1. Are these not the same players who were together last year (B.Wilson subbed in for St.Hillaire) ? 10871 You mean the same players that finished below .500 last season? I think you guys were expecting more than the team was capable of giving A few observations from an outsider: and I know you guys know far more about the team than I I agree with Wilson at the point, not sure what the answer is, I think jamar is much more effective off the ball. Is Iati capable of running the point? What’s wrong with Levine? I like him as a player it seems to me when Albany plays Zoelner and B Wilson at the same time you guys are a slow team. Personally I like to see Levine more time at the 4. Albany is made to run with Jordan, Wilson, Iati and Levine. Play either Zoe or B Wilson for rebounding but not both Get some easy buckets running the ball when you are struggling with your Offense. Zoelner and B Wilson -both are fine players but both are way below average speed wise. Can't run with them both on the court IMO As it is now teams are following the Siena blueprint…. Pressure Albany guards to make it tough to get the ball to Zoe… and stay all over Iati who is a terrific shooter but struggles to create his own shot. Until Brown counteracts that teams will continue to play Albany the same way.. Again just my 2 cents
2. thank you reeder...at least one Albany fan "gets" that it is in fun.
3. And perhaps most important the second best program in the city ;-).. In all seriousness lets clear up a few lets say mistakes on you alb fans part I never called Ualb fans, Communists or "Neanderthals” I never said we handily defeated you, I said the better team won, big difference. This was Albany ‘s best chance at a win in years and maybe for the next several years I never said Albany didn't play well , in fact it was probably Albany ‘s best game of the year, I am not taking that away from you. And it’s a good thing Albany played well or Siena would have won the game by 30 ;-) I’m not trying smash your program or effort- Many Albany fans talked trash for over a year on how they had surpassed Siena and would destroy Siena in this game. Needless to say how that turned out for you Before the season began you had a thread on this board ( that is now missing or archived) on goals for the season and the number one goal by most posters was too beat Siena. Not only beat Siena but beat them badly, some poster went so far as to say that was more important than beating a conference rival or winning the AE title. I suggest you as fans put your priorities in order Thank you for the advice on how to run the Siena board( I’ll take it under consideration) I have to tell you after seeing the comments made on Siena fans in this forum, your comments ring extremely hollow In meantime see you girls next season when Siena will be about a 20 point favorite in the cross town game. Remember girls it is only mid major hoops, a lot of this is all said and done in fun. I really do have the utmost respect for the Albany program. In fact as I do every year I’ll probably take in a few Ualb games at the RACC. Relax and try and enjoy your team!!
4. Staight from the horse's *ss. Three guys have career nights, Tay Fisher takes an ill advised fall back hit the deck three and regains the lead and Osby hits an out of control runner going diagonally away from the hoop and gets bumped in OT and of course that make Siena the superior team. I'm sure McCaffrey designed those plays for those situations. Patch typical Albany poster, when you have no facts resorts to insults. At any rate I won't drop to your low insulting level patch, thanks for the imaginary headlines. Not sure where you get 3 guys with career nights? Looks like you are taking more literary license to soothe your battered ego. Understandable Patch, you shot yer mouth off for months how Albany was going to kill Siena, how Albany had surpassed Siena etc, it has to be quite humbling for you to see you are nowhere near that yet. The scary thing for a Albany fan is Siena is a very young team, it will be interesting how Siena will handle being the heavy favorite next season. My guess is they handle it well, but time will tell Siena is a very young team, as far as Tay Fisher goes patchy ( a lesson for you) he can hit that shot, you don't become the all time 3 point shooter in NY state history without being able to shoot the 3 ball. Tay Fisher made a definitive statement that he was flat out better player than John Iati, that goes without saying. and that is no knock on Iati who is a terrific player for Albany Like I've said , Albany will come around, you really only have the one bad loss. I think we can all agree the better team won Saturday. ;-)
5. You guys will be fine. Albany only really has the one bad loss to Sacred Heart..other than that.. hey what did you expect against Florida? And the trip out west was almost a guaranteed 2 losses. And Saturday well Albany just lost to a better team. To Albany's credit you kept the game close, in fact even forcing an overtime to a superior team .I will say this after seeing HC( probable 2nd place team in patriot league) and Fordham ( well they are an A10 team) I'd say Albany is better than both teams. Once you get into your conference schedule and play teams at your level I'm sure you guys will do fine
