  1. Definitely one of the biggest reason we're so far behind SBU. But Hitchcock is also a huge reason. We got the same amount of money SBU did I'm the early 2000s. She decided it was better spent on the sculpture studio than on stadium. We'd be in a much different position than we are right now had that not happened. Hey, but at least we're pumping out world renowned sculptures....
  2. I'm not saying the CAA is either, but the AEast needs to make some serious vision changes or we need a new home. The more and more things shake out, the better and better the MAC looks for a long term target. That's more than likely where Stony Brook will end up.
  3. The AEast is not the answer guys. UVM, Bing, UMass Lowell are not our peer schools. The AEast was designed as a conglomerate of small Northeastern state schools that wanted a minimal investment in DI athletics. We are not a small school and our enrollment and committment to athletics is already outgrowing the league.
  4. How about a new league Albany SBU James Madison UNH Maine William and Mary Delaware Elon Furman Wofford
  5. If those are the only choices, I'd say I'd rather be in a league with a TV deal and Stony Brook.
  6. It is great to see a President that gets it. Pretty much all of our recent Presidents have gotten it (except Hitchcock, IMO). The problem has been none of them except Philip actually executed (for one reason or another). Hopefully Jones executes!
  7. All right except that Richmand's stadium only seats 8,500. One of the smaller stadiums in the CAA. James Madison and Delaware both have 20,000+ seat stadiums though. So the point is valid.
  8. The other factor, and it's one of those things you don't realize until you leave, but the Capital District is one of the best places in the country to raise a family. Property values are reasonable as are taxes (for NY). Schools are great and $275k a year with a state pension and benefits goes a very very long way.
  9. I believe it's the same money. It appears to be a reappropriation of money that was previously given. Right around $5m.
  10. Lighting isn't wasting any time. Light poles are being laid out today. How nice is it going to be to have the light poles actually behind where the fans sit! What a novel concept. The drilling rig is still in the South endzone. I assume they'll also drill out and pour the footings for the scoreboard.
  11. I've been trying to find the specific items we asked for in the capital budget but haven't had any luck. SBU has specific line items for things like "Stadium expansion", which we already knew about.
  12. If feels like the TU is jamming the "University at Albany" in there as much as possible. Maybe they've seen the light to some extent? Either way, its pretty cool to see UA (for now at least) enter into an agreement with a country. Not a company - a country. Yup.....any other SUNY's doing that?
  13. FYI - there is also a "Fans of Albany" bracket with 161 entries so far. http://tournament.fantasysports.yahoo.com/t1/group/203
  14. I wouldn't have any issue with that at all, except we'd again be in a conference without football. But if there was a choice, I'd obviously rather see us in the A10/CAA Football then in the AEast/CAA Football What are the chances of that happening though? Probably slim-to-none at this point.
  15. The only thing I want is ideally to be in an all-sports league with like-minded instituations that sponsor football. Mixing football and non-football schools creates competing interests that has held the America East back, IMO. Schools with football have different economic issues to deal with and different priorities than schools without football. The CAA gets one step closer to that, but still not entirely there since the CAA Football conference is a separate entity and the CAA all sports conference has football and non-football schools.
  16. In my opinion, if we're $1m from being able to go FBS, then we don't have enough money to go FBS. $1m is one guarantee game as a 1st year FBS team at an LSU or Alabama.
  17. I'm not sure how this could impact us, but I think it may in the long run... Butler, Xavier and Creighton have agreed to join the Catholic 7 in the new Big East. I could definitely foresee the CAA losing another team (George Mason) to the A10 and perhaps the Socon as well (Davidson). That may open up a full membership in the CAA. Its certainly not as appealing as before, but either is the AEast with the addition of non-football UMass Lowell.
  18. Does anyone actually think the MAAC is a step up for Brown? What are the salaries like?
  19. Sponsorship and registration information available at http://ualbanyfootballalumni.org/events.aspx
  20. Why cant it be UAlbany's mission has outgrown the other SUNY centers because of its nano college?
  21. That is probably the most reasoned TU editorial I've ever read regarding UAlbany. The question of who benefits from a split off is the biggest one that I cannot wrap my head around. I really don't know what anyone gains from taking Nano out fom "under" UA when its already 90% out. Is there some stigma with being associated with UAlbany in the Nano world that we don't know about?
  22. Yes. Done deal. Sept. 21 is the Hall of Fame game. Oct. 21st is homecoming.
  23. I understand the Duquesne game was the catalyse of needing to be on the road the first two weeks to build cushion for last minute stadium issues. I'm glad we're at least playing someone we can beat on the road in both of those games. My early prediction: 2013 FOOTBALL SCHEDULE W- Aug. 31 @ Duquesne W - Sept. 7 @ Colgate W - Sept. 14 vs. Rhode Island* (Fireworks by SEFCU) W - Sept. 21 vs. CCSU (Hall of Fame Game) L - Sept. 28 @ Old Dominion L - Oct. 5 @ James Madison* W - Oct. 12 @ Delaware* W - Oct. 19 vs. Towson* (Homecoming) Oct. 26 BYE L - Nov. 2 @ Richmond* W - Nov. 9 vs. Maine* L - Nov. 16 vs. UNH* L - Nov. 23 @ Stony Brook* 7-5. The game at Stony Brook will determine our playoff fate. Win and get to 8 wins and at-large. Lose and stay home.
  24. BTW - don't forget that Kalyeros reports directly to Zimpher now anyway.
