Konstanty continues climb

Oneonta High School graduate Mike Konstanty continues his climb through the Cincinnati Reds' organization.

Konstanty, a University at Albany graduate in his first full season of pro ball, is playing with Single-A Dayton of the Midwest League. He's played six games with the Dragons and is hitting .316 with two home runs and six RBIs.

After spending the first month and a half of the season at Reds' extended spring training, Konstanty joined Sarasota of the high-Class A Florida State League. He played five games there, going 1-for-15 before being sent to Dayton.

Konstanty was the Reds' 39th-round draft pick after graduating from Albany. He played 52 games at Billings of the Pioneer League in Rookie Ball. He hit .253 with 10 home runs and 43 RBIs in 52 games in Billings. He had a 10-game hitting streak at one point and also hit the first home run at Billings' Dehler Park, which opened last season.

Thanks for the update.

I have been meaning to get back to Dayton for a game, but they were not home when I was in the area (Cincinnati and Columbus) in May. They are also one of the toughest tickets in all of the minor leagues, so Mike should enjoy playing in front of large crowds for a while.

BTW, for anyone who wants to track the progress of any player one of the best sites is www.milb.com

Oneonta High graduate Mike Konstanty's numbers have tailed off considerably in his second professional baseball season.

Konstanty, a first baseman, is hitting .210 with three home runs and 20 RBIs for the Class A Dayton Dragons. He has more strikeouts (45) than hits (29) and the 6-foot-4, 225-pounder has eight extra-base hits in 138 at-bats.

Drafted in the 39th round by the Cincinnati Reds in the 2008 First-Year Player Draft, Konstanty hit .253 with 10 home runs for the rookie league Billings Mustangs last summer.

Konstanty, 23, played his final two college seasons for the University at Albany, hitting a school-record 13 homers in his senior year. Before that, Konstanty played two seasons for Winthrop.
