It's a good job, but not sure I would leave Albany for it. I guess it depends on compensation, family preference etc. A10 is a big jump, but in my opinion, it's a big gamble to go to a much improved conference, where the team is in the cellar, and hope to win in a fairly quick timetable. Otherwise, you could be starting from scratch again a few years later. Leaving Albany with 3 in a row, and then Cremo coming in next year would be a hard sell, IMO.

Could never blame anyone for taking a pay increase or pursuing dream at a higher level. Question is, UA is really improving on all levels. If you look at our Athletics department as a whole, excluding football (big exclusion), how many schools have improved as dramatically as we have over the last 9-10 years, considering MBB, WBB, LAX, Softball, Baseball, Volleyball etc.?

Just in terms of MBB, WBB, LAX, there's gotta be a few ACC teams that have had more success than us. Outside of that, we're establishing a really great footprint and blueprint for the future.

Anyone watch the few interviews with him last week. He said he has had 2-3 offers through his career but "happy wife happy life" and that Jamie has 30+ family members around here. He said Albany is his baby...etc. I'll have to see if I can find that interview... I think that was TWC... I think.

There is this interview..which isn't the one I was thinking of..but its also a good one:

Steve Dagostino sat down one-on-one with head coach Will Brown as the UAlbany men's basketball team gets...

The longer he stays the harder it's going to be for him to leave. Fact of the matter is that this program is his baby, he grew it from it's infancy in D1. Not sure what it's going to take to move him but I doubt GMU is that job. Guy has an excellent team coming back again next year...gonna be pushing 20 wins again if the key players stay and are healthy.

At the Across the Street Pub Will talked about Doc Sauers and how he is still on campus all the time working out, etc... and I said, "hopefully you can build the same legacy." His response, "I hope so!"

It will take $900k-$1m per year for 5 years for him to leave. That is what I think it will take for him and his family to leave. Can't turn that down.

Does GMU have that kind of money?

Listen, someone comes at him and throws P-5 money at him...he'd be stupid not to listen.

Sometimes it's not all about money.

With the other stated reasons, and with this university's athletic department significantly growing and improving, I wouldn't imagine why he'd leave.

If someone give you 5mil over five years and it will take you 12 or 13 years at Albany to make that...you have to think about it.

$5mil to leave on table. That would be very silly. He can end up being a bottom feeder for 5 years, but financially be set for life in just five years.

BTW, it's remarkable how he's turned this program around and has hit new heights after a few really down years and being unable to capitalize off that back to back run. I vaguely remember that 7 win season...horror show.

So true! And to realize and admit to their mistakes in recruiting after the first two tourney victories took a lot of guts and smarts. Coach and the staff learned from that first experience and went back to what got them to those first two and it worked again! This time for a THREE-PETE! :)
