Edwin Ubiles Suspended from LCC

Recommended Posts

Guys don't blow this out of proportion. The kid is in on indefinite suspension. That means he's had some problems regarding attending class or getting classwork done. He is seemingly academically eligible by NCAA standards or the suspension wouldn't be indefinite.

I for one wish the best for Ubiles and I hope he straightens himself out academically and gets the job done.

I would always want to play an opponent at their full strength otherwise the game is meaningless win or lose. The purpose of out of conference games is to get ready for the conference so lets play all our opponents at their full strength.

To be honest I don't even think this is a topic we should broach - but that's just my stance.

I agree with you that the purpose of the OOC schedule is to prepare for the conference season, but I disagree that the game is meaningless if an opponent is not at full strength. Yes it may be less beneficial to beat a team at less than full strength , but it does mean something. Not to mention that whether an opponent is at full strength or not is not in our control, so it is not something we can worry about. Like I said before, I worry rather worry about the AE than Siena.

All that matters to me with Siena is that they don't do as well as us overall and that their fans have something to complain about in March.

This is a tough break for Siena. Not that we should be shedding any tears but I hope we show some class and refrain from pilling on. It didn't feel great when they kept falling all over themselves to slam us over the transfers last year, so I'll refrain from jumping on the slam Siena band wagon. I've learned that these things happen no matter who you are and there is a chance it might happen to us at some point in the future. I for one, understand they must be very disappointed and hopefully they still have a strong season, but our chances of beating them just improved. Make no bones about it, this is a huge loss for them.

Nice post. You really have to take many of the Siena posters with a grain of salt. I look forward to a healthy rivalry between the two programs.

bob,

You are well within your right to take their fans to task, but in doing so keep in mind that you talking about a young man who undoubtedly is going through a rough patch. No doubt, of his own doing but still! I'm of the opinion that it benefits us to have two strong teams in the capital region, you might disagree, I don't know. No doubt a number of their fans, Tony, mr.siena (the old codger) as well as others were falling over themselves in slamming our school, coaches and student athletes. Thread...after thread....after thread, I simply chose not to retaliate in kind, knowing that this could potentially happen to us, then we'll be wearing the egg on our face as they are now. I think we are more classy then some of them.

Again, you are within your right to act as you please.

Peace

I have said nothing against Ubiles. I am not rooting against him per se. Nor does it bother me that he is academically suspended. I root against Siena primarily because of the obnoxious fan base that said all their crap about Albany would never be the d1 team Siena was starting at least in 99 when we went d1.

As far as 2 strong teams in the capital district, that is not my concern. I would rather have 1 strong team in the Capital district and 9 strong teams in the AE than 2 strong teams in the Capital district and fewer strong teams in the AE.

BTW, I don't think I have to tell you about the Siena double standard as MTS is already whining about our board when no one here has said anything bad about Ubiles.

Regarding the whining of MTS, I totally agree hence my suggesting that he work on his reading comprehension skills. When he started crying there was absolutely nothing negative posted on our board. Furthermore, even all that has been posted doesn't even begin to approach the "fun" they all had with our recent transfers. I'm simply trying to be the bigger man and not stoop to their level, calling our coaches sieves for trying to win at all cost etc.. There is no question that their fan base is very very obnoxious and as I said previously is now left with egg on their face. I can't wait to see what KnickSaint has to say about this, he after all was the most vocal in slamming our school, coaches and players.

I might have been to cordial in wishing them good luck next season. I've said it before and say it again, I see the benefit of having two strong teams in the capital district but my focus is more on UA and AE then rooting for Siena. I'm actually neutral to their success, I don't wish good or bad on their team. As far as their fans.....(Tony - the penis envy comments, mr.siena the old codger, SaintsFan - the MAAC is the ACC of the north east, KnickSaint - Will Brown is running players out of town...enjoy the egg on your face KS) I have no pity for them. I hope that clarifies it a bit.

MTS, a.k.a. "Empty-S" is the bain of the Siena board's existence. The guy was twice rejected from Siena (fact), yet he has the audacity to post an electronic trail of drivel about a Siena student's academic situation. I find it odd that he's allowed to carry on the way he does.

We all have our crosses to bear.

LOL....nice one alum73

Some very nice posts on this thread. I'm not sure if Coach McCaffery's move is altogether altruistic. My guess is he figured that 6 plus weeks into the semester, if Ubiles didn't apply himself, he would likely be suspended for the second semester. Good smart move to give the kid a chance at academic success and remain eligible.

As for obnoxious fans, I'd have to say that bob87, who clearly suffers from an inferiority complex, pretty much takes the cake. I will never understand why the students/alumni of two schools like Siena and UAlbany would even care enough about the other to get so bitter.

Just got my Blue Ribbon, nice to see UAlbany get such a nice write up despite their losses to graduation. Best of luck this season.

Right that must be it.:rolleyes::rolleyes:

I must say I thoughly enjoyed the countless posts on the siena board on how UA would have finished 7th last season in the maac and the whining about UA seed and niagara's seed.

Folks this is all so very unfortunate....who amongst us would want the whole world to know of our academic foibles/troubles...its true that it comes with the responsibility of accepting a scholarship but..remember these are kids we are talking about...and I respectfully submit that we should wish our friends on the other end of town good luck, and should all hope the kid can get his academic act together and then we Dane fans shold move on and focus our interests squarely upon U-A...I say don't bash Siena...benign neglect is a much better policy...

Strong thread, guys. Well done. There are plenty of excellent, sound Siena posters - they've all posted in this thread. Don't lump everyone on the Siena board into one group. That board is what it is - Tony has his hands full trying to keep the older folks happy.

I've been off of that board for a year and a half - and when Tony made the decision to ban me for good, I understood it - as did he. He told me that the older contigent on that board is unable to handle 100% of the facts surrounding Siena and what Siena is - and he didn't want to deal with the bickering. When I told him I wasn't going to become a shill for Siena just to make the older folks happy, he did what he had to do. Tony made the right decision to get rid of me - as he couldn't jeopardize the relationships he has with those older posters that feed him info and that allow him to have a fairly informative board on what goes on at Siena behind the curtain. Tony's hands are tied when it comes to what direction that board goes in and what type of information - generally only positive information - that is allowed to be posted.

All you need to do is search his board for 'Raffa' and you'll plainly see the double standard the majority of his posters impose.

You guys, aside from a couple, have taken the right point of view in this thread. Even the couple that have complete disdain for Siena is understandable. If the roles were reversed and we were talking about one of your players, you know who would be running with it on the Siena board - like I said, Tony can't keep those guys - the ones that can get him the behind the scenes stuff - muzzled, especially when it comes from their crosstown nemesis.

This stuff happens at every school from time to time - it's just a matter of taking the high road in the event the tables are turned. In my opinion, Fran has done everything right with respect to the situation. Again, good thread.
