  1. The article about naming the stadium was an all time low for the TU. When the TU should be promoting higher education and helping them raise funds in these tough economic times of higher taxes, higher tuitions, reduced charitable giving by both individuals and businesses; they are making FUN. If anyone has Philips' ear, he should send them a scathing letter DEMANDING an apology.
  2. 96, I did not take you as harsh and as I said I AM thrilled about the football upgrades (stadium, conference, etc.). In fact, Phase 2 & 3 cannot come quick enough for me. I agree we need to "ride hoops/football back". I was just pointing out some financial realities, but I absolutely believe the football upgrades will eventually benefit the University as a whole (athletics, academics, community relations, national prestige, in short in all areas). Thanks for your in sights.
  3. Do not get me wrong, I am thrilled to be going to the CAA. But because of costs and continued cuts in higher education (academics and athletics both), I really believe Albany would have been content with NEC if counter status could have been obtained. They would have been happy to work with a smaller scholly budget and lower transportation that NEC would have over CAA. Also, speaking of Santa, this palace you mention is at least a couple phases away from the "glory stadium" you profess {and this is coming from someone who has been kicking and biting for 40 years to get the thing built}. And while we are making out our Santa wish list [increased schollies, phase 2&3, etc], don't forget other sports needs--better baseball and softball facilities, Sefcu improvements adinfinium, indoor practice facility, need I go on. So, while we are making progress, do not be so quick to think everyone at UA is ecstatic about the CAA.
  4. Paige looks like he bulked up. I think he could be strong contributor this year.
  5. I wouldn't exactly call them homers because I don't believe any of them are affiliated with Bryant. I know Paul d'Latino is the beat guy for the giants and wfan. He's up in Albany for training camp every year. Andy gresh I've seen on Sny a few times as well. They did seem like they wanted to see Bryant win, but as someone who's neutral to both sides they'd probably want to see the underdog win. Not to kick a dead horse; but this was not a local broadcast aka tw3 doing an Albany home game. This was a NEC regional (actually nationally available) game. The announcers on more than one occasion used "WE" need a big play here, with the we being Bryant. I know Albany is only an associate member of the NEC, but we've done nothing but HELP that league and deserve a little more respect. In fact, if it were not for a couple of babies blocking scholarship enhancement (increase the # to at least counter status), I believe Albany would have been happy to stay and would have even further increased that leagues football status.
  6. Watched the game on tw3 and listened on WCDB (NEC announcers were too homey for me--like it or not UA a member {football} for what 8 years or more, they could/should have been a bit less biased) Wind was a factor in all three missed field goals. The first was heading right down the middle and the wind simply carried it right. On the other two misses it seemed the kicker was trying to compensate and did not get a wind assist. The last he just booted it GOOOD! The wind also was a factor in a number of wobbly and some over thrown passes. Good win overall. Some said it looked like Albany did not come to play and thought they would win just by showing up. I have a slightly different opinion; that the coaches and players going in simply gave Bryant too much credit and we at first were not playing with swagger and confidence. We were playing afraid to lose, instead of smash mouth UA football (especially the "O"). The "D" got going first and the offense got at it after the half.
  7. That was pretty pointless. In my opinion instead of making videos, they should be entered in some fallball events.
  8. I believe his omission is not an accident...he is not in the team photo Does anyone know what this means????????
  9. Maybe this post should be under recruiting; but I was looking up something on the 2012-2013 basketball roster and noticed Bruxvoort was NOT listed. Anyone know if this is just an error/oversight? Even if a walk-on or red shirt, they are usually listed??? Also, he does not appear to be in the picture twittered by coach O'Donnell?????
  10. 72 your assessment of the $iena game was right-on. And it looks like they may have corrected some of those faults as they beat brook with (as pound said) no seniors. I saw Traci @ the football game, she has an upper ankle sprain and expects to miss only a week (according to the box score, she actually did appear in one set @ brooks). I would have thought brooks would have a better team than $ien@??? Dunja has a stress factor and I can only guess that Gabby must have some sort of groin injury or back injury based on the wrap she has been wearing.
