  1. What I meant about Q and Johnson not being walk-ons, is that they are "creative walk-ons". I would gather that both of these kids are attending Albany for free...just as a part of the Educational Opportunity Program. These kids are good enough to have schollys.
  2. I would have to think that Fordie has something up his sleeve for the QB position. Forget the OOC, without better play from the QB position this year, expect 8 in the box all year....which could proove to be ugly for us. Delgado is terrible! JUCO is the way to go on this.
  3. Oh...and as for Levine getting into it...yeah he did...and yeah Brown sat him...but honestly....we all would have reacted the same way...and I credit Levi for "leading" by not backing down. NU is pretty dirty....plain and simple...though Barea was pretty much tame today.
  4. 300...tops. Patchy...why didnt you respond that you were going???? Iati and Johnson played great. Iati locked down Barea pretty good...dont let the numbers deceive you....though credit Barea for his FT. TO's...they killed us. Though Wyatt was in foul trouble...he played well when out there. Martin had a terrific first half...much better than the last time I saw him. Knotts....the new enigma. BTW...we need to cut out this walk-on stuff. Hillaire is very talented!!!! Levine...another tough night, yet somehow got double figures. Was never really a factor. What makes this kid the first true leader since Cetnar....his ability to play hard all the time...and his ability to keep his head in the game. This has been his biggest turnaround from last season. Patch....what did you think of NU's arena...i mean high school...I mean Junior High gym. Very clean...but a joke.
  5. We will be more than fine in the backfield. The guys we got are as big, but faster than Jones. They may end up to be as talented if not better by the time they are done. QB....we need one bad...ours suck. The line....remember...KImball is stepping in to replace LaRoche....TE...we will be fine...we always have good TE's.
  6. Nice to see UA keep not only talented...but smart kids home! Is our school a line factory or what? (not NFL caliber for all those non-fans) Good job on the scoop Statefan!!!
  7. Any of you fellow dogs braving the cold to come out to blustery Boston this weekend? I personally can't wait to harrass that punk Barea. I heard him speak during an interview a few nites ago....what a piece of work this kid is. Let me know if any of you guys are coming in!!! Any chance of a possible upset? Any chance Barea is suspended for this game?
  8. Hey DP...great job with the pics. Curious though...where did you get the tiunnel (football) pic and the RACC pic. I would love to get a copy of the RACC one if you could forward it to my email. I would like to use it as a desktop background! Great job!
  9. I really believe the Hughes experiment must end. There is no doubt that grades are back already. They know if he is or isn't qualified. I may be mistaken (I was not at the game) but I do not believe he dressed. If he is out of shape...fine...but he needs to be on the bench. While I know we can't use his scholly this year because of the 5/8 rule, I really don't understand how he can be a member of this team. I feel for the kid because of what happened, but scholarships are renewable. That 11k could be used for recruiting, given to football, track, etc. The only reason I still think he is around is because Brown is such a class act. While Huges has 3 years of eligibility, maybe Brown is thinking that he will release him after next year (we dont have to give him all three) and that will free up a scholly...but let the kid get an education. With the guys coming in next year (Dyson, Wilson) and Zoellner, there would seem to be less of a need for him if he can't get into the system this year. I really think Brown must like this kid alot from a non-hoop standpoint, since he allows this to drag on. Bottom line...the staff needs to come clean on this situation...either the kid is done or he is not. They shouldn't keep what little fan interest and hope we have waiting on whether or not this kid will suit up. Closure, either way (i.e. he is never coming back, done for the season and will be here next year, or is back in a week) is necessary! Just my two cents.
  10. Statefan...I watched that game also (listened to UA on the web). Not only is Jamar shown stealing the ball...but he slams it home. I am almost positive it was from the BU-UA game at BU last year. I was a little disappointed in the Rashad Bell half-time, look at the teams. When they got to UA all that was said was "They are are young and compiling talent...like LEVI LEVINE." Granted Jamar is out...but zero mention of Jamar or IATI (odd considering his ROY's). I was disappointed that we got worked over a bit. The game looked great on TV....Maine had a nice crowd. The Flavin kid is terrible for them....7'1 coming off the bench?! Marcarchuck was his old self---an ass!
