Brandon Perry

Recommended Posts

Brandon Perry is listed at 6'1" 187lbs. That's very good size in the AE.

Coach Brown said he is athletic and can defend the perimeter.

He also can stretch defenses having hit over 180 threes in 2 seasons at Jacksonville College ( I don't believe anyone in the AE came close to hitting 180 threes in the last 2 seasons )which plays in an extrememly tough Region in Texas with the likes of Lon Morriss, San Jacinto, Tyler, Blinn etc....

I wonder how good he really is because playing at that level he has been exposed to many DI coaches because they all recruit from that conference..

How and why did he wind up ay Albany?

Has anyone been able to research anything on Perry? I've checked the Conference site and sure enough the info seems correct and he was an All Region selection avg 15+ppg and shooting 41% from three.

Don't know anything about him, but he only received an offer after Martin decided to transfer. My thought would be had he had another scholarship offer at the D1 level he would have accepted it earlier in the signing process.

I am sure he will be a good player, obviously Brown thought he was the best available player - but if he was going to be more than a role player, he would have probably been signed by another team and not available to Brown.

If Iati goes cold from the perimeter, Perry may be able to step up and nail a few. It would be great if he could provide more than that, but I would be happy with a few clutch 3's.

I agree with your thinking on Perry but............

I'm shocked he was available late.

I wonder what the knock on him was.

In 2 seasons at Jacksonville he hit 180 threes and shot 40%+ from three, those are awesome numbers and he did it in a conference stocked with potential DI players and he was an All Regional selection (one of the top 15 players in a loaded region).

He averaged 20+ppg in HS in Texas and was an All State Selection(5A), which I'm pretty sure is their Highest classification.

I think this kid could be more than a part time contributor, I don't think you bring in another guard especially a JC guard when you have Wilson, Jordan and Iati for the next 2-3 years.

The preseason next fall should be very interesting and very, very competitive.

Shouldn't there have been another scholarship available already? The Hughes scholarship is going to be open next year unless they award it to Q who richly deserves it.

I'm curious about Perry also. There hasn't been much info on him but one thing I saw said he was a good open court player who is very good going to the basket.

At the time they signed him I thought they should have brought in another big guy but I'm sure there were none available that late. At the very least Perry is a nice insurance policy as there are really only the 3 proven guards Patch mentioned. At best he'll push Wilson, Iati and Jordan and we'll have a nightmare backcourt for other teams to stop.

Alot of JUCO coaches don't let kid's sign until the late signing period. Perry played in one of the best JUCO leagues in the country and hit a ton of threes. From what I've read and heard he had several other DI offers. Four or five?

I don't think the coaches would have signed a JUCO guard if they did not plan on playing him alot! The kid is a specialist from 3!

I agree with you wholeheartedly that I don't think the staff brought in a JC Guard to sit the bench for 2 years.

With Lucious playing the 3 alot I can see a 4 guard rotation next season, especially if we rebound well with Zoellner and Dyson at the 5. Hopefully we will play more uptempo - I want to see Jamar on the fly alot. He's awesome finishing on the break and Lucious attacks the basket well also.

Outside of winning, seeing that team run and score a bit will put some fans in the seats. I'm really looking forward to this season. It would seem that Coach Brown has unlimited options and what type of lineup he could put on the floor. This year will give a real look on his floor/rotation ability.

Do we know that Hughes is definitely gone?

I see no one has touched this question so I guess there is no answer yet. I assumed Hughes was gone in the spring when he went home again. Maybe if the coaching staff is planning on him returning they've held that other scholarship.
