  1. It doesn't matter pre season we want him there post season. Jamar is still seen as a good player on a bad team. He'll have to prove himself all over again which I feel he will - from what I hear he's 10-15lbs stronger and that means trouble for all those defenders who try to muscle him as they did last season. Hopefully Iati will cause problems for teams and Levi and Martin create space for Jamar. Jamar will also have to kick more to the open shooters. He may start the season trying to do too much. He'll have to be patient and his points will come.
  2. Ruler & UAalum72 thanks for your incites. It help keep me updated with our football program. I'm a FB supporter but more a Basketball enthusiast, therefore your input is greatly appreciated.
  3. to get on this board and talk about Saturdays game or next weeks game. Look at the list of postings from last week and its like we don't have a good football team. The board is so quiet you might believe we don't play football. If we don't have atleast 10 diehard fans how do you think you can get 1,000s in the stands or at least 100 at a Football Luncheon. Lets go Football people lets talk football and develop some interest and support!!!! Go Danes!!!!!
  4. UA has to walk before it starts to run. A couple of winning seasons in Hoop and The Danes may be ready for a move to the A10. UA has a broad based athletic program and FB is ready to go all scholarship, a move may be in the near future but I don't see anything until probably after the 05/06 season. By that time we will be on firm footing in Hoop and know what direction we're going in Football, the 2 sports that pull the athletic wagon. Siena has a great hoop program and does a nice job attendence wise but with that said Saints/Danes game outdrew every Saints/ MAAC home game. If UA stays in the AE they won't draw larger fan support than Siena until they are in a better conference.
  5. Brian Pfohl 6'8" - 4 man with good offensive moves around the basket. Suppose to be a pretty tough kid out of Atlanta, Ga. I heard Coach Brown really likes him. Rivals.com thinks he may have the possibility of growing a few more inches. I don't know why or how they stated that but it was is his profile.
  6. rdjc - Starting atleast by 04/05 there will be no reason for UA ever to be over 220 again either - that's saying alot since its never ended a season under 300. I think with this recruiting class and the 2 transfers already sitting out we are upward mobile and looking to hit the 100s.
  7. The professor was about 6 days premature but was right on that the 2 kids from Iowa would commit. This make 3 early solid signees for the Danes - Bauman is a 6'2" 1/2 Combo guard, Lillis is a 6'5" Wing player a 2/3 who has the ability to handle a little at the 1 and 6'8" Wilson who will be a 4 who can face up to the basket and be very effective, especially with "Das Big Man" inside. One more scholarship left should be interesting if Pfohl from Ga. commits early or will Brown wait to see if he can get another 6'8"+ kid later or maybe a quality transfer later in the year. We can probably afford to have someone sit out a year now that we will have some depth.
  8. A TEAM BY THEMSELVES 7'1" 270lbs - Kirsten Zoellner - Center - Huge presence in the middle 6'2" 215lbs - Lucious Jordan - Combo guard - powerful penetrator 6'2" 175lbs - David Bauman - Combo Guard - PG abilities & Great shooter 6'5" 200lbs - Brian Lillis - Wing Player - very skilled - good hops - fine shooter 6'8" 215lbs - Brent Wilson - Power Forward - very skilled - willing to get dirty 6'8"+ - PF/C TBA - ???????? This recruiting group by itself is more talented than any UA team ever. I think we will finally be a bonafide DI Team. "Great Danes" Basketball is starting to get interesting. I also expect this years team to be better than last years - a little more size, a little more depth, more offense at the point and hopefully Jamar and Levi are a year older and wiser.
  9. GreatDanes84 - the Early signing period is the 2nd week of November. I believe it starts NOv. 12th or within a few days of that.
  10. Lillis 6'5" 200lbs - Hoopmasters.com says he is probably one of the best shooters in Iowa. He has the ability to take it down the lane and slam it home. Very intelligent and skilled player a combo guard who could play some 3. Rivals rates him 2 stars, they report he was offered by Drake and had high interest from New Mexico, Creighton and Northwestern. Played on the same AAU team as Brent Wilson which finished second at the AAU Nationals in Fla. Wilson and Lillis are very skilled as is Bauman all three are excellent students. This is a tremendous early signing group. Next years team will be very deep and competitive with Jordan and Zoellner sitting out this year.
  11. Brent Wilson should have an immediate impact at the 4 especially with "Das Big Man" in the middle. He's a legit 6'8" who isn't afraid to bang, he has a big wing span which helps his rebounding and defense and he is very "SKILLED" and can step out and shoot it. Lillis is another very "SKILLED" player can shoot the 3 very well and can slam it going down the middle. Lillis played on a banged up knee part of the summer and that detracted from his recruiting and was a big break for us. Both played at a very high level of AAU. There team took second at the Nationals in Fla. Both are outstanding students!!! The coaching staff has done a great job signing 3 legitimate good ones during the early signing period. It looks like our 4th scholarship will go to a 6'8"+ type player. The 04/05 edition should be very good and for the first time very deep.