  11. Umass just beat Maine 67-60. Anderson had an off nite, but Freeman was dominating. Martin (if he starts) needs to play well this game. Starting lineup is 6-9, 6-9. 6-6, 6-5, 5-11. Martin will not have a real height advantage. I would assume a Pipikus, Hillaire, Levine, Martin, IATI starting 5. I think Hillaire will end up on Rashaun because of his athtleticsm. Wyatt needs to put the wood to Rashaun. Interesting that we are undefeated against UMASS.....but those games were in 1918 and 1919. One score...19-18 UA at Page Hall. http://umassathletics.ocsn.com/sports/m-ba.../122303aab.html
  12. That is funny. I went to that site a few minutes before you posted (I dont know what to do with myself now that finals are over). I found it comical how they were ripping Lanier and going nuts about how Tommy Mitchell was the second coming. My first thought on the Siena coaching....would a higher salary, no relocation, better conference sway Brown into the job if they ever fired Lanier. Then I woke up from the fog and said...#$#% SIENA...Brown would never do that! I cannot wait for next year...but I really cant wait for 2 seasons from now. They will want some coaches head on their XMAS platter when we stick it to them finally. SANTA is going to drop some coal in the Siena stockings this year. How awesome would it be for the "other" team to go 6-22.
  13. Great Points. I think Hillaire Knotts may need to come off the bench. It may make him calm down more, yet be aggresive if that makes any sense.
  14. Games like this propel a team. They can believe now. I said it in another thread...who would have thought Janis could become a 8 and 5 type of guy. That is more than anyone expected. The good thing....he is doing it with limited shots...making them count. Wyatt....if he only could get 7 boards and 5 pts a nite I would be very happy. The only bad thing about this win is that we have a tough game Sunday. I hope we can stay close (Freeman is a beast) and Iati can shut down Anderson. Anderson is flat out nasty....all in attendance will get a treat watching the kid ball. Good win fellas! Oh DanePound, Delaware Valley plays DIII ball in the MAC (Middle Atlantic- Kings, Scranton, etc.)
  15. Who would have thought.....Janis a 8 and 5 guy! Did anyone ask for a "Enforcer" for Xmas. Wyatt's new name should be the "ENIGMA." 9 boards tonite. Knotts needs to knock down more than 23% (guestimation) of his shots...but at least he took them.
  16. I usually back off when I know I am right and someon is wrong...but Professor, I will take the final bait. L-E-T U-S- P-L-A-Y hooked on phonics. I will see how smart you are. Go to the Sacred Heart site. Click on Samuels name. Read his bio. See that he is a G-U-A-R-D. That spells guard. Then let us look at the game notes. Hmmm....Pipikus, Hillaire, Levine, Martin, Iati. Hmmmm...that is one center, 3 forwards (dont you dare say Levine played guard because you flat out said earlier that he wasnt quick enough) and one guard. So, Martin, Iati, Levine were plahying against....are you ready Prof....3 G-U-A-R-D-S! I will apologize to Patch for my low blow about his skills/coaching. However, Patchy, it was in response to your attacking my knowledge. Pissing contest aside...you know your stuff generally. My whole point was that you always preach about us needing to give the team and players some time...and next year we will be better. I agree. I was just pointing out that 6 games do not make a career and Martins performance cannot be judged when guarding a much smaller quicker player. Hey bottom line...he cant guard a DI guard. Brown learned it. That is all my friend. As for you Prof....LOL...I only played 1 year because of injuries (red-shirted the other). My numbers were about as bad as they get. Doesnt mean I dont know the game. It means my dad should have layed off the college booze...screwed up the genetics! All good Patch?
  17. Downtown...I agree with you 100%. My point was that Patch constantly placates and then retracts. The kid was mismatched...and couldnt handle it. I agree...pull him...brown did that. But if you judge him on 6 games...well that is wrong. Lots of guys suck early on, though I think you are right, Martin needs to realize this is his best chance to get minutes for next year. As for Patch and his coaching...well...I wont get into it. The flex offense is long gone my man.
  18. Professor you crack me up. Samuels is a third guard. And he was All-NEC ROOKIE. Yeah...he plays the three...but he is a guard! Go check out the SHU website. I forgot...you are all-knowing. Yes, players miss assignments...but he didnt miss three or four in a row...he was always around the ball and bottom line...he wasnt quick enough for a 6'4 180 guard. But...that isnt an implication that his game sucks. That was my point...and it was the opposite of the point Patch was making...that the kid just isnt getting it done. He was mismatched...plain and simple. And another thing. If you asked Levi to lock down samuels...he would have. But bottom line...Samuels didnt tear up Martin...he tore up UA. And as for him getting it going early versus Martin (as the reason he tore it up), Samuels didnt score from 17:11 till 12:04....that isn't exactly being on fire because of one guy. His next bucket game at 1 minute. So, once again my point that Professor and Patch refuse to accept is this: MARTIN WAS OUTMATCHED AGAINST A GUARD. MARTIN IS NOT A DI GUARD. The better matchup would have been Levi. With Pipikus taking care of business down low UA could afford to put a lineup that was quicker and smaller out there. Martin got pulled because others were doing well. And finally...you dont judge a freshman after 6 games...I think Professor said that a bit back. And yes Professor...I was one of the 600 plus who watched the game! Now why don't you two go exhale and pick on Hillaire for not being consistant of late (that was sarcasm for the two of you).
