New Defensive Coordinator is...

...Bob Benson. So it seems. I've watched a couple of their games (school is located next to my sister's office at the Coors HQ in Golden). He was DC at Towson in 2006 and 2007. He was also the former HC at Georgetown for 12 years. He also coached at Hopkins and WPI.

 

Here is the kicker: He's a "FORD GUY". Started his career as a GA under Ford during the 1986 season. He received a Master's from UA. Kind of like that connection, the fact he knows the East Coast, knows Gattuso, knows the MD recruiting area, and also has inroads from many years out in the Rockies (new door for us).

 

Interesting hire. Not a bad one...not a "wow" factor. That said, with Gattuso's background in defense, this hire didn't need to be a Home Run. It's the OC that will be the big hire.

Yup. I would think he may keep a SR. or two who wants to be a GA. Would help stability.

Might bode well for keeping guys like Simpson and Bannagin. I believe Simpson was on the staff when Benson was a GA.

Footballscoop.com reporting that Bernard Clark Jr will join the defensive staff.

 

He's currently Defensive Coordinator at Hampton.

He was the linebackers coach under Wannstadt in Pitt, which I believe is how he knows Gattuso.