  11. I was at the game and watched the replay on TW3--so my 2ç. Wyland and especially Bye kept criticsing Fiacchii for a second sub par game. I think they are wrong and the final numbers bare this out. Also, King dropped a wide open touch down pass that would have made the numbers even more impressive. Early on Monmouth's pass rush did give Will some problems, but once the coaches play calling reacted to this and the O-Line stepped up, he was superb if you ask me. The D was outstanding all game and except for a fumbled kick-off, the game would have been even more of a rout. Monmouth's "run game" was short passes and their QBs stats. looked impressive (except for 3 picks) because of this. When you factor in or average in no real run game (53yds I think), he was so what at best. In short, except for a disappointing attendance it was an OUTSTANDING and dominating game, and I do not feel we have to be reserved with out praise for this team. DanesRGreat and "fans of a Great distance", who depend on media for their UA enjoyment/fix, I truly sympathize. Even though I am local I have on at least three occasions ordered Dane Zone only to subsequently cancel for all the reasoned mentioned. Like many of you, I have complained about poor media and poor promoting in general. One blogger was describing a complex procedure how to to get the link up and running and others mentioned checking their download speeds. The casual fan will NOT do these things. While, I know how to check downloads, I did not understand the procedure posted at all and unless one is very tech savy, I doubt most could or would even attempt it. The point being "Fans" whether casual or devote should NOT have to put up with such poor quality and nonsense. TURN THE GAME ON WATCH OR LISTEN. This being said, I think the solution (and I have complained about this many times) is some sort of cooperative program where fans can purchase home and AWAY games from a media outlet. This would allow both local and distant fans to watch/listen to their team of interest. It is totally absurd to have to pay $5.95--$9.95 and to have to go through the registration process every time one want to watch a game. I am not saying the service should be free, but a one time/yearly fee and enrollment for home and away games should be promoted.
  12. Very young team with a lot of injuries. All three senior leaders with major injury issues. In the past we were able to bring in freshman talent who were able to contribute (even dominate) right away. That does not appear to be the case this year. That is not to say the youngsters will not get better; only that at this point, they do not appear to have the skill and talent of previous recruiting classes. This with the injuries could lead to a very long year. Also, for those who were there it appeared to me the public address announcer was not only a "homer", but particularly rude about it. Some of his comments particularly on match point were even hurtful to the Albany girls. Maybe, I am wrong but I have been to many opponent stadiums and fields, and never felt such an unprofessional public address announcer as last night.
  13. I was strongly thinking of going; but now I see that the game is on TW3. I saw Albany's game Sunday vs Hartford and I am afraid this years team could struggle. They really lost a lot from graduation and so far no newbies seem to be stepping up. Our two new setter prospects were benched in favor of Gabby playing out of position (she did a pretty good job actually, but she is no Brooke Stanley--but than again who is.) Anyhow, I am still undecided and I am curious bob, pound and others if you are actually going or not?
  14. On the lax power forum a blog stated we would not be in any fall ball events because it would allow us "more spring games/scrimmages." A responder wrote: " I was wondering the same thing! If it is a conscious effort to eliminate the hype from this Summer and direct focus back to the field, I applaude it." Another commented about the apparent "blackout" of information. I have three questions if anyone is willing to answer: 1. Does no fall ball really = more spring games/scrimmages? 2. With all the changes--shot clock, face off rules, etc, isn't it important to be involved this fall (many schools are in two or even three events)? 3. What was the "hype" from this summer and why is it like pulling teeth (as uofalbany commented) to get any information about men's lacrosse?????????????
  15. I was looking at the "Fall Ball" schedule on Lax Power and did NOT see anything for the UA men. The women appear to be in two events. I know the Lax Power schedule is tentative and in flux. Anyone know if the men WILL be participating in any fall ball events. With all the new "speed of the game" changes and experiments going on, it would seem important to be involved.
  16. Samantha Brostrom playing minimal minutes lately. Does anyone one know if it is injury related???
  17. Iati is a GREAT addition to the staff; but with the loss of Brent, who is going to coach the "Bigs"?
  18. I think the announced attendance may have been even understated--looked like more. Also, most stayed for the whole game. In the past even when the weather good, there always seemed to be a mass exodus @ the half; but no so last night. Team looked awesome! Except for a couple deep completions by Colgate, the score may have been even more one sided. On UA's only deep pass, Cole appeared to be pushed, but no call was made--perhaps the zebra thought it was an un-catchable (anybody else see/notice this play?). I know there is another thread concerning the radio broadcast, but since I was at the game I'll add my 2ç hear. I watched the fireworks from the Dutch parking lot (which by the way is really the best vantage point--I've seen the last several fireworks from there) and I listened to some sort of post game talk/show after my walk from the field to Dutch. I do not know what transpired immediately after the game since I was walking to Dutch, but the two students I heard at this point were I am afraid to say awful. I know they are only students and have much to learn and are probably disappointed about being relegated to some sort of backup role; but they really do need to get their act together--much too much stuttering and interrupting each other. I hate to be critical, because being at the game, I only heard a brief part of the broadcast , but I've heard WCDB students do broadcast work in the past, and those past announcers were much more coherent and professional sounding (perhaps better organized) than the two I heard last night. Anyhow GREAT night over all.
  19. If we had any "extra" money, I would rather spend it on the new stadium, new score board for Sefcu (and other Sefcu improvements), upgrades for baseball and softball, improvements to the old gym for our outstanding volleyball program (often under appreciated). The list of needs is long and I for one would not spend one nickel on the Giants (and I am a life long Giants fan). From what I've seen over the years and I have been to at least one practice every year since they've been here {have not made it this year and today is the last day}; their value to UA has always been psychological and philosophical but not financial. Where an indoor practice facility would be nice and like many of you say would benefit UA in many ways, there is just too many other needs which should be addressed first. So unless Jerry and the Giants want to fork over some (a lot) of money, I just as soon spend my 2¢ somewhere else.
