  1. I didn't see the broadcast. Just checked their website and there's nothing on it. Maybe they haven't updated it yet.
  2. This from Chicago Hoops.com "Former Chicago Washington star Courtney Horton, who just capped off a stellar career at Southeastern Iowa Community College, is expected to select a school from Loyola, Albany, Miami, OH and Northern Iowa. " Stats from Southeastern Iowa CC

  4. A story today in today's TU about former players and their pro basketball careers after college. The Globetrotters-Times Union I couldn't find the link anymore but it's too bad they didn't mention the Todd Cetnar line of merchandise when he playing in England. That was great stuff.
  5. I'll second that congratulations. Glad to hear that you'll be on WCDB for the foreable future as well.
  6. Albany-Siena play in just about every sport in the spring except baseball. I wonder why?
  7. Lindsey Clark is the only other recruit I can remember who was an all-state first team player. Hopefully the women's players from Nebraska are as good as the men's players from Iowa.
  8. I didn't realize they changed the format for the playoffs this year. Still a good idea to beat Bing though!
  9. I have to say I'm glad you posted this yesterday 84. In our house we have a calendar on which I write "important" Danes events to attend. Generally if I write them on there first they prempt other engagements-as in "let me check my calendar. Nope can't make it, lacrosse game that day." In my haste to secure the date I had written that the game was at 7 and not 1. I would have been irritated to get down to find no game going on. At least the parking would have been easy. Our only shot for a home playoff game is to beat Bing in two weeks to secure the third seed and hope for an upset in the first round. Judging from the last couple of years the #1 seed hasn't been an assurance of anything. The last two years someone else has won the regular season title and Albany has won the conference tournament. Hopefully that trend continutes.
  10. Yet again Statefan uses his pull to have an event scheduled near his office so it's convienent for him. Should be a fun event. It doesn't say who'll be the MC but my guess would have to be Dan Murphy.
  11. I know the list has been out for a while but there have been a few stories about next year's recruits. Here's a couple: Askew Signs with Albany-Hudson Reporter Barr Ready for Albany Challenge-Waverly Sun
  12. I don't have particularly strong feelings about this but hasn't Siena already been the visiting team at the Pepsi Arena on several occasions? Everytime the MAAC Championship is held there it's supposed to be a neutral court. When the Saints play a higher seed in the tourney they are technically the visitors. I have no idea how this affects the season-ticket holders seating if at all. I also wanted to commend both sides in this discussion for being relatively insult-free.
  13. No menion of puking on the field but a good story in today's TU on Queener. Lacrosse goalie sticks to his tasks
  14. I understand the consternation of some people about Albany's seats at the Pepsi. If we're getting a fair shake financial that doesn't bother me too much. Playing one game down there per year is good to remind me how glad I am that we don't play all our games down there. If their fans are willing to pay two or three times more for their season tickets to see similar basketball (RPI-wise) than they can have their usual seats in that game. It was informative that Albany only gets the money for tickets sold through the UA box office. We should keep that in mind when it comes to getting tickets next year. The thing about Albany-Siena for the future is discussion about including them in this tournament to be held at the Pepsi. Am I just paranoid or can anyone else see Siena forcing us to buy some kind of tournament package to see that game instead of allowing us to buy single game tickets?
  15. One of the things I find amusing about the Siena board is their discussion of the Albany-Siena game. It was just a couple of years ago many (not all) of them wanted to discontinue the series because Albany dragged their RPI down. Now they are looking for a big turnout for the game to meet their attendance goals. Funny how that's changed. I'm hoping we can get some home games next year early in the season while the students are still in town. It seemed like it was February before they were around to turn out in force last year.
  16. I don't suppose we can switch and have Capel bring Oklahoma to Albany next year can we? Interesting because Capel signed a long-term extention right after the season. Pete Gillen is one of the people they're talking about replacing Capel at VCU.
  17. Updated it just for you Bosiydid. For the record, as a rule we don't like the Seawolves.
  18. UConn is their model? Could they possibly have said that with a straight face? BTW I like the way Fiore (the AD) and Priore (the coach) sound together. Much like Heckle and Jeckle.
  19. This would generally be the part in the thread where I give my speech about not disparaging potential recruits on the board. Since I just gave it a few weeks ago I won't repeat it and instead just delete the post.
