  1. Only saw them a few times last year but I don't think of them as a pressing team. They just aren't going to take any shot clock violations either. The impressive thing about them the past few years is they've had multiple talented guards. They play at a fast pace a dropoff when their bench guys come in. https://dailygazette.com/article/2017/11/06/ualbany-men-s-basketball-looks-to-slow-iona Iona preview from NYC Buckets - http://www.nycbuckets.com/2017/11/ionas-volatile-backcourt-sets-gaels-apart-in-maac/
  2. Well, not us but our adopted team. Some of you who are local might remember last fall Holy Trinity, a local high school team, had their field house burn down due to arson and they lost all of their equipment right before the high school playoffs. They wore borrowed UAlbany jerseys for their last few games. This year, they have their old jerseys back and won the Class C championship on Friday night. They're headed for the state playoffs next week.
  3. Getting tossed from the exhibition is the bad part. Especially starting as many freshman as they are that lack of control doesn't send a great message. Pretty sure it was Lemoyne who beat Syracuse in an exhibition game a few years ago so I don't know how much of an indicator that is but I'm sure it will make some unhappy Siena fans even unhappier.
  4. I was thinking about these loses as well. I can remember years where we've lost games but I can't remember losing so many games in the brutally painful, last-minute way we've lost this year.
  5. I have to disagree on this game. If we have one game left to play for pride this is the one and I hope it shows. Stony Brook has six wins and probably needs eight for the playoffs with three games left. I don't want Albany to be one of those wins they need.
  6. This seems pretty spot on, but I will add that the 3 of those guys could all earn more playing time as the learn the system better and get the defensive focus. Remember that this time last year Campbell was only getting a couple of minutes each game and he forced himself into the lineup by the start of conference play. Healy and Anderson can both shoot lights out, and Hank is huge. This makes sense. An early advantage to the guys with more experience - Clark, Cochran, Conway and Foster. Conway might be a little behind because of the thumb injury. Healy and Hank look to be in the rotation, how much depends on how quickly they pick things up. If the starting five stays the same I like the scoring from Nichols, Cremo, Campbell and Charles with the Viking doing the dirty work under the boards. Add to that more pop off the bench in the form of Foster, Clark and Cochran and it's a nice looking group.
  7. A little like the Cincinati game last year. They force the ball out of your point guard's hand and make someone else handle (and turn it over.) In the Cincinati game it was Cremo, last night it was Campbell. If there's a bright spot, it's that if Foster and Travis Charles can have good nights against WVU they can probably do it against anybody on our regular season schedule. In a couple of weeks we'll hopefully remember the lessons from this game and forget the result.
  8. You can include Devonte Campbell in that group. 4 points and 8 turnovers. Travis Charles had played well. Foster looks like he's had an OK night and Ahmad Clark wasn't bad coming off the bench.
  9. how are you able to tell whether the ball is getting over half court? Mostly going by our 16 turnovers and the fact that their nickname is Press Virginia.
  10. If nothing else, Travis Charles is having a good night when we get the ball over half court.
  11. Before last season someone asked CB what incoming player would have the biggest impact. He said Devonte Campbell. Wyland asked him the same question this year and he said two guys - Alex Foster and Ahmad Clark. Talked about sometimes moving David Nichols off the ball and playing Clark at the point. Said Clark can make plays for himself and make other guys better.
  12. During most years this game would be a secret scrimmage we wouldn't hear about so live stats are a step up.
  13. Not quite the same love we've had from other places from CBS. Get your scroll finger ready to find us at #145. https://www.cbssports.com/college-basketball/news/ranking-all-351-college-basketball-teams-from-duke-to-alabama-a-m/?irgwc=1&clickid=wJNTJsT04QFXUZkyqd3q-0bdUkmyFDRNW3f%3A300
  14. For anyone interested in our first opponent. Daily Dose of Hoops wrote about their exhibition with Army for hurricane relief. http://dalydoseofhoops.blogspot.com/
  15. West Virginia was picked second in the Big 12 in the coaches poll. Two senior guards...pretty good prep for the season.
  16. Another offer out to Atem Bior. A JUCO now but originally from Australia.
  17. Trimboli has to hate us right back. His senior year we upset Vermont in the tournament after a poor regular season. That was the year Bing cheated. The irony of that year was that I was fully prepared to root for Vermont if they were playing Bing. It's funny watching the clips of Jamar. When he was a freshman I remember Will Brown told Jamar we were building a program and he was going to be part of something that lasted. Ten years later we're still watching the clips - I guess he was right.
  18. You sucked me into watching most of this last night. It was actually a tighter game in the first half than I remember.
  19. Coach talking about a lack on defensive intensity isn't a great sign. Hopefully that changes.
  20. According to Verbal Commits we've offered Atun Maricevic, a 6'10 center now playing at Casper College. He's got some CAA, Mountain West and West Coast Conference offers already.
  21. True but he did have that nice rejection of Foster late in the game of what looked like a sure-fire dunk. For a freshman, he was solid.
  22. It wouldn't surprise me if he was taking notes. One of the fun things about these events is talking to the players and the amount of attention they pay to detail. They were talking about watching videos of post-up plays (on their own) and when to employ them depending of what the defender is doing against you. I'm guessing there was some Cremo influence there. -Not sure how Travis Charles doesn't start. That was a clinic last night. We can really build around a post presence. -Maybe I've forgotten how good Nichols was but he was just unguardable. -Hank doesn't look like a freshman. Just from what we saw, that's a nice combo of frontcourt players in Hank, Stire, Charles and Foster. -Cochran looked good. I'm guessing he'll start a little slow coming off the redshirt year. -If Clark is as good as he sounds it will be tough for the guards to find minutes. First 10 games or so will be interesting. There are a lot of different potential combos as a lot of the new guys can really play.
  23. I admire your optimism Sir! Especially after two heartbreaking weeks in a row. One small thing to cheer me up today - Stony Brook lost to Delaware. Hey, I'll take what I can get!
  24. I have high expectations for Clark. DJ Evans and Evan Singletary have made me a sucker for JUCO point guards.
