  1. Personally, I have found the game times annoying. I like 1pm starts. The 3 pm starts make it tough to get dinner at a reasonable hour. The night games are not bad and easier during hotter weather. Maybe they do it to encourage tailgating and for travel purposes? There's always the TV time slot element too for those games that involve ESPN3 or another network. I live about 30-35 min north so my travel is not much of an issue.
  2. They just said Cornell was 24-8 on face offs. There were also some lazy passes/catches that stood out. Maybe the tourney folks should reconsider the seeding? A little late for that.
  3. 15-2 at the half. Either the UMBC face off guy isn't very good or the UA guys are improving. Doing very well at the X.
  4. Can't find anything about Aaron, but reports say Jafar was released from his RMU scholarship earlier this year and was reportedly transferring to ???
  5. It's blacked out on ESPN3 in the Albany area but Time Warner Sports is carrying it.
  6. It was hard to tell but I don't imagine there were more than a few hundred. Julie Forster and family were sitting in front of us cheering on her brother. Coach G plopped down in a seat about 8' from us and chatted with an acquaintance for a good bit of the first half. The OC and DC were apparently running the show until the end when they gave the QBs a crack at a 2 minute (1:45 actually) drill.
  7. Just a few more things from the Spring Game before I forget them. DJ Crook was playing with a brace on his left knee. Nic Ketter appeared to be hobbling about the side line in street clothes. Kalief Joyner was listed on the O-Line when previously they showed him as a TE. The defense was hitting very hard and there was even a personal foul for a late hit out of bounds. The receivers for the most part held on after crunching hits over the middle. The QBs all had a pretty quick step up when trying to run, but since they were playing "one hand touch" to tackle the QB there were some potential runs that never happened.
  8. I was at the Spring game and here's the takeaways for me: We have the best group of wideouts for UA ever. Gontarek, Harris, Crockett, Roberson and Neverdon. At RB Martin and Croskey could get it done (and there's 2 great Frosh we haven't seen). At QB, it looks like it's Crook and Brunson. None of the others showed too much but they were playing with 2nd and 3rd teams, plus the wind got be pretty bad after a bit. Crook looks polished and has great feet. Brunson looks to be a threat to run and has a rocket arm. If he can get some pounds on and retain his quickness….look out! On defense, it's going to be fun watching Traore and Griffen for the next 4 years. Great day at BFF.
  9. http://www.troyrecord.com/sports/20150416/spring-football-ualbany-offensive-line-looks-for-better-production Not really on topic, but these are the guys that will go a long way to deciding how well the QBs do. I was thinking before that the O-Line was going to be a team strength and this reaffirms that. And big thanks to Laura Amato at the Troy Record!
  10. I was getting that impression too. With the lack of success at the FO perhaps that was a better strategy.
  11. I'm fairly new at paying attention to LAX so it doesn't come from any expertise. From what I have seen there is certainly less "magic" than last year and the other two Thompson's absence is obvious. Last year there were three players who were connected in a way that was almost mystical. They were of one mind. This year there is just Lyle and some very talented newbies…but there isn't that same connection. Over the last several years of noticing LAX it's apparent UA is run and gun and let's hope the FOs and the defense can keep the offense in the game. It's the team personality. With any luck they can attract a first rate FO player. I think after the last several years I am sort of starting to understand what's going on!
  12. Could the FO guy be any worse? I know he's playing against a good one but holy cow! Thank goodness for our own LT!
  13. You know 1A is gone now, right? There's a big chunk of "shovel ready" level ground on the SE corner of Harriman. I was working in 8A when it came down (yes, that was Tax DaneRGood…but I'm recently retired so…).
  14. Good articles. It brings up a point that I don't know too much about. Scholarship numbers are limited, of course. When athletes are recruited are there guarantees of scholarships at the time they are recruited or sign their letters? Or are the scholarships doled out on the basis of competition and play performance? It would seem that a highly sought after recruit would have to be coming in with the scholarship locked up. Maybe it comes down to Will graduating and his scholarship at QB opening up and only one of the new QBs will get one (or a full ride). Anybody know more about how the process works at UA's level or above?
  15. http://www.buffalonews.com/sports/boys-basketball/canisius-hangs-tough-to-win-get-to-federation-class-a-final-20150327 In this interview the Canisius coach refers to Joe Cremo as "maybe the best HS player they've ever seen"….gotta love that!!
  16. Cremo and Scotia lost in Federation Tourney today at SEFCU. 68-63 in OT. Cremo had 28 and Scotia had foul trouble most of the game according to reports.
  17. Hey, I have a Math degree from UA!! Wait, let me get my calculator….
  18. Paul Hewitt had success at LCC, a substantial amount of success at GT and then a lot of success at GM when they were in the CAA. Then in the A-10 they (he) tanked. That has to give anyone pause since a conference upgrade should give a coach some leeway for building up to the level. On the other hand there comes a time when it's "show me the money" and doubling salary for 4-5 years can be a balm for worries. I hope he stays too, but our reality is that salary is limited and we are a mid-major in the lower rank of conferences, saddled with a controlling state university system and a lack of deep pocket boosters. It is what it is. But hey, the guy at VT (Brennan?) stayed there forever.
