  2. Good to see you post again 2K3. Burns came in second in his qualifing heat and was at least a second slower than his seasons best. Hopefully he can get that form back today. National Championship race is tonight at 7:30. Big day for UA all around.
  3. I stopped by on my way home as well. Tents were out along the track around the football field and more students were heading down with sleeping bags etc. Saw one guy walking in carrying at least a dozen pizzas.
  4. For our biggest turnout ever tomorrow. If you're chatting with other Albany fans be sure and mention this board. The more the merrier! Thanks!
  5. UALBANY'S JAMAR WILSON NAMED AMERICA EAST PLAYER OF THE YEAR Brent Wilson and Kirsten Zoellner Also Named to All-America East Squad Boston, Mass. - University at Albany's Jamar Wilson has been named the 2006 America East Conference Player of the Year as announced on Friday, March 3 by the conference office. Wilson was chosen to the first team, while Brent Wilson and Kirsten Zoellner were selected to the third team in voting by the league's head coaches. Wilson, who earned All-America East recognition for the third time, became just the fifth player in conference history to receive the league's top player and rookie award during a career. Reggie Lewis (Northeastern), Taylor Coppenrath (Vermont), T.J. Sorrentine (Vermont) and Tunji Awojobi (Boston University) also accomplished that feat. Wilson, a 6-foot-1 junior from Bronx, N.Y., is second in the conference in scoring at 17.6 points per game, plus averages 4.8 rebounds, 3.9 assists and 1.4 steals. He has scored 20 or more points on 13 occasions this season, including 30 against Maine on Feb. 11. Wilson, the first player in school history to combine for more than 1,400 career points and 300 assists, was recently named to the NABC All-District II second team. Brent Wilson, a 6-foot-8 sophomore, averaged 10.4 points and 4.6 rebounds in his first season as a starter. A native of Cedar Rapids, Iowa, he scored in double figures 16 times, including a career-high 19 against Oakland. Wilson, who ranked seventh among the conference leaders with 52 three-point field goals, was a member of the 2005 America East all-rookie squad. Kirsten Zoellner, a 7-foot-1 senior from Hannover, Germany, averaged 7.6 points, plus was third among the America East leaders in blocked shots (1.32 pg) and 11th in rebounding (5.2 pg). Zoellner, who led the team in field goal percentage (.568), transferred from Boston College prior to the 2004-05 campaign. He grabbed 10-plus rebounds three times this year.
  6. MEN'S BASKETBALL DOWNS UMBC TO EARN AMERICA EAST REGULAR SEASON TITLE Baltimore, Md. - Sophomore guard Jon Iati had 20 of his career-high 29 points in the first half in leading UAlbany to a 76-61 America East Conference victory over UMBC on Sunday, Feb. 26 at Retriever Athletic Center. The Great Danes clinched their first-ever America East regular season title and will be the top seed for next week's postseason tournament. UAlbany (18-10, AE 13-3) reversed an early 5-4 deficit with 10 of the game's next 12 points. Iati made the first of a career-best six 3-point field goals to put his team ahead and finished off that run with a steal and layup. He canned four long-range jumpers in the opening period, as his team took a 35-26 margin to the locker room. The Great Danes, who have won eight of their last 10 contests, still led 44-37 early in the second half but then pulled away with a 12-5 scoring run. Lucious Jordan, who had all 13 of his points after halftime, sank a three-pointer from the top of the arc to begin that outburst. Kirsten Zoellner, a 7-foot-1 senior, added a pair of baskets before Brent Wilson's three-pointer gave his club a 56-42 advantage with 9:39 remaining. "We talked about winning the regular season all week," commented Jordan, who added seven rebounds. "This is a great accomplishment for our team, but now we need to move on to the next goal. This definitely gives us momentum and confidence. We just need to continue to do the little things in practice this week." John Zito, one of two seniors playing in his final home game, led UMBC (9-18, AE 5-11) with 16 points and six rebounds. Jerrell Dinkins and Chris Pugh each had 10 points for the Retrievers, who came into the game with an 8-3 home record. "I just had one of those days where everything is dropping," said Iati, who made 8-of-12 from the field and 7-of-8 from the line in reaching twin figures for the first time since Dec. 28. "I felt comfortable playing out there and when Coach (Brown) put me in early, that showed he had confidence in me." Wilson and Zoellner each scored in double figures for the Great Danes with 11 points apiece. Jamar Wilson finished with nine points and five assists. The Great Danes, as the top seed, will play in the America East quarterfinal round on Saturday, March 4 at 6 p.m.