  20. We have had enormous success the past few years. Took some big graduation hits 2011. 2012 roster is listed and a lot of freshman with impressive looking bios. Anyone in the know--which freshman do you feel will have an impact? What is the buzz for the season?
  21. Props to commissioner Huchthausen. [see Singelais blog (good job to Mark also)]. She instructed BU to explain to their students and athletes why they were championship ineligible. The rule in place since 2005 was approved unanimously by all nine america east members including BU. Ms. Huchthausen in replying to petitions from BU athletes and students requested BU to inform these petitioners that they (BU) were and are well aware of the the rule and its consequences and to instruct it athletes accordingly. She continues it is NOT the America East's responsibility to provide an excuse for BU's decision to leave the conference. "It’s not the duty of the remaining schools to relieve an institution’s responsibility for its decision.” I THINK I AM GOING TO LIKE THE NEW COMMISH.
  22. I agree with Phoenix that the number of athletes that transfer each year is far below the number of regular student transfers; and I would suspect the number of athlete transfers by conference has little or no appreciable differences. It seems we have been kicking this topic (the number of transfer out of UA basketball) around for years. But I got a feeling we are no worse than anyone else {I have no facts to prove this} and that it will be an issue for all schools ongoing [and will certainly spike at times of conference alignments and schools adding/subtracting sports and schools adding/subtracting athletic expenditures.] That being said, is Watts gone or not? To where and why? And Why no comment from the athletic department???????????? Also, who is the BIG 2013? If signed why no comment or announcement????????
  23. I have to agree with Phoenix and others, I do not believe UA is lax or negligent with their 2020 proposal. In fact the things the State is asking for in this "program", Albany has been doing for years---It is called Nano College. If any of the four centers knows how the game is played, it is UA. Like some of you, I DO NOT have any inside information, but I firmly believe the State is holding UA hostage because we have been successful (beyond imagination) with nano college. In my opinion, Politics and regional jealousies once again rear their ugly head. In my opinion 2020 is just a fancy new name for "pork" spending and our proposal is probably so much better than the rest, the State powers are dragging their feat and making sure all i's are dotted and and t's are crossed, before declaring us the winner (even though it appears every district is getting something {pork}, no matter how bad their proposal. Remember my comments are my opinions only, and I do NOT profess to have any insider or otherwise information. In fact, I could never figure out this State government and how it works (except money seems to talk and flows downstate); so have a good laugh at my theories if you wish.
  24. He's on the freakin Dominican Republic's national team that missed this year's Olympics by one game! And if you seriously don't think he's ready for the pros "at any level" then I'm not sure anything anybody says to you is going to affect your opinion of him. Not being drafted by an NBA team =/= not being able to play professionally at any level. He barely played for a team that barely made the Olympics and a team that lost to Nigeria (a real power--YES). But I am NOT basing my position on these points; but on the fact that I saw him play more than 20 times this past year. I made my comments and formulated (as you say) my unchanging opinion not on his "olympic" experience but on what I saw at UA. I also did not say he would never play pro (even though I suspect strongly that he will never play in the nba), I only said another year at UA would have helped him A LOT. I'm not sure you actually read my post..or your own for that matter. 1) He did not make the Olympics. His team missed it by one game. 2) Is the 12th man on the US' national team going to be embarrassing his school because he 'barely' plays? 3) How many times have you seen the current Nigerian national team play? They're one of only 12 teams in the world that made this year's Olympics. 4) I never said you said he'd never play pro. I quoted your post saying that he "was no way ready for the pro's (at any level)." I pointed out that there's a HUGE difference between not being selected in the NBA draft (or even having a realistic future in the NBA..which I think most posters, including myself, would agree with) and not being ready for the pros "at any level." Do you know how many levels of pro ball there are? Look just down the street at the Albany Legends. Their roster has guys who were DI and DII role players. You don't think a top 10 DI scorer in the nation could play at that pro level? I get that you're disappointed he left..I am too..but that's no reason to bash him and ignore the talent he has or the impressive year he had with UAlbany. Phoenix, My intent is NOT to get in a pissing match with you, nor to bash Suero. But when I said "barely" made the Olympics I was being factious--I obviously know DR lost the qualifying game; and for being disappointed I said it when he announced and I am saying it still now, I am disappointed for the kid, not for UA and not for me. AS for levels of the pro's, I go way back to Patron games at the old Washington Armoury and have followed the exploits of UA players overseas; and in my opinion (you are certainly welcome to yours) another year at UA would really have helped Suero. I do not think this is bashing and anyone who saw him last year knows he is a talent, but also knows he has much game to work on.
