  1. Funny they have Kelsey Jenks listed at a DE but is 215lbs. He was a linebacker in high school wasn't he? I remember he had great high school credentials last year when he came in.
  2. With the new seasons right around the corner we need more people, not less. Come on back Downtown.
  3. Thanks to Statefan for the idea.
  4. The coaches poll should be out in a few weeks. We'll have to see how we stack up.
  5. From the UA website Geir Gudmundsen, Brandon Shaw, Kurt Cambell and Lucas Kurtz have ben named captains. With all new starters in the offensive backfield hopefully the "Riverboat Gambler" can step-up and provide some leadership. GUDMUNDSEN, SHAW, CAMPBELL & KURTZ NAMED UALBANY FOOTBALL CAPTAINS Albany, N.Y. – University at Albany head football coach Bob Ford announced today that Geir Gudmundsen, Brandon Shaw, Kurt Campbell and Lucas Kurtz have been voted team captains for the 2004 season. The Great Danes, who shared their second consecutive Northeast Conference championship last year, open their schedule on Thursday, Sept. 2 at Hofstra. Kickoff is 7:00 p.m. ET. The contest will be televised on Fox Sports New York. Gudmundsen, a 6-foot-6, 315-pound left tackle, has made 33 consecutive starts on UAlbany’s offensive line. He was named to three postseason Division I-AA All-America teams in 2003. Gudmundsen, a two-time All-NEC first-team selection, blocked for an offense that ranked fourth nationally in rushing at 292.3 yards per game. Shaw, a 6-foot, 295-pound center, anchored an offensive line that established the NEC and school single-season rushing record with 3,215 yards last year. Shaw, who like Gudmundsen was named to the preseason Sports Network Mid-Major All-America squad, has twice been chosen to the all-conference team. Kurtz, a senior free safety, tied for third on the team in tackles with 55, including 27 unassisted hits, last season. He led the squad in pass break-ups (15) and blocked kicks (3). Kurtz (6-3, 210) totaled a career-high 10 tackles against both Brown and Sacred Heart. Campbell, a senior roverback, leads a defensive unit which was 11th among the NCAA Division I-AA leaders in scoring defense at 16.8 points per game. He suffered through an injury-plagued junior campaign, but when healthy is an all-conference performer. Campbell (6-1, 225) has 86 tackles and 16 pass break-ups during his three-year career.
  6. Sorry gents, no Fudgie the Whale for you. There's a corner ice cream stand dangerously close to our house which is where we're heading tonight. You can meet us there Statefan but it's BYOIC. I admit I asked the question without fully knowing the answer. As far as I know you're right Scott Marr is the only one to win a National Championship. There were a couple of close calls. Will Brown was in the national title game at Sullivan County I think. Also Coach Banda had some great seasons at UMass and lost to North Carolina in the national championship game.
  7. Have any current Albany coaches won an NCAA national championship as a player or a coach?
  8. I wouldn't be surprised if Danielle Hutcheson attended more Albany athletic events than anyone on this board. She seemed to be at just about everything l went to last year. While I'm not a Giants fan I certainly hope they keep training on campus and hold some more things like this in the future. It's great to hear UAlbany's name come up on national media when they talk about Giants training camp. Even better to get locals on campus with things like the Jets-Giants. As the new facilites on campus get built things like this will be a terrific way to introduce the football-loving public to them and hopefully get them to come back to watch a few games.
  9. The America East has posted their prospectus for men's basketball. Most of the info about Albany has been posted here already but there is some good stuff on other teams in the conference. AE Prospectus
  10. Did anyone go on Saturday?
  11. Laxpower updated their recruiting list recently. They have Putnam Valley's goalie AJ Babnik coming to UA. He's the third recruit from Putnam Valley, All-American Steve Ammann and his brother Mike Ammann are also coming to UA. Babnik and the brothers Ammann are 1-2-3 in their class in GPA.
  12. My wife and I were chuckling over the front page story in today's TU. It's about some $iena students who are upset over the school recent prohibition of late-night coed get-togethers. It can't help enrollment. Siena closes door to late-night liaisons-TU. Another is on the popularity of interim president Ryan. Interim leader a faculty favorite-TU.
  13. She's quite welcome. I knew she was a loyal UA fan from her appearances at the tourney the last couple of years. We should consider ourselves lucky to find women who are willing to make roadtrips like that.
  14. I heard there was supposed to be a terrific version of the national anthem at "the Joe" this week. Any chance they'll be an encore upcoming at the RACC this year?
  15. From looking at the season preview yesterday there are alot more question marks than there have been the past few years. One of the conference teams is going to hang a loss on us. I'd like to think we win one of the OOC games. With that schedule I'd say 7-4 would be a pretty good acomplishment.
  16. The Hofstra site says that game will be televised on something called FSNY. I'm wondering is that the Fox channel the Mets games are on(or used to be on)? There's not much optimism on the Hofstra board this season. They won two games last year and aren't looking like they're going to set the world on fire this year. I'm pretty sure the last time we played them they had been in the national championship game the year before.
  17. Football practice begins next Monday afternoon. Good season preview on the university site. Interesting that they've moved Ungerzagt to tight end. Hopefully that means the incoming group of backs are that good.
  18. I was discussing former UA assistant Steven Stewart with some people at work the other day. What a mess he walked into at Lasalle. I can't imagine you could even see that coming. I agree with you Dane96 about Sauers. Isn't it possible he just wanted to get out of the college ranks?
  19. In today's TU they have the results of their Sports Illustrated-like poll. The $iena-Albany rivalry finished second to RPI-Union hockey. As I read through the results I was trying to see if Statefan voted. Under "Enemy of the State" there were two votes for Mike Deane, one for $iena-either one of those could have been his. I like "anyone from New Jersey" as an answer which got one vote. Survey Results
  20. I couldn't find the newspaper story on this but there's a story on his agents website. They describe his as a great shooter and says he "dunks in a spectacular way." I'm not sure I ever saw that part of his game. E.J. Gallup signs in Amsterdam after great Court Side Camp E.J. Gallup played for Coastal Carolina University in the Big South Conference. He became First Team All Conference after having a great senior year this past season with 17,2ppg and 3,1rpg. He showed his main strength from behind the arch with 43,4%! E.J. transferred from the University of Albany to Coastal for the Spring semester of 2002, becoming eligible in December 2002. Was one of the top freshman scorers in NCAA Division One at the University of Albany in 2000-´01. E.J. will turn 23 on September 26 and is expected to have a succesfull first season in Europe!
  21. Oops, I really screwed that up. Thanks for the info DaneMan. Any word on how he's doing?
  22. He started a game last week for the Luray Wranglers of the Valley Baseball League in Virginia. I don't think it's a pro league so his eligibility wouldn't be effected. I'm wondering if he's planning on playing his senior year at Albany.
  23. Going from the stat lines it looks like Alicia Learn hasn't had a great ESG at least compared to her play last season. She's been scoreless in one game, 3 points in one and 6 in another. I would suspect because of her size the coaching staff there is not using her properly as happened to Levi last year. Her Cental team is 2-1 and will play for the bronze against NYC. Maree Jones has played pretty well but the Adirondack team is 0-3. She's had games of 6, 9 and 10 points.
  24. I won't deny I've been slacking off. I should have said do svidanja to Woman from Russia's post a while ago. I would like to welcome Once a Purple Fan though. I'm glad you found us and look forward to seeing you post.
  25. Some of you know more that me how good Monmouth will be this year. That should be a great showdown game that I wish was later in the season.
