  1. Some very good points 66. While I may have some reservations about the site like those mentioned I don't have any about Jamar. He was the guy who very publicly took the blame during the poor start in the OOC games in the fall. More than he really needed to as far as I thought.
  2. The year isn't quite over with Pollozi and Green competeing in California but I thought I'd post my top 10 moments of the last year so far. 10. (Tie) Admittedly watching my first MLS game ever to see Bouna Coundoul. Watching UA recuit Mike Yocum on ESPN. 9. Football's big win over Fordham. Granted Fordham was down this year but still a good win. My enjoyment was augmented by the Fordham message boards guarantee of a Rams win. 8. The AE Tourney in Bing. Surprised myself by having a good time there. Helped by the fact that we lived to the second day of the tournament for the first time. Bing losing to Vermont helped quite a bit too. 7. Lax knocking Stony Brook out of the AE playoffs. Judged by the sucess of the past few years not the best season but not all bad when you take out the Seawolves. 6. Volleyball's win over Syracuse. Televised, very good crowd and a dramatic victory. Fun thing to be a part of. 5. The VCU Game. Granted this was a loss and on the road so I watched it at the Pub. The turnout there and the energy were enough to think we were on to something good. 4. Siggers shot to beat Bing on the road. You can argue the Siena win was a bigger regular season game but this was for first place and was as sweet a win as I can remember. I've never seen a building empty as fast as the Events Center did that day. 3. Will Brown getting a new contract. 2. The UConn game. Amazing week leading up to the game and quite a performance once the game started. I got home to find phone messages and emails from friends and alumni around the country who'd watched the game. 1. Beating Vermont for the AE Championship. I'm including the previous days Browntown hype and fun. We got to campus early that morning and ran into Alumni 92 and company. The fun started then and went on all day. Considering how empty the RACC had been for games just a couple of years ago to see that scene was incredible. After the nets were cut down my wife handed me the cellphone and said "just call me and let me know at which bar I need to pick you up." Eight hours later or so I made the call.
  3. The last holdover from Mari Warner. Assistant Jim Brunelli is leaving for a position at Akron. Sorry to see him go although it's a good opportunity. I believe the women will have two new assistant positions to fill for next year.
  4. His team lost the other night but he's fourth in MLS in shutouts after five starts. This is from the Galaxy's annoucer blog. Tutino's Take: Done in by Bouna By Joe Tutino / LAGalaxy.com Bouna Time?! Who is this guy? No he's not Eddie Murphy's character on the train scene from Trading Places. He's the guy who laid another goose egg on the Galaxy score sheet, that's who he is. Crazy ... it is just crazy at this point. Bouna Coundoul from Senegal, the third-string goalkeeper for the Rapids, stoned the Galaxy. Unbelievable! I saw it myself, called the action myself and still can't believe it. And, a Galaxy team record was set for futility: 390 minutes without a goal. That leaves the Galaxy with no wins at home (0-4-1). Yes, the pressure is on. Bouna Coundoul made five saves, or in my view he was assaulted by five Galaxy shots and countless near misses as the defending champs absorbed another setback to the season. To be honest, Bouna positioned himself well on the header from Herculez Gomez in the second half, but is it really Bouna time? Joe Cannon beware; Bouna is going to take your job. "Joe (Cannon) is really, really good. To me, he's the best goalie I've seen so far," Coundoul said. "But like they say, it's Bouna Time now." Bouna Time. Bouna Coundoul was the difference of Saturday's match at the Home Depot Center. He made five saves on the night as the Galaxy offense continued to misfire. Wave upon wave of Galaxy rushes on the Rapids' goal either went wide, high or were gobbled up by the cat from Senegal. Heck, he dove the wrong way on Kyle Martino's attempt in the first half and still got his right paw on Martino's shot. He was nearly sitting on his backside giving away the near post on John Wolyniec's chance in the second half only to have Woly's attempt hit him. After that performance, Coundoul should get combat pay. ''I'm capable of doing big stuff,'' Coundoul said. ''I had confidence in myself and the coaches trusted me. They said, 'Just play the way you've been playing in practice and in reserve games.'" With play like that I hope he has Aflac. Yup, that was a big performance indeed, and now here we are, Galaxy fans, mired in the cellar of the Western Conference with the goats of Chivas USA. Tell those guys to share the hay. THE GOOD... The Galaxy gave a strong effort throughout the match, especially in the second half. Clear chances were created. In the end, the Galaxy did get five shots on frame. Like I've said, it's not the physical effort that is the issue. The boys leave it all on the field. Nobody is mailing it in. "People can not say that we didn't try tonight. If there is anyone in that stadium that thought that the players didn't play their hearts out, then they are crazy," said Galaxy coach Steve Sampson. "It was not a lack of effort tonight; it was a lack of execution. We had so many chances in front of the goal that we should have put away. I think we gave ourselves the best chance to score (Saturday), but the goalkeeper made three phenomenal saves which kept them in the game." If Coundoul were a pinball machine, the Galaxy would have been in the bonus. He was getting lit up so many times he went into 'tilt' mode. I've never seen a goalkeeper cramp up before. Somebody give "Bouna Time" some potassium. The young man dehydrated like it was an August afternoon during a Santa Ana, instead it was a grey May night in the Southland. But cramps or not, Bouna came through for the Rapids when it mattered most.
