  1. Very happy for Poffenbarger. I live in South Florida so will definitely get to Hard Rock stadium for a game or two. Also, just a great story. He walks on at ODU, transfers to us and is in a QB battle before being named the starter. Then leads us to the best performance in school history before transferring to a P5. People can knock the transfer portal and there are some issues with it but clearly someone missed on his evaluation and the transfer portal is giving him a chance to chase his dreams. Not sure how successful he’ll be but I’m rooting for him.
  2. Can someone help me understand why FBS or FCS players would transfer to an FCS program. I remember the old process when FBS players would transfer “down” so they can play immediately but now players can transfer whenever or wherever they want and play immediately so why would they choose an FCS program? I see the players who get through FBS spring workouts and realize they won’t get playing time making that decision - they might just want a place to land. I also see D2 players moving “up” to FCS as well as current FBS players that are looking for FCS experience / exposure with the chance of moving back to an FBS program or maybe someone just looking for some increased playing time moving FCS to FCS. Seems to me that FCS schools will have to wait until spring workouts to see who’s available to transfer and those players might just be looking to establish a resume and go back to FBS.
  3. I think we have to do a much better job on special teams and avoid giving up big plays. We’re just not good at kickoff and punt coverage so I’m hoping we don’t try to kick / punt deep - don’t want to give them good field position. Also, Wentz had a fumbled punt against Richmond, almost had another fumble last week (punt almost hit him) against Idaho and unnecessary returned a kick from his end zone and only got back to the 18 yard line against Idaho. We just can’t have those mistakes tonight. Villanova actually played well last week but they had a blocked punt, another punt that hit one of their players behind the line os scrimmage and then they gave up a long run to Davis late in the game. They might have lost anyway but you can’t beat a great team with those mistakes. jus hoping that Joe Bernard has the special teams ready tonight.
  4. From Sam Herder and Hero Sports - link at bottom The Field 2021-2022 Final Bracketology Accuracy: 14/16 seeds correct, 46/48 teams correct Seeds These are playoff predictions and don’t reflect my current Top 25. The numbers associated with teams may not match where I currently rank them on my ballot. 1. South Dakota State 2. Montana 3. Idaho 4. Furman 5. South Dakota 6. Montana State 7. UAlbany 8. Northern Iowa https://t.co/1GPEb3MDHn
  5. Not much info on the injuries but Jackson Parker did play and had one reception - he wasn’t listed in the box score but I’m sure I saw #10 with a long pass reception. Austin Mosier was injured on the first offensive play of the game and didn’t come back. On the CAA call yesterday, I think coach Gattuso said it was a lower body injury but I’ve heard nothing else. I’ve heard nothing about Alexander or Houseman (the center).
  6. https://www.yahoo.com/news/former-super-bowl-champion-arrested-182306529.html TAMPA, Fla. (WFLA) — Former Super Bowl champion and New York Giants running back Dion Lewis was arrested Monday at the Seminole Hard Rock Hotel & Casino in Florida. Arrest documents show Lewis was taken into custody by Seminole Indian Police around 2 p.m. and booked into the Orient Road Jail of the Hillsborough County Sheriff’s Office an hour later. Lewis was charged with trespassing in an occupied structure. His bond was set at $500.
  7. https://x.com/marksingelais/status/1698781396515369371?s=61&t=PqOH9q50qkhgNVVEr34wsw UAlbany graduate safety DaeSean Winston had his arm in a sling during Monday's practice. Hurt on Marshall's opening drive. "We have a shot to get him back at the end of the year," Greg Gattuso said. "We'll see. It all depends on how the surgery goes ... It's a loss."
  8. In my opinion, there is minimal demand for tickets for any UAlbany sport so why have high ticket prices or these seat deposits? The amount of money collected from the season tickets and seat deposits is insignificant compared to the cost of construction. This isn’t Syracuse or even ODU. it seems to me, that Benson has struggled to realize this. You get fans by having a simple, inexpensive pricing structure. Over time, you can increase prices and add complexity. Nothing like watching the home football games and seeing all the empty yellow seat backs.
  9. The $2.75 million is the same as the original agreement in 2006 and is considerably less than other naming rights agreements.
  10. IMO, the best news from that release is Bill Nesselt is now the defensive coordinator and Joe Bernard is the special teams coordinator. I don’t know much about Coach Nesselt but I know we’ve struggled on defense under Coach Bernard and we struggled on offense when he was the OC. Not sure how I feel about Dion Lewis. He does bring a lot of experience but Coach Gattuso has a track record of hiring his friends, players he coached or coaches with NFL experience and while it sounds good, it’s yet to help the team win.
  11. I wish him well but I don’t understand the move. He’s a 5’11 middle linebacker - he might get a shot at a higher level but it doesn’t seem likely. Even if he does go to a higher level, will he get much playing time? Dan Damico was an all CAA middle linebacker before he transferred to Villanova and I don’t think he played much this year. The year before, Levi Metheny transferred to Murray State and didn’t do much. Also interesting that he’d transfer now - 2 weeks into the spring semester. You’d think he’d transfer so he could be at a new school now instead of waiting to the summer. We need more size up the middle and the transfer LB is bigger so maybe he’ll move to the middle - I think he was a weak side LB at Juco.
  12. I agree - kudos to Coach Marr but there isn’t a downside. He has a tryout so there’s no commitment to him making the team. He was good enough to get a Syracuse offer so he’s probably a very good player.