  19. Professor you are 100% correct! Brown has more patience than any coach I have seen for a long while!
  20. Patch...you're posts are Jekyl and Hyde. You will rip someone but say they are young. You will say you dont know much but "someone who knows" told you. You will be rah-rah then a coach. Listen as for basketball IQ I think it is fair to say I know a little more than you. I was always the "poor man's everything" because of my size...so I listened and learned. I think you are a very good poster but at times you go off the deep end...like we all do. I was at the game, I know hoops and Martin sat for two reasons...JOHNSON and PIPKUS. He was not needed down low and, as you stated, there was no need for him at two because BROWN IS SMART saw a mismatch with footspeed and put Johnson on the floor. So, unless you talked to Brown or watched tape you wouldnt understand what went on on that court. And another thing....one great thing about Brown is he speaks very candidly. If he had a problem with Martin's assignments you are damn well sure it would have been heard on the post-game (which it wasnt) or in the paper. I highly doubt he or the staff opened there mouth to someone outside the program if he was that frustrated with Martin's game knowing how fragile this team is right now. Brown has flat out said that he thinks Martin has ability but he needs to hit the weight room. That is something that can happen in the offseason (cf. Jamar and Levi). And it takes longer for Big Men to develop (especially low-major) than a guard who may make a lot of turnovers but generally can play against other guards in a quicker time period. As for Martin's unproductiveness...the Kid is 6 months out of high school. As I said...evaluate him at seasons end. Want a list of guys who sucked there first year and then became solid players? Or how about MJ...yes Michael Jordan, the same guy who was CUT from his high school team. Not comparing Martin of course, but I am saying dont judge the kid after 6 games. I think his Siena game is closer (due to the higher skill level of players) of what he can do rather than what he does against LIU and Sacred Heart....but I dont know that until he plays a full-season. Now out of curiousity, who do you think Martin was defending, a chump? The man you speak of, Samuels (the 7 straight points) was an All-NEC Rookie team member who ended up with 19 pts on 50% shooting with 5 boards and 5 assists against us...not a good job by anyone on the team. The other guards, Wellington averaged 13 and 5 coming in the game and Bailey was averaging 17.4 including 27 on B.C. and 15 on UCONN. All three are very fine players with a year of college hoops under there belt. Two are around 6feet and the other, Samuels is 6'4 and lightening quick. That is why Johnson came in. As for me having no clue...once again...strap on the sneakers and play at a level higher than AAU or coach for at least 5 years...then come talk to me!
  21. Danepound...wasn't it awesome to see Janis beg for the ball downlow as opposed to his usual game where he sits up top acting as the middle passer between a guard and LEVI. I was ecstatic with his power moves. I really believe, with no real dominating centers in the league (Butt isnt having a big year), that if Janis can mentally deal with the occasional bad game he will have a big year. He is starting to gain confidence (as seen at the end of the game when he was asking for and getting the ball).
  22. Patch...You are flat out wrong. I was at the game. Martin is guarding quicker, faster and stronger guards than probably half the small forwards he played all year. Talk about a player playing out of position... Those points were scored by a guy he should not have been guarding...PERIOD. And let's talk honest...were you at the game? If you were you would have seen his lack of footspeed to be able to guard a much quicker player than him. Did you also see that he was active all over the place, having his hands on the ball alot? All I am saying is A) Janis and Courtney played big games, thus dispelling the need for Martin to play. If Martin was playing the three he would be posting much better numbers. And I was wondering who you got your info from. The reason I asked that was because while he looked a little misguided at times...so did the rest of the team. Every player, but Levi, was missing their assigments. To point out Martin only is unfair and also misinformed. When you say the kid sits because he was missing assignments...well that better come from the coaching staff or it is misinformed. Either you heard it from the staff or you didnt. He is not great...but not bad at all.
  23. UAlbany Lax has been getting alot of pub lately. Many believe UA will repeat (the incoming class is supposed to be very good). Most think a UMBC win is not out of the realm of possibility. I think many were impressed by our Princeton NCAA game. WMAR in Maryland, is showing the UMBC-UA game live. I wonder if the powers that be would get us on Time Warner. This would be an unbelievable recruiting tool for the local kids who choose between UA and UMBC, UMASS, SBU, Hofstra, etc. http://forums.laxpower.com/read.php?f=1&i=...i=83971&t=83971
  24. Swathmore is terrible. The are academically like Hamilton or Haverford. Preppy liberal arts school. You sure it was Delaware Valley and not Lebanon Valley (a traditionally strong DIII program)?
