  1. Not strong enough but tougher than it's been with two teams in the top 20. I thought one of the reasons UMBC was brought in was to raise the profile of the conference in lacrosse.
  2. King will get his sabbatical +. Ryan appointed interim chancellor and possibly a candidate for the permanent job. King given top SUNY rank-TU
  3. Any chance it was Bobby Joshua of Paris JC. His team won the national championship this year. Picture of him here, he's number 44. Joshua team pic
  4. If you attend the lax game you also get a chance to participate in the worlds largest pillow fight. Guiness World Record-Pillow Fight
  5. Thanks for mentioning this 72/74. It was a fun event and the musical performed at the awards ceremony was priceless.
  6. You can add Alyssa Lotmore to that list. She won track performer of the week today after breaking her own school record at the Duke Invitational.
  7. I don't know that it's been announced yet. If I had to guess I'd say if Siena thinks they'll lose this game they will schedule it for 5 a.m. on Thanksgiving morning. Albany fans can buy tickets in advance and will be seated on broken lawn chairs on Broadway and will not be sold beer if they're wearing their school colors.
  8. I remember someone predicting that result at the basketball tourney in Bing this year. What happen to Bing this year? Last year they were young and playing well.
  9. I'd have to think if they won the conference tourney it would get them a better opening round game. If I remember correctly they only seed the top couple of teams out of 16. I forget what Syracuse was seeded last year but it was pretty high. Hopefully a higher RPI would get Albany an "easier" first round game should they make the tournament.
  10. Judging from this story it sounds like he may get more than an 18 month paid sabbatical if awarded this "position." He and Herb Chesborough should write a book. King in line for rare position-TU
  11. Usually no news is good news but in this case any news is probably good news. My question is did he look like a post player, guard, or coaching candidate?
  12. Welcome Scooby-great handle for a lax poster. Agreed Marr has brought great talent into a program with no D1 history and subpar facilities. I think it's more fun to consider what kind of talent he can bring in with a brand new lacrosse stadium and a program that's been ranked and to the tourney a couple of times.
  13. I sent an email also after the tourney which was probably much like the one GoDanesGo sent. I should say from my perspective this isn't a Will Brown vs. Dr. McElroy thing. I really think they have both done a great job at Albany and hope they're here a long time. Admittedly I may have overracted a bit after reading some of the stuff on the Siena board (probably it's intention) and the (hopefully) humorous take on the UPS slogan was the result. Actually using Siena and McCafferty as an example it sounds like UNCG did the same thing with him that AO outlined happening with Brown. They let his contract go until the end and then wanted to offer him an extention. In the meantime he looked around and took the job at Siena. I'm not saying that's what will happen in this case but it's what in part prompted my discussing this. If there is no deal and Brown walked away next year I would have regretted not mentioning it. Statefan mentioned that this whole thread may be detremential to UA and the process. I hope it isn't but he's probably right about trusting McElroy to do the right thing as I have no complaints about what he's done with other sports. It may just be that over the past 5 years everything that could go wrong has gone wrong with the hoop program and I'm just waiting for the next crisis. I believe psychologists call that "defensive pessimism."
  14. I would think the fact that there are high expectations should be enough to commit to Brown. Those expectations didn't exist before he got here, he helped create them.
  15. Why am I not surprised you'd be pulling for a pope with ACC connections? For the conference that has everything, now a papal link. Yikes.
  16. Hopefully you're right Alum92 and it's a done deal. As to Old Dog I don't know how much fan (alumni) support means to the process. It's more to the point that he's earned an extention that we think he should get one. I've been optimistic since I can't see any reason it wouldn't happen but the longer it drags on the more uneasy I feel about.
  17. UALBANY MEN'S LACROSSE RANKED IN USILA NATIONAL TOP 20 FOR FIRST TIME Baltimore, Md. – University at Albany’s men lacrosse team is No. 14 in this week’s GEICO/STX USILA national coaches poll. The Great Danes, who are off to a 5-2 start with three wins against ranked teams, make their first-ever appearance as a Division I program in the United States Intercollegiate Lacrosse Association rankings. UAlbany is also ranked 18th in the latest Inside Lacrosse Media Poll. "One of our goals when I came here was to not only get in the top 20, but be consistently among those teams," said UAlbany coach Scott Marr, whose squad faces the nation’s top-ranked team Johns Hopkins on Tuesday at 3:00 p.m. "This is a reward for all the players’ efforts, but now we have to continue to work to stay there." UAlbany has won three straight games, including last week’s victories over No. 14 Stony Brook and No. 19 Dartmouth. John Hopkins, last year’s national runner-up, improved to 6-0 overall with last Saturday’s 7-5 victory over North Carolina. The Blue Jays, who have been the No. 1 team since the preseason, own the nation’s longest home win streak with 30 consecutive victories at Homewood Field dating back to April 3, 2001. ***************** GEICO/STX USILA Coaches Poll 1. Johns Hopkins, 2. Duke, 3. Virginia, 4. Army, 5. Georgetown, 6. Maryland, 7. Syracuse, 8. Navy, 9. Cornell, 10. Massachusetts, 11. Notre Dame, 12. Dartmouth, 13. Bucknell, 14. UAlbany/, 15. Hobart, 16. Brown, 17. Delaware, 18. Towson, 19. Hofstra, 20. Fairfield.
  18. Unwritten mercy rule in effect. Hopkins 19 Albany 6. Hopefully they'll take it out on Bing Saturday.
  19. Any chance Michigan State changes it's mascot from the Spartan to a cop in riot gear? After their loss last night in the final four they had another riot on the streets in East Lansing. I had a friend who used to teach there and I remember giving him a hard time after the 1999 riots. Last nights events prompted a terrific quote from the school president "If you look at where we'd been and where we are (now), we have made considerable progress," Michigan State president Lou Anna Simon said. Huh? Could they possibly have said that with a straight face? I guess there were only 60 arrests last night compared with 130 in 199 so that is progress.
  20. My wife has commented on his attire throughout the tourney. Is he maybe trying to start a new trend?
  21. Not sure if most of you saw but there was a letter to the editor in today's paper about the lack of coverage for lacrosse in the TU. UAlbany lacrosse worth more coverage-TU Also a story about yesterday's game Thomson leads UAlbany-TU Also a story in Newsday. Sounds like the crowd was pro-Albany. Not a homey feeling
  22. I thought there would be at least one wisecrack about announcing a new coach on April Fools Day. Doesn't anyone over there have a sense of humor?
