Fun at the game tonight.

I'm a new member here but just wanted to post that I went to the alumni event prior to the game and to the game at CCSU. It was really fun and a good group of Danes fans there. I thought the team played very well against a good CCSU team except for out the first 8-10 minutes after the half where they were allowing way too many backdoor layups and got called for 4 charges in that span. A couple of the charges were VERY questionable but what can you do. During that time the lead dwindled. Without that span of poor play they would've won easily. It was good to meet and chat with a few other alumni. It was a short drive for me to the game but I'm hoping to make it to a few home games.

For those that were at the game, I was the idiot who fell down the last few steps of the stands and onto the wood floor just before halftime. Even though it was quite embarrassing I found it funny and think I recovered well.

Now I regret trying to beat the bathroom line by standing near the gynasium doors with a couple seconds left in the half....I missed the real action.

Great atmosphere.

Good times.

Good results.

Got caught in traffic so I missed the Varsity Club event. Sounds like it went well from all that I heard.

Certainly not a thing of beauty but it was a win. A couple of things that lept out at me:

Iati rocks. He's been relegated to more of a three point specialist the last few years but showed more of his offense tonight and as always his toughness.

Lillis seemed to try and do a little too much on the offensive end. I don't blame him because we did seem to have trouble scoring. Hastings as well although he plays defense like he's been insulted. CCSU radio announcers were saying after the game that it would have been a different game if Blackwood would have had a better shooting night. I think Hastings had a lot to do with how his night went. Not sure if it came over on the radio but he made one play where he and a CCSU player were both going out of bounds and Hastings drilled him with the ball to keep possesion. Annoyed the crowd but was quite a play.

Ambrose - 11 pts, 5 rebounds, a steal and an assist in 12 minutes of playing time. Can't wait to see more of him and Martin in the future.

Our free throw defense, particularly in overtime, was terrific.

It's great to see that even though this team obviously hasn't jelled on the court they can still win games on the road.

GD06 if you didn't like the officiating in the Bucknell game you would have freaked out tonight. I swear CCSU was trying to foul Reid Anderson at the end of OT and they called him for traveling after he got knocked down. It reminded me of the game at Harvard last year. We were up a couple of points and it seemed like the officials were going to go out of their way to give Harvard a couple of more shots at the hoop.

As I said in another thread, I wasn't at the game tonight, but from the sounds of it (based on numbers alone if nothing else), Ambrose can be just plain sick (meaning good!) out there: 11 pts, 5 rebounds, a steal and an assist in 12 minutes ... wow.

Ambrose seems to have a complete game to go along with the athleticism. Fun night - thanks to the alum association for the food and drinks! Car pooling is cool, just watch out for mean Conn. ladies who want to run you down.

I can't wait to see what Ambrose does against the team that doesn't play defense.

I also was impressed with Ambrose in the short time that he played. He plays with a lot of energy and quickness. On one play they faked a pass to him at the three point line which brought the defender out a little. Ambrose cut towards the basket, got a nice bounce pass on the way and I thought he was just going to have enough time to do a layup. Instead he exploded to the basket and went up for a nice two handed dunk. Impressive!

I was also impressed with Josh Martin and Hastings on defense. Both are high energy guys and run around screens well and always seemed to have a hand in the opposing players face. Lillis did seem to force some things on offense but I don't fault him for being aggressive against a tough defense. He had some nice drives to the hoop and got called several times for charging, which were questionable calls all night. Albany was called for 21 fouls in the game. Brent Wilson had a nice game stat wise but you could see the rust from not having played much during the offseason and preseason. Hopefully he will come around and be as good or better than last year. Turley looked like he has some nice low post moves but is definitely raw and huge.

I also loved the play by Hastings slamming the ball on the CCSU player out of bounds. At first I thought it was a little much but when things are happening that fast I can't fault him for firing the ball at the guy like that.

Those were some of my observations. As I said, I had a great time and look forward to getting to a few game sup in Albany. From where I live it takes about 2 hours to get to the school so that's not too bad.

I think maybe I should change my ID on the site to FallGuy because that is how I will be remembered by the people who saw my great fall. :)