  5. From PackersNews.com: Campbell back: After the Packers selected him in the seventh round of the 2005 draft, linebacker Kurt Campbell didn’t have much of a chance to show the coaching staff what he was capable of. On Aug. 1, the day before the Packers scrimmaged the Buffalo Bills on Family Night, Campbell tore the anterior cruciate ligament in his right knee in practice. He spent his rookie season on injured reserve. Campbell was cleared to practice Wednesday and said he felt a great deal of excitement and relief to get back on the field. “I knew it was coming, but when the doctor cleared me, I was pretty happy,” Campbell said. “This was a long time coming.” Campbell said he felt no ill effects and said he is just looking forward to getting more work. “Last season was tough, but I learned a lot,” Campbell said. “I feel like I’m a lot further along since I was here and able to watch how it’s done. I can’t wait to show them what I can do.”
  6. No doubt Stanford is a nice home game for Siena. It might even outdraw the Albany game next year. Depending on who the other two games are against the rest of the games aren't bad. I have to admit, with the exception of the Bing I like Niagara's OOC more: Nov 16th Binghamtom Nov 18th Valparaiso Nov 25th Duquesne or Akron Nov 29th @Bona Dec 2nd @UB Dec 9th St John's Dec 16th Akron or Duquesne Dec 23rd @Central Michigan Dec 28th @LaSalle Tourney vs Delaware Dec 29th @LaSalle Tourney vs Holy Cross Dec 30th @LaSalle Tourney vs LaSalle Feb 17th Bracketbuster game at Home
  7. Some pretty hardcore quotes in the Leader Herald story from Moore. Like this one: "When I’m dead, my limits are up. If I die coming across the track, then that’s the fastest I could have ever run in my entire life.” Sounds like Steve Prefontaine.
  8. I don't know the answer to that question. Just a word of caution, like him or dislike him let's not turn this thread into a personal attack on ST.
  9. Speaking of UA track. There's a good feature on Fonda senior and Dane-to-be John Moore in today's paper. Moore Runs 800 in Less
  10. I try to make censorship as fun as possible. There are other ones in there for Bing and Stony Brook depending on what you type.
  11. Hopefully nobody here gets too upset about this stuff. One of the prices of post-season sucess is going to be be people who are jealous of it taking cheap shots at us. I'm surprised at the shot on Yocum's size since ST has to know we've all seen him at the RACC, Bing and Philly.
  12. The schedule isn't out yet but Coach Brown has something is his blog about trouble getting home games for next year. A sign of sucess I guess that people don't look at Albany as an easy W any more.
  13. One of my main grievences with the Pepsi Arena. You pay more for the ticket and can't see the action on the other end of the court very well. I know it's politically incorrect to say this here but the achievements of the rest of the season negated the impact of this game to me. That game and the win over Iona were Siena's Superbowl. They look at it now much like we used to look at this game before we had any chance of postseason play. I'd like to be greedy and have both but if I had to choose I'd take the wins in March over the win in November.
  14. Probably too much to ask for UMass to pull out another upset over Virginia yesterday. If you take this as a "down" year (considering the high standards the lacrosse progam has set for itself) it's still pretty good when you've beaten the national runner-up on the road.
  15. Will Brown has his own site. It's at CoachWillBrown.com
  16. Good story on UA runner Alyssa Lotmore in today's TU. Never Running on Empty
  17. Good to see I could be wrong on so many levels with that one statement. I'm putting myself of double secret probation.
  18. Good story in today's TU about the Danes Tom Hill. Pinstripes would suit Dane fine
  19. Siena's in the preseason NIT next year so if it doesn't happen this year it probably won't until 2008. At least in Albany anyway. Seemed like too many "mid-majors" had the same idea for a tourney at the same time.
  20. For the second year in a row Albany is the only school to put all their spring teams in the conference playoffs.
  21. You never know how things are going to pan out. Looking at the those PG from Chicago mentioned in the Little stories it looks like we are in the mix early for some outstanding players. Hopefully the dividends from the NCAA appearance will come during the early signing period.
  22. I would definetly like to see the concessions improved. It wasn't a great situation with 1500 people there and will get worse and hopefully the crowds will grow this year. I share what 96 posted about expanding the RACC (way down the line) but would like to see seatbacks in the other sections sooner rather than later. I'm guessing the decision was made to put the benches in to cut costs and will haunt us for a while longer. Other than those two things I don't see any major problems. One of the best things about college basketball is the energy the students bring to the game and we certainly get that with an on-campus arena. I wouldn't trade that for the Pepsi.
  23. The last person I remember being banned on that board is Soup.
  24. I don't get the obsession with the Siena Board. It's the Siena Board of course there are different rules. I wouldn't expect it to be fair-nothing in the sports message board world is.
