I've heard the $60 cost goes to DMV only. If you look for example, UB's http://dmv.ny.gov/col.htm cost more and the additional funds go towards the Alumni Association. Makes sense to go w/ $60 because the cheaper it is the more likely an alum would choose to purchase the specialized plate, which means more UA logos on the road. I'm all for more promotion of the school.