6. Of course from your point of view it was not a foul...Only have one thing to say.. SCOREBOARD…. you LOST.. get over it
7. I know my UAlbany education is a lot better than Loudonville CC's, but I'm sure you've learned somewhere that you actually have to have established position for it to be a charge. You can't simply flop with contact when you're beat defending a drive to the hoop. Common mistake, but there's plenty season left, so I'm sure you'll catch on soon enough. 10704 Better go back and look at that play again. Jamar was OUT of Control. It was most definitely a charge. the refs were not going to decide the game, that was blatantly obvious. To cry about a non call when Albany was the beneficiary of a dubious call moments before does not reflect well on your Albany education ;-) One other thing genius, Soup is a Marist grad not a Siena grad ( wrong again anyone sense a theme here) Would have, should have, could have, bottom line Albany didn't get the job done. Stop yer whining
8. Take that with a grain of salt, it was from Saintly... in case you guys don't know Saintly hates everyone. Actually Siena fans are happy he is venting on Albany media and Ualb fans, gives us a break
9. Just wanted to say good luck the rest of the season guys, although I don't really think you'll need it. Albany is the best 1-5 team I have seen in quite some time. You guys have some very good players in Wilson, Iati, Jordan ( I knew he would have a big game against us) I think UAlb seen enough of Kojo Mensah who without a doubt was the best player on the floor today. Funny what a difference a head coach can make. Anyway I'm sure you guys will turn it around very shortly. Albany is much too good a team to stay down for long
10. My only regret is that the powers-that-be over on the Siena board will not appreciate the quality of the players we continue to receive. That thought is more than balanced by the prospect of a few more years of dominating Capital District collegiate basketball. Olddog I think Siena fans appreciate that Albany got a good one in Gifford. When Albany signed him, he was really under the radar, not appearing on any recruiting sites. He has since received very favorable write-ups. Any fan of a mid major program knows how difficult it is to sign quality big men. Congrats to Coach Brown and UAlb The Siena board is for promoting Siena, that’s why you’ll see very little on Albany recruits… or Manhattan recruits, Iona recruits etc. Nothing more than a passing mention. You guys have your own board here and the AE board to promote your recruits. You didn’t see Siena fans posting all over the Albany board when they landed a highly rated recruit… a recruit with offers from the big East, A10 and Big 12 etc.
11. Wow I’m so popular over on this board. I guess you all want my attention and approval. I saw the hoopscoop write up. Congrats on the signing
12. You guys are a riot, you give a bunch of opinions.. Not facts and claim them to be facts, when I disagree with your opinions you post ad nauseam. repeating the same lame opinions over and over. My post had nothing to do being beaten ( wishful thinking on your part) with your lame posts, more or less didn’t want to get into a endless pissing match with you Albany guys. Dane 96 is a known trouble maker both on the Siena board and the sMAAC board. His one purpose to post on the Siena board is to start trouble
13. As a Siena fan, I expect a good competitive game. I still think Siena has too much talent for the Danes, buts its certainly not light-years better. The biggest difference is Haddix, I don’t know if Albany has anyone to guard him. Let me ask you Albany guys a question. In the past few seasons Brown has really packed it in against Siena, in an effort to rebound the ball and limit Haddix. What does he do this year? Does he continue to pack it in? Or does he give Haddix his 20 to 30 points… plays behind him and try to limit the other Saints? Or does he double down on Haddix and make Scoop, Tommy Mitchell, Tay Fisher David Ryan etc beat you from outside? My guess is that what he does, but it may backfire since Siena is a much better outside shooting team than they have been the last few years. Perhaps the best way is to double Haddix and make the other Saints prove they can hit the shot.. If the Saints outside shots are falling I think a lot of teams will have their hands full, since few guys in college basketball can handle Haddix down low one on one. how do you guys predict Brown plays his defense?
14. I’m pretty sure the injuries to Haddix and Ryan will be OK, at this point it is just precautionary MRI with Haddix and with David Ryan a precautionary X-ray for possible broken collar bone. Hopefully both teams will be healthy for the game!!!
