  1. If bingo had not lost to vermont @home & hartford had not lost to brook @home last saturday, and we do beat brook this saturday; brook would not even be in the tournament. Now we may have to beat brook twice at LaVallle. Well, I do not know exactly what the above says about home court advantage, but I hope it bodes well for us as we are most definitely on the road the rest of the way (hopes of a home ncaa very dim now--after terrible loss to $iena). Hopes of ncaa at all getting scary. OT. It is conceivable with an upset or two this saturday, that every AmEast team except UA could end up 2 and 3.
  2. So what's with the eligibility. Anyone know why he will be OK to play for us, but NOT in JUCO. Also, if he was declared ineligible for the entire year, doesn't that mean he (if eligible to play for us) should be considered a freshman? The whole thing seems a bit bizarre; I hope we are not looking for trouble here?????
  3. It was a huge crowd. Suppose to be spring stomp but fire works canceled because of high winds; but free food still offered and many students (old folks too) took advantage. Rain/poured off and on but mostly in 10/15 bursts, otherwise crowd may have been even bigger. I do not know capacity of Fallon field but there did not seem to be many empty seats? Awesome display by Thompsons minus one! Defense is starting to feel it and is making a good effort to compliment the O. UMBC came in second in the conference in scoring--holding them to 10 excellent, and doing a great job getting the ball back to the offense even when we lose face-offs. Also, umbc 0-2 man up.
  4. I think so. For a few dollars more than upper deck but lacking/refusing to pay +1000; I am shooting for lower level immediately to the right or left of the "1000$ seats."
  5. tu/Brown confirmed Page transferring. With the loss of Iati, Black and Guerrier that is a lot of better than average three point shooting. I would have thought Page would have had an "opportunity" to fill that void somewhat? What do you think? and Who do you think will fill it up from the outside next year for us. Obviously it is early and recruits still possible, but someone in-house (Page) might have been a good option. Thoughts and opinions??
  6. I would really hate to lose our Albany identity. I know for a fact that UWM [university of Wisconsin Milwaukee] a +30000 student research university with a world renown medical college , takes it pretty personal when people think they are a branch of Madison {a city less than half the size of Milwaukee}. UWM does not have a football team and competes mid major other sports, but it is every bit as good a school and maybe better than it's "big ten" brother at Madison. Also, New York University or NYU is in a "small" downstate city near New Jersey that competes DIII athletically. I want Albany in our name somehow and I think people will find us. Duke knows where we are, and a lot of people in Australia do too.
  7. I must be missing something on this thread? Why would we want to be the "University of New York"; without adding @Albany (or something similar)? How would we be perceived and recognized as different from Buffalo, brook, bingo or even Brockport for that matter?? How would a recruit from California or Georgia know who the heck we even are????????
  8. Awesome game. I was on the edge of my seat the entire fourth gtr (actually the entire game) especially the last two minutes. TU said Eich picked up a ground ball and went the length for the winner; but it was actually a bullet pass from Riorden after a save that set up the winner. I am surprised he was not awarded an assist, but I am often confused about the assist rules in Lacrosse. I think to get an at large bid we'd have to win the regular season AE title and the semi-final tournament game. Then if we got upset in the champ. game, I think the selection committee would be hard pressed to keep us out.
  9. You are right, and I admit that I was part of the problem in recent years by not going to enough home games. Hearing Trimboli talk about how crowd and fan support lured him to UVM made me realize how important it is for me to support the team and go to the games in person. The attendance may have been skewed in Vermont's favor during Trimboli's time while we were in our infancy. The last two years I think we've had better attendance than Vermont and been at the top or near the top in attendance in the conference. I'd like more fans there too but I don't think our numbers have been as bad as they're made out to be. At least by AE standards. I agree with DP that our attendance has not been as bad as some say. Sure more would be great and I believe we our making good progress in that regards. I would also like to second MsGDG "I must say though that I do think Brian Rudolph has been great and hope he doesn't get jaded with the lack of enthusiasm around him." I would also like to add that I think Charlie Voelker is a very hard working asst. AD and I wonder if he is funded to an appropriate level { ie: what comes first a larger marketing budget or more attendance and increased funding--sort of a chicken/egg function}. Also just to throw it out there and not to kick a dead horse but--what do you think a $iena game @ SEFCU would due for our home avg. attendance.
  10. Well written piece...good read and puts eloquently into words what many here are thinking. I agree 100%. THREE CHEERS for Mr. Anderson.
  11. I think the bottom line is the NORTHEAST needs to do something with football. There is a real need and an opportunity, both in the name of economy of travel and history of program. To let Maine, New Hampshire and others and yes Albany and Stonybrook (even though much of their histories are sub DI) go south or midwest would be a crime. I do not know if a northern CAA, or AmEast, or a reborn Yankee Conference is the answer; but if the AD's and presidents do not see the opportunity here they are missing the obvious. An all sports conference with football and non football playing members, but with traditional quality northeast academics is in my opinion a no brainer!
