Going into the new stadium and conference...

- Does anyone have a read on which way our recruiting is trending? Are we building up the depth and talent, what can we expect going into next year and beyond from a talent standpoint?

- Are we ramping up scholarships starting next year, what rate?

- You would have to think with Romain coming back after a year off plush Osbourne we are OK at the RB, Fiachi should be improved, WR's are still solid with King and Chillis coming back. We are losing a ton on defense though with the departure of Morgan, Plungas and Bakou. On offense losing a few key contributors in Kirchner, Smith and Booker.

Can we compete next year in the CAA?

We can compete, but I expect a 6-6 or 5-7 season. It's a 12 game year.

I believe we are adding a full scholarship class next year to get to 50ish scholarships.

That will add depth and we might get some Juco transfers.

We need to stock up on defense.

Rule book only says "Each year, a Football Bowl Subdivision institution may count one victory against a Football Championship Subdivision opponen ... provided the opponent has averaged 90 percent of the permissible maximum number of grants-in-aid per year in football during a rolling two-year period.

(Adopted: 10/28/97 effective 8/1/98, Revised: 4/28/05, 12/15/06, 4/29/10 effective 8/1/10, 7/30/10)

90% of 63 = 56.7

Doesn't specify 'previous two years' so I guess it's up to the lawyers. Probably what you said, but just wondering if that's definitive.

Hmm. Not sure.

I guess we'll see.

Bigger question than Romain......is Coach Ford coming back?

To show that nobody's immune, 73-year-old Jerry Moore is not having his contract renewed after 24 years at Appalachian State (though it was decided last year).

Amazing. 3 National championships and 25,000k avg attendance and they still forced him into retirement.

Getting more clear that they're on the brink of a Sun Belt invite and he didn't agree with a move to FBS.

  • 5 weeks later...
James Allen's column says Ryan Griffin of Shaker HS has chosen UAlbany. He was T-U All-Area first team as a LB in 2011 and as RB in 2012. Chose us over Wagner, Sacred Heart, and Marist because we offered him a choice of positions. Doesn't say if he's rated, or if he even had interest from higher-level programs.
