They've also added a link for Danes merchandise for the holidays. OTOH the women still have last year's pictures up.

OT- The Big Year for the Great Danes Continues....
UAalum72 replied to Dane96's topic in General Danes Stuff
Congrats. Now, no more excuses for pulling a nutty on someone on these forums at 2 a.m. -
In today's Gazette, Brown says 'With all the players we have back next season, I thinkg I'm going to wait until spring to sign our last recruit. The conference will lose a lot of players, and I think I can afford to wait and see what kind of player we will need for next season. I'm thinking about going after a 6-5 or 6-6 wing player. We have plenty of guards' They got Connelly by recruiting him hard early, and offering the scholly early when he was under everyone's radar.

Cortace Jug and Cortland's Stadium...
UAalum72 replied to GreatDanes06's topic in General Danes Stuff
It looks great, and if we had this we might not be talking about needing a new stadium, but don't get carried away, the Cortland site says it seats 5,000 in the main grandstand, 1,500 visitors, and 1,500 for the auxiliary field. What's amazing is the number of other fields (two running tracks?) the have in the rest of the stadium complex. From what I understand, our new field hockey/lax setup will be similar, on a smaller scale -
Confirms what I heard at the women's exhibition today (won 63-55, Mookie with 19 pts., 19 RBs). Iati missed a 3 at the buzzer that would have taken the lead at the half. Manhattan made all but 1 or 2 free throws, while Albany missed the front end of 5 or 6 1&1s. Zoellner played most of the game and got 16 rebounds. Jamar also played a lot of minutes. It's encouraging if they could handle a press even with Z in the game.

Bernstine - PSU has a I-AA football team, and he believes in making the city say it's 'our university'. DP - I checked the poll results first (null input), and then I'm told I already voted, even though I haven't.

Coach Brown talks about this season
UAalum72 replied to Patch's topic in Winter Sports-Danes Hoops, Track
Quotes from the Gazette: Brown on Zoellner: ‘He adds a dimension ... that we have not had. He has the size and strength to score or get fouled...and he can clog up the middle. We can’t forget about him; he must get touches’. Zoellner:'I haven't played in a long time and I can't wait. I know my job...But I also like to score. If I'm able to score some points early, it should loosen up the defense'. Patterson:’We have all the ingredients you need to be successful’. ‘There aren’t many teams that can stop a 6-4, 190-pound post player, even when they know what we’re going to do’ Hutch: ‘They only picked us sixth. That means there’s not as much pressure…But we’ll remember it…I think this year’s team has more depth that last year’s…’ -
Probably not. Just like hoops, with 30-odd conferences, Albany would have to rank about 40 or better for an at-large bid, especially as an eastern school. First two rounds are on campus sites. Last year New Hampshire traveled to #1 So Cal. Regionals are in Louisville, Minneapolis, Green Bay, and Seattle. Final 4 at Long Beach.

Listen to special 11/6 WCDB Sat. Sports Spotlight
UAalum72 replied to GreatDanes06's topic in General Danes Stuff
If you want us to listen, you should tell us what time? -
The Northeast Conference also had a conference call for media day - not that we should be looking at them as an example. By the AEast schedule, each coach - even Brennan - gets a whole five minutes after they announce the preseason teams and predictions. Less than 2 hours total. I don't know if that reflects the level of interest of the press, or if the conference is trying to keep down the phone charges.

sorry, missed the basketball in the title.

Open Scrimmage - 10AM Saturday
UAalum72 replied to Patch's topic in Winter Sports-Danes Hoops, Track
Didn't make it myself, but the best story is DP telling me that Brown had his players write their expectations for the year in scoring and playing time; when he added them up we'd be scoring 208 ppg using about 440 player-minutes per game. Maybe we'll have to play uptempo just to tire everybody out and spread the playing time around. -
Here's the article. The only leverage would be if the NEC raises the number of counters to 45-50 and starts beating better teams. Even then I think they'd have to raise the number of teams in the playoffs to accomodate additional leagues. Any of this will be long-term anyway. And somehow, I don't see Monmouth in the Patriot League either.

After what looked like a vapor barrier and a resilient underlayment, the finish planks started going down today.

By itself, I might give them the benefit of the doubt, but combined with such 'scheduling problems' in other sports (lax, FB, baseball), I don't feel like it.

No mention of Albany athletics at www.albany.org
UAalum72 replied to DanesFan95's topic in General Danes Stuff
Out-of-town visitors. This site is probably in the packet that arriving conventioneers get telling them about things to do. We don't 'need' to draw fans from here, it's just a missed opportunity. -

There ARE links to UAlbany football and basketball thru the Events Calendar, but you have to dig for them; you're right, there's no mention on the front page of 'Albany's Own Spectator Sports' -
Story in today's Gazette about the opening of practice. Brown contends all five starters will have to battle to retain those spots. 'The cupboard here was empty when I took over...Now, when we open the door, there's something there'. Story also called our 2003-03 ROY 'Jamal' Wilson and the 7-foot-1 center 'Kristen' Zoellner.