  12. I voted to stay in AE for now and like Patch and some others said, let's see how things pan out. I do not think conference shake ups is done yet. Also, I do not agree that the AE has no vision; and would not be shocked to see them take another look at adding football. I have absolutely NO inside information, but simply can not believe that higher ups in the conference are totally oblivious to what is going on consolidation/expansion/ etc wise in college sports. And for those knocking UMass Lowell; in case you have not noticed they have a team in the final four in hockey, have always had strong teams in whatever conference they were in, and I would not be surprised to see them quickly become very competitive in the AE
  13. OK what happened Saturday? I was at the game and UA seemed to out play Bucknell for most of 3 periods. Then we seemed to totally lose focus and could do nothing right. I know Riorden's injury (anyone know how serious and if he will miss more time?) hurt; but I still do not know/see what caused such a collapse. At one time out the players walked in heads down, dejected as if the game was over; yet there was still plenty of time. Bucknell is good [8-1] but did not seem better than Yale or Umass and certainly not a Syracuse [i know they beat #2 Cornell], but I did not see them do anything that would cause UA to crumble so. I really feel we for whatever reason just could not do anything right the last qtr+. Expert and otherwise thoughts appreciated.
  14. I voted +20 before the season and A+ now. The only thing keeping me from multiple plusses is the loses to "big" three mid season. Win a couple of those and maybe we get a higher seed and I think we win a dance round. On the other hand maybe those loses inspired us to finish strong the way we did and against duke. Awesome A++ (OK an extra plus just because I am so proud of this team).
  15. You are omitting Matt Lassen or is he considered a preferred walk on?
  16. At the selection show gathering, the alumni association talked about getting a bus/buses. Is this only for "developmental officer" [whatever that is] supported tickets? It is suggested season ticket holders make their own arrangements for tickets {stub hub whatever}; but if we do--can we still buy a ride on the alumni bus? Anyone really know what is going on? When we were in Columbus in 07, I do not remember restrictions on the alumni bus, only first come first serve, but I was unable to attend so I may be remembering wrong? Also, Brown said yesterday we could conceivably out number Duke fans by being in Philly. Again, I might be wrong but I interpreted that to mean their were plenty of tickets available?
  17. The looks of disbelieve--good one. I am in that picture but will not admit who I am. But I will say it was a great game and a true TEAM effort. Black did his thing, Iati was clutch, Blake had a traditional 3 point play {even though you can see the disbelieve in the picture}; Puk 6 rebounds to go with his clutch foul shooting [he made the two when it counted most, after scaring us first]; but what about the down under trio. Look at these numbers--a combined 9 bounds, 6 assists, 8 steels, 2 blocks and only two to's. I was so happy for Devlin 6 for 6 shooting, 5 rbs, 1assist, 2 steels included in the ausssies' totals. Johnson and DJ played well defensively and with boise. I hope I did not leave anyone out because truly everyone contributed. After the game, I was under the basket and John Iati (coach-not player) was sitting in what looked like a lounge chair and I said he looked like he had just played 40 minutes. All he could do was smile and shake my hand, I think he was too beat to talk. Masterful coaching by the entire staff.
  18. One of Cuomo's platforms has been school district consolidations, department efficiencies and shrinking government bureaucracy--making New York more business friendly. He has even talked about consolidating SUNY colleges and JR. Colleges. If he strips CNSE from UA he should be declared in the press and otherwise a HYPOCRITE. I am wondering how Schumer and even Obama feel about a prominent Democrat creating a new entity, rather than consolidation, shrinking and making government more efficient. I know Republicans would have a field day [they want to shrink everything governmental]. Also, other than a power grab, what is this move going to cost and HOW is it helping CNSE grow/make money/etc.
  19. It seems to me, if this is true, only one person can fight it--Dr. Robert Jones. I hate to throw a crisis in his lap so soon; but he should be leading the fight against this split. If he came hear knowing about this split, we are doomed and if he is not willing to fight for The University at Albany, we are equally doomed. I do not write well enough to contact him directly and often come across too brusk. If anyone with better skills and tact than I, want to challenge him with the task of saving CNSE and UA, I recommend you do so immediately.
  20. I just discovered the Canisius game is on TW50 (1803hd) tonight [3/11] @ 9:30 for anyone who wants to see how we won.
  21. Can't look past Bryant this saturday. I know they are 0-5, but have proved to be tough for us in the past; and being 0-5 can be either demoralizing or can stimulate a team. So, last saturday how do we lose 22 out of 27 face offs, get beat on ground balls; yet manage to win by one? Anyone have any more details or thoughts on that game?
  22. Could host a game or two in the cbi or cit or maybe even the nit. But let's go north, beat vt., than dance in the big show. AWESOME weekend and to wilkins for what its worth (he must be a bigger idiot than I thought) why wouldn't the students storm the court. I think the story would have been if they DID NOT storm the court.
  23. Article in the tu said Marr through the whole team out of practice Monday. So the players met and then practiced by themselves without coaches. Maybe they should do this more often [just kidding]; they looked like a totally different team yesterday than the team I saw play Yale. Great game and good to see some new goal scorers--Maloney got his career first plus two more, McNally and Haugen got their career first's; and most came at important times in the game. I would set a link to the tu article if I knew how. Someone want to explain how and I will be glad to try; or if a more tech savvy person wants to set the link that would be fine. http://www.timesunion.com/default/article/UAlbany-gets-message-4331119.php
  24. Nobody want to comment on Saturday's loss to Yale?? Was the win at cuse a fluke? We lose one player {albeit our best/second best} and the entire team totally forgets how to play as a team? Our rookie stud goalie has allowed 50 goals in three games; does that not suggest trying someone else? Huber played well @ times last year and has a year of majority. By reports Riccardelli made some spectacular saves in the Cornell scrimmage [unconfirmed though]. The defense has looked good at times and not so other times, but perhaps it is the goalie and not them alone causing our gpg to be 16.6666666........... Anyone know if Miles will be back for umass tomorrow?
