Gameday Stories
UA66 replied to Dane Pound's topic in Fall Sports-Football, Soccer, Volleyball, Cross-Country, Field Hockey
Is Watson still on the team? Didn't notice his name on the roster. -
I'm going to try and make it over a game if I can combine it with some other event - got to make these trips from Mass. cost effective until gas falls to $1.25 again (in my dreams). Haven't seen the FH team play recently so I don't know how good this team is. I watched a match when we had just moved up to D1 and it seemed pretty tame compared to a match I witnessed a few years before at U. Maryland. Maryland was playing UNC and the game was brutal. I never saw so many young women so covered with bandages, braces, and other medical remedial material. At least one was carried from the field on a stretcher.

What a dissapointment
UA66 replied to Ruler's topic in Fall Sports-Football, Soccer, Volleyball, Cross-Country, Field Hockey
You're absolutely right, Ruler. I was thinking the same thing, but just like everyone else I didn't get off square one until now. Part of the problem is that many of us quickly got spoiled by the success of other programs. The recent mediocrity of the football team's record (not the effort) has made it difficult to start jumping up and down about the upcoming season. Nevertheless, I plan to attend at least all of the home games. I did see part of one practice. Here's what I think. The schedule will preclude a great season. We are, as usual, stepping up beyond our talent level. Wins at Lehigh, Delaware and probably Cornell are still out of our reach. I don't think those games will be big blowouts as were the UMass And Maine games last year. The reason is our defense. The D looked great in the practice that I saw. The offense, on the other hand, looked weak and a little disorganized (I still don't like the no-huddle offense). So early in the season, we'll struggle on offense until the O gets it together. I just hope it doesn't take as long as last year. The defense will keep games closer than expected but they will still be losses. I predict 7-4 at best. -
Kurt Campbell update
UA66 replied to danefan's topic in Fall Sports-Football, Soccer, Volleyball, Cross-Country, Field Hockey
According to game stats, Campbell did play, but was credited with no tackles or assists. -
Dang it! Then I guess I won't point out that you are the guy next to Dane Pound in the picture. I failed to mention that I had already graduated.
-
Dane Pound, is that you, second row, far left?

Thanks Reeder for asking the questions that were on the minds of many of us, and thanks Patch for giving us the answers. I particularly agree with you on the statement about Dr. Hall. He will be impossible to replace but everyone of us alums must do what we can to KEEP THE VISION ALIVE!

Keep the vision alive!

In the near 50 years that I've been around the University, I've never seen anyone come in and have such a huge impact in such a short time as has President Hall. He was a true genius and a wonderful person. His loss is incomprehensible. My heart goes out to hsi family and to the entire University community.

Son of a gun. The very first picture I looked at was ol' Bernie Boggs. The first outstanding running back in the program. He was a transfer from Temple and brought some excitement right from day one of the program. I still remember that 150 yard run (about 60 linear yards if memory serves me) in the game against Loudonville High played at Mount Pleasant in Schnectady.

Steve, see Patch's notes on the previous page. My comment was meant to be half-serious. However, after thinking about the situation overnight, I now find it most disturbing, particularly the question "Do you want me to dig further?" I'm not a legal scholar but it seems that this is bordering on stalking. I thought about it in the context of "would I want some moron digging into the details of my wife and daughter's life and then putting it up on a publicly available website?", apparently with the blessing of the moderator. I think not.
-
Sounds like someone over on the Loudonvile board is intent on stalking the woman who wrote the letter to the TU. Do I smell legal action? Seems like Disingenuous One who moderates the board over there could also be charged as an accomplice by allowing the disclosure of this woman's personal info in the context in which it was presented.

You beat me to the punch Patch. I was just wondering why anyone would go to the TUC and listen to the echoes when they can go to the RACC for big time basketball and get caught up in the frenzy of a raucus atmosphere.

Keep in mind that you were reading from his personal journal. He is writing about his life, much as one would in a diary or daily journal. Nevertheless, I thought he made numerous references to teamates and the importance the NCAA tournament had in acheiving recognition for the University. He is very conscious of how the basketball program relates to the University. Just look at the way he leads the team over to the fans after a game to thank them for their support. Look at that picture of him on the athletic site with the Special Olympic kids and read his comments about that experience. Jamar is not just about himself, though he has a lot to be proud of and a lot to brag about if he chose to do so.

All good choices. I'd only add the Albany lax victory over UMass (the institution at which I have been employed for the past 29 years), making it 3 in a row against the team that finished as runner-up for the national title. UMass will always be a distant second re my allegiance.

Former UAlbany pitcher is off to very good start for the Rockford Riverhawks of the Pioneer League. Has pitched in 5 games so far, all in relief, and is one of the league leaders in pitching stats: League Leaders Player Team W-L ERA IP H BB SO Dessau, Erik GWY 2-0 0.00 14.00 9 3 14 Cunningham, Perry CHC 2-0 0.66 14.00 12 2 5 Kohorst, Pat WSH 2-0 0.90 10.00 6 3 5 Kroft, Adam RCK 2-0 0.96 9.00 5 2 5

Here's the truth as spoken by Siena Tony
UA66 replied to Patch's topic in Winter Sports-Danes Hoops, Track
Dog71 and Patch both bring up valid concerns regarding this tournament, mainly that it is too little too late. Those issues concern me too, but what I still have not seen is how this breaks down financially for all participants. This is a MAAC tournament. So, do they control the receipts, and how are those receipts to be distributed to the participants? How can anyone agree to play in this thing if something as basic as that has yet to be detailed? -

Interestingly, I only referred to him as "the disingenuous one" and he responded. I think he understands. -

Obviously the disingenuous one is not a fan of the First Amendment. -
I haven't yet seen any discussion of the financial arrangements for the teams that participate, so I am reserving judgement until all of the details are on the table. It seems so far that the organizers are riding by the seat of their pants.

Wow Dane 96. You took the words right out of my mouth, Regarding the used car saleman and his suggestion we need to "upgrade" our schedule, I guess he considers Florida and UCLA chump change.