15. I’d be very surprised if Siena overlooked the Danes. Personally I think Albany is going to be better than most of the so-called experts think. When I look at your top 3 or 4 players I see Jordan ( man he is one tough SOB, better than a lot of people think) Wilson, Iati and Levine.. throw in some size and decent role players and Albany has the makings of a pretty darn good team IMO. Syracuse is a fun game, but one realistically the best the Saints can hope for is to keep it close and even that is easier said than done, Cuse could be a national title contender again this year. Having said that I still think Siena should beat the Danes this year, but they are 18 to 21 year olds and if they overlook the Danes Albany will surely throw a beating on the Saints
16. per hoopscoop 6'7 Kevin Vossilla from Massapequa (H.S.) NY verballed to Rider yesterday
17. I'm pleased to announce Siena beat writer Steve Amedio will be joining the Siena board for a chat Wed, Oct6. Feel free to stop by and ask Steve your Siena hoops, MAAC or even local sports question. Steve has been covering Siena and the MAAC for many years. When it comes to MAAC hoops Steve probably has as good a handle as any sportswriter in the MAAC footprint . http://www.voy.com/33945/
18. Take my foot out of my mouth???? For what asking you if he have seen Zoellner play? And since you have where am I wrong? I never said he couldn’t help Albany . And BTW talk about taking your foot out of yer mouth, this thread was about Prof and his posts, you attacked me out of the blue saying I haven’t seen Zoellner When you have a very popular board you have to draw the line somewhere as to what is allowed As Albany gets better you guys will see what I mean, you will get posters whose sole purpose is to insult and demean. As a moderator you have to draw a line on what is allowed and what is not. Personally I think the Prof is pretty knowledgeable, he does however tend to go over the edge with Siena players (against) and Albany player (for) when he wants to the prof can be a good poster especially when posting facts ( well again he shaky when it comes to Siena) like when he posted Taquan Evans had verballed to Siena when in fact it was Iona but hey nobody is 100% for the most part on message boards we deal in opinions. And hey if Zoellner averages a double double you guys can say SienaTony is full of it…. I could be wrong.. but I doubt it And as my final statement , I do agree it’s all in good fun, the boards are suppose to be fun, this is mid major basketball… enjoy boys!!! And rip away
19. Dane fan, while I appreciate the point of your post, I'm glad you agree name-calling and insults don’t belong on other teams boards. As what does belong on the Siena board its certainly not up to Alb posters to decide the content of the Siena board ( nice try though) Since the Professor chose to air his gripe here (I preferred the private email, I had no desire to embarrass Prof by calling him out in public) The next time he posts an insult on the Siena board… this one stinks is a stiff etc, will be his last post on the Siena board. He can post all insults he wants on this board.. of course only about 20 people read it, so it would behoove the professor to behave, if not he’s history on the Siena board . Of course when Danefan2k3 runs a board he can decide what’s appropriate and who is overreacting, until then I’ll make that decision on the Siena board Hope that helps ;-)
20. Well Prof got one thing right, only a matter of time before he is banned. He will be banned for the same reason as last season. He can't make respectful comments As for Zoellner, what is it with you Albany fans, I didn't call him a stiff, I said he wasn't too skilled. Dane 96 what do you mean by "The guy has never seen Zoellner yet his "sources" tell him Zoellner is going to be $iena." .. What does going be $iena mean???????????? Zoellner is slow and doesn’t have good basketball instincts. That’s why he barely left the pine in two years at BC… he wasn’t even a bit player…. Doesn’t mean he can’t give Albany some minutes, have you seen him play 96..I HAVE One other thing 96, unlike many Siena fans I actually like the Danes, I have a few very good friends that are very closely associated with the Danes, I usually go to a few Dane games a year and generally root for them after the Siena game. Personally I wish nothing but the best for Albany.. . …. Prof why don’t you tell the Albany boys what I asked you? Never mind I will, I asked the Prof to post respectfully to stop calling every Siena player names…I even went as far as to send Prof a copy of the board rules My guess is Prof is banned shortly and if you wanna call me biased for that go ahead
21. I think Albany has a good shot at .500 this year, perhaps a little better. As for Dyson, I told you guys he would need a few years, although he does give you depth and 5 more fouls up front. Der Big Man will help with rebounding, shot blocking, although he doesn’t bring much offensively and he will struggle defending some of the smaller faster centers in the AE. Still I like Albany’s core of players in Wilson, Jordan, Levine and Iati , if Brown can make all the pieces work Albany could surprise this year!!!
22. Patch, you need to chill, I certainly am not a know all see all type. However in my 3 years running the Siena site I have had the pleasure of making several very good contacts in the college basketball world. Contrary to most of the fans on this site the Albany/Siena coaches/administrators do not have this hate relationship most of the Albany posters seem to have with Siena. No need for me and the Professor to debate, he is a known anti Siena and although he's pretty knowledgeable he falls to pieces when it comes to Albany recruits My track record for providing accurate information is pretty darn good I try to differentiate between facts and my opinion. The problem with message boards is someone posts a message and other people taker it for gospel. I offered an “educated” opinion on Dyson. You Guys will see for yourself, I certainly had no intention of firing you guys up as I like and respect the Albany staff, the program and its fans. I have outlived my welcome on this board so I will leave you... good luck this coming year!!!
