What's the deal with calling anything Lady? It just sounds stupid.

You wouldn't call an actual female Great Dane a lady ...

Lady Danes is almost as bad as Minutewomen or Orangewomen. You wouldn't say Siena Lady Saints, Buffalo Cows or Maine Black LadyBears. Union Dutchwomen? Lady Engineers?

STOP THE MADNESS

I checked their athletics page and $iena seems to use only 'Saints' in their stories, though the T-U may still use L-S.

Not derogatory but vaguely condescending, as if a predominantly women's college up north distinguished the women as Thoroughbreds from the Gentlemen Thoroughbreds.

I suspect Statefan brought this up just to start trouble. ;)

Not that we should be taking our example from Siena but they do use "lady saints" in some of their press releases. Of course they could just be backward and vaguely condecending as we know.

I would guess fans who follow women's athletics enough to talk about them should be given some break in the terms they use. After all, would you rather have someone go to women's basketball games, listen to them on the radio and call them the "Lady Danes" or have someone who uses the "correct" terminology and doesn't follow or support them at all.
