Ralph Watts is a 6'6" Wing that can play the one to four according to his AAU Coach Phil Diasparra, who is now taking him on visits.

Ralph Watts

The Peekskill H.S. junior managed to make a name for himself during the past season even though one of his teammates was Syracuse bound Mookie Jones. "He averaged 13 to 14 points even on a team with stars. Now as a rising senior, he should do well," says Diasparra.

Coach Diasparra believes Watts is a "Good kid" and goes on to say, "He's very long and plays good defense plus he works well in a system." With Coach Diasparra's team, the Westchester Hawks, Watts averages 15 points and 6 rebounds.

"Watts is kid that is flying under the radar," says, Diasparra, and he should know. As head coach of the Westchester Hawks, Diasparra has seen Watts up close and personal and has been fielding calls from schools that have been calling about the Peekskill talent.

"I took him on an unofficial visit to Hartford and he got to play with the team. The assistant coaches loved him," says Diasparra. "Watts is solid academically and makes great decisions on the court."

Watts will also be taking an unofficial visit to Fairfield on Wednesday where he will again get a chance to play with the team.

Watts has had additional interest from North Eastern, Albany, Sienna and Binghamton.

Albany adds in-state wing man...

By Van Coleman van@hoopmasters.com

Will Brown and his Albany staff have added a quality in-state talent in 6-6 Ralph Watts...

According to a source close to the Albany program, the Albany Great Danes have struck again this week and have received a commitment from 6-6 195-pound wing man Ralph Watts from Peekskill, NY High.

The versatile wing man can play the 2-4 spots depending on matrch-ups and has a good stroke from the perimeter that sets up dribble drive or pull-up jumper. He averaged 14 points, 7 rebounds, and almost 5 assistsa playing alongside Syracuse signee Mookie Jones, as they led Peekskill to a 30-1 record and the state championship game last winter.

He established himself as a division one prospect over the summer with the Westchester Hawks who he led in scoring over the summer. His versatility will help him see lots of PT as a freshman.

He chose Albany over interest from Fairfield, Hartford, Binghamton, Colgate, and Siens.

From HoopScoop (today)

.......It also looks like 6'6 Ralph Watts from Peekskill (H.S.) NY, who is a jack of all trades out on the perimeter, has picked Albany. Watts has a high basketball IQ, is good at attacking the basket, and has great court vision. But what makes him so valuable is the fact that he also has the speed and quickness necessary to evolve into a great defensive player. Watts also knows how to win, as is evident by the fact his team finished 30-1 this past season and suffered its only loss to Jamesville (Dewitt) NY in the New York State Class A Championship Game. He also averaged 14.0 ppg, 7.0 rpg, 5.0 apg, and 3.0 spg and provided the perfect complement a year ago to Syracuse-bound 6'6 Mookie Jones. The Great Danes beat schools like Hartford, Binghamton, Fairfield, Sacred Heart, Colgate, and Siena for Watt's services. SO they now have three players in the fold in recruiting class, which also includes 6'7 Gavin Glanton from Forrest City (H.S.) AR and 6'10 Jon Puk from Waterloo (West) IA, that is now tied at #43, along with Bowling Green and Illinois State, on our list of the Top Recruiting Classes To-Date for the Class of 2009..........

So with Glanton and Watts committing, are we done for next year assuming no transfers? I realize that may be a big assumption...

NO! We have one more to give and two players from Iowa visiting this weekend (Gabe Knutson and Nate Hutcheson).

Nate Hutcheson is visiting this weekend? Where did you hear that?

It was originally mentioned by b9j in the Gabe Knutson visit thread yesterday...here is the source of the information, look down towards the bottom of the page.

Hopefully we'll get some good news this weekend.

Just guessing but I'd think Watts is the guy that would have been in the Hutcheson spot. They seem to play the same position, big guard or small forward type. Watts looks like a nice player and one we might actually get a look at during the season. Peekskills plays in Albany on occasion and seem to be regulars at the tourney in Glens Falls.

Knutson visiting would still make sense according to Coach Brown's blog. We're still looking for a center/forward to replace Covington.