  7. Nice write-up 84. I have to say I'm optimistic about Higy who was a good player in a very good conference (Colonial). I think this season wouldn't have been so much of a struggle had Thrower not been injured. Looking forward to her and Mikus in the backcourt next year. Amazing how tough this conference was this year. 11th strongest conference in the nation and could maybe break the top 10 if Hartford and Stony Brook are as good next year.

  10. I can see your case for Mikus and Sanders but I think generally underclassmen don't get the benefit of the doubt in cases like that. I admit I wasn't as impressed with Mikus as a freshman as some other people were but she really improved this year. 14th in scorind, 6th in assists and 2nd in steals-pretty good year for a sophmore.
  11. I agree although the anticipation and media coverage this week has been fun. Down to 48 hours to tip....
  12. I like Will Brown's answer and I like McFan's too. I had some Siena fans ask me about this over the week. Their point being the tickets could be cheaper at the Pepsi because you'd sell more. I'd rather pay more to have it on campus and apparently so would 4600 other people. The RACC is Albany's home court-period. I applaud the university for keeping this on campus.
  13. I'm happy to see it isn't Jason Williams (of Duke Fame) who I heard do another conference championship this week. He did the Vermont-Northeastern championship game last year and was the king of self reference. I'll be surprised if Tom Brennan doesn't work himself into this broadcast in some capacity.
  14. I think most of the info on scout.com is pretty old. The last thing I saw was they were interested to some degree in a Juco small forward from Arizona but that was a while ago too. I can tell you one thing, the recent media attention has got to help recruiting. Maybe help bring in another good recruit during the spring signing period.
  15. Just looking at your math. I have to wonder what the fire code problem is that prevents them from selling out to capacity and how big of a deal it would be to fix it. Assuming they would have sold those extra 500 seats if they could in the two sell-outs this year that would have been an extra $15,000 in revenue just from ticket sales. Plus it would be that much louder.
  16. Some good stories in today's papers about the sell-out. Also more publicity for our favorite blogger. UAlbany's Tickets a Quick Sell-TU Duell Tries to Deny Danes-TU UAlbany Basketball is a Hot Ticket-Troy Record
  17. Sounds like Reid Anderson is playing well as his team goes deeper into the Ohio state playoffs. Eagles Seize Control Early, Roust Rams-Cleveland Plain Dealer I also thought this post about him was funny. From a Cleveland area message board: *Reid Anderson is the man! He's got handles, got height, can shoot, can rebound, can defend...... wait... what the heck can't he do! Maybe he can't guard Shaq! *Roe - my jaw is still dropped! The kid stole the ball twice in a row and ran the length of the floor both times with the speed and handles of a point guard!
  18. Just thought I'd make this current. Vermont Board
  19. I think if you're a student and you go there Saturday morning in an authentic "Racc Rowdies" shirt you shouldn't have to stand in line. They should just give you the tickets.
  20. Great post. I think that's the highest the track team has ever placed at the IC4A meet. President Hall touched on some of the achievements in all of the sports at the pre-game party in Bing. From a fans perspecitive it's great to have something good going on during every season-Fall, Winter, Spring.
  21. I saw Yocum sitting behind the Albany bench. I've been impressed with the number of game he's attended this season and his enthusiasum. He stood up to applaud pretty much every time the team came over to the bench for a timeout and whenever a sub came over. Great to see a guy so visibly excited about becoming a Great Dane.
