The only thing I've seen about Jones and the draft are the links Reeder posted a few weeks ago. They are in the thread titled "Gary Jones."

On a side note, there was an interview with McElroy on the halftime of the UMBC game. From what I caught of it sounded like the rules involving I-AA scholarships may change. My understanding is that in a few year the full ride of scholarships may go from 63(?) now down into the 40s somewhere which McElroy said was doable. I forget his exact statement but it was pretty clear the move up was imminent.

I've seen some discussion of cutting scholarships from 63 to 50 or 45, but nothing concrete, wouldn't happen for 4 or 5 years (the excess would probably have to be phased out). The top teams may not want to increase the separation from I-A. But yes, that would make it easier for us to move to the top level of I-AA.

As it stands now, you can offer less than the minimum number of scholarships ... not a great way to be competitive at that top level, but that rules change wouldn't be necessarily the only reason we could move up ... I think it would just make it possible to get competitive faster. Many schools already do not offer the full compliment of scholarships. It's not like I-A, where there is a strict minimum required for participation.

My bad....combine is MARCH 4, 2003. Good call Ruler. I guess everyone thought it happened w/ the Clarett news. LIKE ANYONE CARES ABOUT CLARETT ANYMORE....can you say JOHNNY LAM JONES?

I think Gary will definately play in the CFL, w/ an outside shot at the NFL. Either way, our second pro in Football (Gemelin was in SD's camp and made a CFL squad for a short time (also Arena I believe). Actually, including the AFL, UA has had a few pros.

A LB # 55...can't remeber his name but was tough as hell. He was a HVCC transfer. 2 Year starter and Simpson loved this kid. He was with Albany's arena team for 2 years as there also was an O- Lineman name I believe Van Jura...big physical kid from Jersey...good football player also played for Albany's arena team.

Way back in my day John Donnalley(83-86) a WR from Long Island was in the Jet camp and made it to play in one exhibition game, then got cut. Scott Dimetrinko one of our LB's who transferred in from New Hampshire made the Pittsburgh Galdiators in 86 and was signed by Donald Trump for the N.J. Generals(not sure when...but he made the Generals)...same time as LT was before the Giants got him back. I believe Scott played one season as a General. He now owns a huge gym in Florida.