  20. There's an ad in today's paper thanking the fans. Link Also a letter to the editor setting both Albany and Siena fans straight on what the biggest achievement in Capital District sports was. Letter to the editor
  21. From the Greeley (Colorado) Tribune: SPARTAN COMES UP GOLDEN Mandi Torrez, (Bio) torrez@greeleytrib.com April 9, 2006 Neal Kingman didn't have a choice. A couple of games into his varsity career, he simply had to turn in his Greeley West basketball jersey. "His sophomore year we had slated him as a JV player and varsity helper early in the season," West coach Bill Whitehead said. "We were playing Loveland at home, and I put Neal into the game. Loveland was playing a zone and after Neal made three 3-pointers in a row from the left wing, they decided that a zone defense probably wasn't a good idea. I remember leaning over to Coach Lowenbach and said, 'After the game, make sure you get his JV uniform put away.' " It was only a couple of games later that Kingman made his way to the starting varsity lineup. Not only did he stay in the starting lineup for two more years, but Kingman is the top recruit to come out of West since former University of Northern Colorado and Denver Nugget player Mike Higgins. Kingman ended his senior season as the team leader in points (17.7 per game), assists (5), rebounds (8) and blocks. For efforts that also earned him the Class 4A Northern Conference Player of the Year, Kingman is the Tribune Athlete of the Year in boys basketball. The 6-foot-6 Spartan is one package that doesn't fit perfectly into any one role. "I'm kind of a player that doesn't really have a position," Kingman said. "I can do a little of everything at every position. I can score, shoot outside or go in the post or off the dribble, so I think I'm versatile in that sense." Whitehead saw the potential early. The coach first took notice of Kingman in middle school. Whitehead said it was Kingman's "beautiful" form that made the left-hander stand out. But he wasn't quite sold on that short and pencil-thin player until later at a summer open gym. "He got a rebound and took off real hard and was going down the left side of the court. The defense was set, but he kept going pell-mell, and I thought, 'My God, there's going to be a wreck here,' " Whitehead said. "He spun real hard, a spin dribble back toward the middle and shot a left-handed lay-up. He left the other kids standing there wondering what happened, and I thought to myself, 'That was pretty good. That was pretty good.' " When Kingman shot up 7 inches between his freshman and sophomore seasons, it got even better. That growth spurt created what Whitehead calls a unique combination of size and skill that put Kingman at another level. "One of the things that is really unique about Neal is that, although he stretched out so fast and even though he didn't have some of the strength he has now, he maintained his skill level," Whitehead said. "That's really rare. Typically, when kids grow that fast, the phone rings and they fall, and that didn't happen with Neal." Other West coaches saw it, too. They tried to get him on the football field and tennis court. Baseball was the only other sport Kingman tried until this spring. He may already be on pace to qualify for the state track meet as a jumper in his first try with the sport. Other things come naturally to Kingman, too. He carries 3.7 gpa and is involved in FBLA, Big Brother Big Sister and National Honor Society. When he volunteers for the Junior Spartans basketball program, Whitehead said it's like Michael Jordan walking into the gym when Kingman arrives. Whitehead will tell you it's as much because of Kingman's personality and behavior as it is his basketball skills that draw people to him. "It's kind of grandfatherly talk, but Neal is a very good boy," Whitehead said. "He doesn't want a lot of attention. Yet, here it is." Kingman hopes it's all enough to draw the attention from the right college. On the list of interested programs are the University at Albany, Oral Roberts, St. Cloud State, Loyola, Seattle Pacific and Furman University. "I always said I wanted to play at the biggest school I can where I can still get ample playing time," said Kingman, who hopes to make a decision by the end of the month. "I don't want to go somewhere just to say I went to that school but sat on the bench the whole time." The bench is a place Kingman never really got acquainted with in his career, but college ball is a long way from middle school, when Kingman said, "I was average if anything." But since he took over as a leader as an eighth-grader at John Evans, Kingman's play has gone above the average, especially during that pivotal game his sophomore year that put the three-time all-conference player on the map. "He really had good skills," Whitehead said of Kingman as a sophomore. "I thought about how to bring him along slowly, yet capitalize on those skills. But by Christmas, his play made it clear that he just needed to be thrown in there. He was going to be fine." There wasn't anything slow about Kingman's rise to the top of Weld, and he did turn out to be quite fine. Meet Neal Kingman Greeley West Senior Season highlights: Kingman led West to a first-round bye in the Class 4A state tournament. His season high was 30 points in a game against Sterling in January, and only three teams held him to single-digit scoring this season. Kingman's efforts earned him the Northern Conference player of the year award. He is incredibly athletic and knows how to play smart basketball. He should make a big jump up the rankings very soon.
  22. According to Rivals Albany has offered Chicago forward Isiah Martin a scholarship. He's 6'8, 200 lbs from Morgan Park High School and was rated the 17th player in Illinois by Illinois High School Basketball. From Rivals: Martin had quite a transformation over the winter, as he began to adjust his regimen and began to watch more closely what he was eating. A player who began his junior senior with a slight build, Martin's work in the weight room and at the dinner table has paid off. "Since our season ended in March, I've been going to the Y (YMCA) a lot and been lifting and playing ball with some older guys." Although he still is a bit undersized at two hundred pounds, the work will continue and Martin expects to enter into college with a build that can withstand the punishment of the college game. Martin's calling card is his defensive play, as evident by the mention of his favorite part of the game, "I love to get up and block a guy's shot." At Morgan Park, Martin averaged just over three blocks a game. Besides continuing the work with weights, Martin wants to develop more of an offensive game. Typically, Martin used his athletic ability to create his offense, but expects to add some offensive moves this summer with Meanstreets. Martin states that he averaged just over sixteen points this past year, as well as ten rebounds and three assists a game. "I want to come into a program and play right away, while learning the system on the go" stated Martin. "A team that runs and is athletic is a big factor in where I look to go, as I am at my best in the fast break." Martin has also given some thought to what he would like to concentrate on in school. "I expect to major in finance and hopefully minor in sports management or something close to it."
  23. Not the best way to do it but it's not often your past actually improves. If Will Brown only had this information while he was doing his negotiations-a .500 season and a 20+ win season would have sounded better. The ineligible player had 13 points and 7 rebounds in that game against us.
  24. Sorry you're having trouble with Firefox. That's the first I've heard of that problem. To be perfectly honest I haven't planned on doing another upgrade this year. I did one last summer with the intention of installing the chat room which was accomplished and became popular. Unfortunately I did it at the same time I was ramping up my miles for a fall marathon so I didn't have a lot of time to fix everything. Hopefully this summer I can fix a few of the glitches like the avatar problem (UAFan I didn't forget you). Glad you enjoy the board (even if improperly scaled.)
  25. The fact that the MAAC is sponsoring it makes me skeptical but no matter. I thought I read somewhere that Brown said the schedule for 06-07 was mostly set and he didn't think we could fit the tourney in this year.