23. Your kidding right 96? Talk about making my point you had to go back 20 years to come up with a handful of names, Reggie Lewis, Lamont Middleton, Malik Rose were all forwards, you listed Vin baker he was 6’11” and about 185 his first year at Hartford, he stunk, he averaged 4.7 points his freshmen year. How thick are you I said impact freshmen big men??? Very few in the history of the AE or NAC... you boys are all drinking form the same crazy stuff, thinking a impact freshmen big man would pass up major conference offers to go to Albany?? Dyson is a big project and he may pan out for Albany down the road.. and yea big Joe passed up Delaware and the CAA to go to Albany.. or the Duquesne and the A10. Big difference between interest and a actual offer… Albany was Dyson’s best offer As for Jamar… who offered him he had some interest had a great Senior season after he was signed to Albany? Jameer Nelson St Joe’s was his best offer… 96 you really have to do your homework is you want to debate me, made up facts just aint gonna cut it against me
24. Yea Ok prof, Dyson passed up all those offers to play at a start up D1 program in the AE. Get a clue kids almost always sign at the highest level that offers. Dyson has a ton of interest but NO offers.( I have that from a impeccable source) If he were any good Delaware would have signed him At any rate I'm not going to argue with you, you'll see soon enough. As for the best player in the area, Albany still doesn't have any player to guard Haddix, but by your reasoning prof, with all these big men so much better than Siena's players plus Wilson and Jordan ( the two best players in the area) Albany should win in a cake walk right? .. Not this year buddy. To patch... the debate was cut off because it was getting disrespectful, you wanna make your case for dyson fine.... but when certain people start name calling that’s the end of the discussion As for not seeing Dyson, I told you I have a very good friend, who is very involved in college athlttics who has seen Dyson play several times. Not to mention it doesn't take a genius to see a 6'9" 250 pounder who plays in a relativity weak league and only average12 points and 11 boards... and don't give me the Kee kee Clark or Wilson junk totally different situation.. a guys that big in a weak league should get 20 points and 18 boards a game by accident ToDane96 – why don’t you find 30 big men that were “impact players: their freshmen year in the AE. Sure you get guys that develop after a year or two and become good players. AE teams almost never get impact big men..” Better yet Dane 96 why don’t you list the last 10 players over 6’6” in the AE that averaged more than say 12 points and 8 boards their freshmen year, my guess is you’ll have to go back over 30 years..and even then the players that did it were probably more in the 6’6” to 6”8” range… in the history of the AE ( and the NAC before that) I bet there is not more than a few players over 6”8” that made a impact their freshmen year
25. Recruiting site are only worth so much. Hoopscoop happens to be one of the worst. My observations are from various sources I have in college basketball, for instance I have a good friend very close to the Albany staff. Of course the Albany staff is excited about signing Dyson, they signed him didn’t they? And of course he could work out. The fact remains Albany was his best D1 offer. Houston did not offer. The kid played in a relativity weak league and averaged 12 points and 11 boards, hardly impressive. To keep things in perspective Brent was ranked in the top 300 by hoopscoop and he had a lot of interest from big east school because of his body. I suspect and this is just a guess that Dyson will have a similar career to Brent Sniezyk and that’s not all bad, but for professor to proclaim Dyson to be better than any Siena big man is preposterous and quite frankly shows how little the professor actually knows. If any of you are friendly with Brown ask him, he will second my opinion Dyson got a lot of interest especially between his sophomore and junior season. The kid could work out fine, I highly doubt he’ll even contend for rookie of the year since barring injuries he probably won’t play much, he is much too slow a foot to play forward, in fact he’ll struggle to guard some of the smaller faster centers in the AE. Again that’s not from recruiting sites that’s from first or second hand knowledge. If the kid develops he could be a very good player, for this year he gives you a big body to bang and 5 fouls at the center spot, nothing wrong with that, in fact it’s a very good thing to have depth As for Iati, Albany recruits do not take up much time on the Siena site, I certainly don’t remember anyone criticizing the signing of Iati, he is a good player for the AE. Of course that doesn’t mean a poster or two didn’t make a negative comment on Iati. Personally I thought he was a perfect fit for Albany