  12. rdjc - your opinion is appreciated but just remember that it's still YOUR opinion. There is no true answer unless the teams all played each other. Remember the 3 SUNY schools will all improve(in a short time) due to there commitment and that will jump the AE RPI ratings. Can the same be said about the 200+RPI MAAC Teams what's there excuse?
  13. Dane Pound you are absolutely correct the bomber is a professor hater - having a decent conversation with him is impossible. The professor/czar or whatever does have the ability to irritate alot of people. I find him both funny and inciteful but irrational at times.
  14. David Bauman may stink or be DII in your opinion stink but I think you're just "PI___D" at the prof., David Bauman is a nice kid and a good student who is going to fill a role in the UA Hoops program. "Most people in the business of knowing such things" think that Bauman is a solid get for UA and the AE. With the 3 pt line moving back and "Das Big Man coming in there very well could be a role for an outstanding shooter and "IF" you have ever seen him play you would have to admit he can flat out shoot. I guess Holy Cross, BU and UNH who all showede sincere interest are now DII.
  15. If you insist on comparing the MAAC and the AE the only thing I feel should be considered is that the SUNY schools ( new to DI) seemingly have a greater desire and commitment to improve - more so than the Loyola and Rider types. With NU ready for a break out year and VT and BU already very solid programs I believe the AE has more potential to improve than does the MAAC. There is more potential for the AE (in conference) to be much more competitive top to bottom than the MAAC which has always been pretty top heavy.
  16. I am not getting too hyped - the UA staff over the last year and a half have been in the hunt for some really strong MId Major Talent - but do to the history of UA DI Hoop there is no real magneticism to The Danes and they finish up placing second in the recruiting race and only first place counts. I'll getted hyped when we get solid verbals and then signed LOI in November. If we get the 2 kids from Iowa and the forward from Georgia it will be a big sign that people realize the coaching staff is building something good at UA. If we get those kids signed recruiting will be even better in the future and the Danes will be a perrennial solid competitor in the AE.
  17. professor - I can't confirm but I do know that UA is heavily involved with 2 kids from Iowa and the coaching staff would be very happy if they got the pair. They are 2 of the staff's top 3 choices. Keep your fingers crossed.
  18. professor - copy the article and paste it. I have plenty of subscriptions but not to prepstars.com. If you can't copy let us know the wording of the article. I heard the kid visiting now is a very good shooter but I also her Bauman was a better shooter then this kid . Fill us in.
  19. Dane Pound - for some reason I thought Brown was signed for 3 years with an option for a 4th year. If I am correct this is his second year - announce that the school is happy with him extend his contract into that 4th year and when Brown is out recruiting and the question is asked "Coach will you be around for my son's 4 years at UA"? Brown can say - "they just gave me an extension and I see no reason that I won't be around". You know when recruiting other people from other schools will be whispering some others rumors in recruits ears.
  20. In my conversation with people "in the know" about Hoops I heard the kid from Iowa visiting today is suppose to be one of the better shooters if not the best shooter in Iowa this season and I heard Bauman is a better shooter than him. Bauman must be a sick shooter. If "Das Big Man" is an impact player we'll have some snipers to protect him because besides the 2 mention Iati is suppose to be a great shooter with unlimited range.
  21. To be honest if the seven footer pans out as a good player it will help recruiting tremendously, if we are a consistent winner starting in 04/05, and if Coach Brown stays - which is highly likely his wife is from the area. The Danes in less then 5 years will be considered a "Solid" Mid Major(able to compete with some mid to low Big East and ACC schools and making a push upwards looking to be a "Gonzaga of the East"). And if the Siena/Albany series is still on the Pepsi will be sold out annually for that game and you'll have 3-5K at all home games. A lot of "ifs" but I believe all possible. This may all be a pipe dream but I truly feel this is the direction the program is headed. It would also be smart to probably extend Coach Brown's contract to give him a feeling of security. He has done an outstanding job reorganizing the program in a year and a half after - it was left in shambles by the previous administration.
  22. I signed up a while ago and I've recieved 3 or 4 newsletters so for. They're nice and the keep you up on whats going on in athletics at UA. Results, upcoming games, Danes Club, special events etc. I think it's a good additon by the Athletic Department and I'm down on them alot of the time.
  23. SienaTony - I really don't know about what share UA gets from the tickets they sell - but I agree with you that when UA becomes a very competitive club the Pepsi will sell out and at that time UA should get a solid piece of the action and by no means do I think it should be as high as 50/50. It is and would be even a greater game for the community if the Pepsi sold out. If UA becomes competitve selling out the Pepsi would be automatic - Siena Fans already do their part.
  24. The only problem I see is the UA Athletic Department will someday want a piece of the action. Somewhere along the line I'm sure UA will ask for some profit sharing!!!!!! Only my opinion.
  25. What a tremendous catch it would be if the Danes could get commitments from both Wilson and his 6'5" teammate. Wilson would be a fine get for the AE and his AAU teammate is said to be athletic and probably the best shooter in the SR. Class in all of Iowa.
