  1. I'm sure I don't frequent the ACC boards as much as you so I can't compare but that's a huge number of people. The Syracuse board frequently has hundreds of people online especially those complaning after the loss to Vermont the other night.
  2. I hope Dyson didn't go anywhere. He may alot of learning to do at the D1 level but we haven't had many guys with his dimensions (6'9 250lb). Seems like he could really help against teams like Bing and UMBC that like to bang and foul. I'm not sure about a PG if they are still trying to convert Lillis into that role. That would leave Jamar, Iati, Lillis and Bauman if he gets stronger as possible candidates. Maybe if you could get a super prospect at that position. I'd think maybe a small forward type. BTW, I watched Gordon Kaliber last night for Farliegh sienafaninson. A couple of years ago he supposedly wanted to come to Albany but there wasn't a scholarship open. He was first team all-conference his soph year and looked great scoring 24 against Illinois. Ahh, what might have been.
  3. I agree with your comments about Brown and would very much like to see him get an extention. Doesn't it seem a little early to say McElroy is being slow in the process? It's less than two weeks since the Danes last game. I'd like to think the reason the deal isn't done is because Brown is out on the road recruiting more good players for next year.
  4. Not Jon, but his brother Jacob. His teams leading scorer as a freshman had 25 points in the state playoffs. We already have the jersey with the Iati name on it-why not Jacob too. Jacob Iati
  5. GD84. I set up a group for us on ESPN if you want to join. Just register and fill out your bracket and then join the group Big Purple Fans. Here's a link to the main page. Bracket Challenge
  6. There was something earlier this year about Albany recruiting Alex Zampier from Columbia. Don't know how true that is but it would be nice.
  7. So he's saying Duke gets alot of calls going their way? That's shocking!
  8. As I've done in the past I set up a Big Purple Fans bracket for us on ESPN. I'm going to invite the people from the AE board also but it's mostly a fun thing to see who really knows college basketball. Good Luck. Here's the link-Big Purple Fans Tournament Challenge
  9. Pretty sure it was Klimes who got punched. I thought he and the rest of Vermont did a nice job of keeping their composure and not retaliating. Cheap shot(s) by Barea. I thought Everhart might look at the tape of that after the game and issue a team suspension similar to what Brown did with Levi earlier in the season. I watched the MAAC championship game and enjoyed Bill Rafferty and Jay Bilas broadcast that game. I was hoping they would get the AE game too. Instead we got Jason Williams who must be the kind of self-reference. He's a very good player but I think they might be better off hiring Levi to do the coverage next year. Vermont-Syracuse should be fun. Vermont can put 5 guys on the floor who can shoot the 3 and really other than Mcnamara Syracuse doesn't have alot of outside shooting. I think your right about Coppenrath, he's got to make some shots from the outside because Warrick can probably handle him inside.
  10. It seems to me we've seen so many things go wrong with the basketball program over the past few year that we're anticipating problems before they happen. If this were McElroy's first year I'd wonder what he was doing also but it isn't. He's done a good job getting (and keeping) good coaches in other sports that past few years and hopefully basketball is no exception. We should also remember that Patterson's extention wasn't announced until nearly a month after the season ended.
  11. I'd like to be optimistic for next year too but I don't see it. I like what I saw out of Sanders, Thrower and Mikus but I don't know that it will be enough next year. It's probably timely to point out that the America East has been a much tougher conference on the women's side than on the men's. Since we've joined the women's RPI has been around 15 of the 32 conferences. On the men's side it's been in the 20s although this year it was 15. It's hard to make strides in a more difficult conference especially when you have no D1 tradition. I don't mean to be a Patterson apologist because I really thought this year was going to be big and was somewhat disappointed. Especially after Ayers left. Like AO said we'll find out what she's made of next year. If she gets Albany in to the top half of the league I would consider it a GREAT coaching job.
  12. As a wolf he probably could use a simple "call of the wild" defense. As a Stony Brook fan the jury is more likely to buy mental incompetence.
  13. Maybe they didn't want to reward the 6th place team but this seems very unfair when you go by stats. I really thought Mookie would find a place on the all-conference team as well. Corbitt was probably given this award based on her defense but that's what defensive player of the year award is for. Hutch actually had more steals than Corbitt this year. Plus she scored more points, had more blocks, more rebounds....
  14. As most of you probably noticed we've had a few posts lately from people who appear to have a score to settle with people at the University. I've deleted them but no doubt some of you have read them before I got to them. I'll ask the people who are making the posts to save me the trouble of deleting them by not posting them. For the 1,000th time, this is supposed to be a messge board for UAlbany fans. Not a grevience board for UAlbany staff. It's unfortunate that people have to lose their livelyhood and even worse that people come here to speculate about who it will happen to next. Please have some respect for these people and the job they're doing. No one wants to read about the future of their livelyhood on a sports message board. If you're a long-time poster and you come across one of these posts from a "new" poster you're better of ignoring it since I'll be getting rid of it shortly anyway. Thanks.
  15. The New Hampshire paper has a story about the game today too. Wildcats to tackle Albany in AE quarterfinal-Foster's Online. If I remember right wasn't UNH the team with the speedy point guard that we had trouble with?
  16. There are certainly MAAC schools that are paying $250K so it's not out of the question they could hire Gillen. There are also a ton of these retread name guys who have done diddly at mid-majors. Marachuk is one but there's also Lappas, Rollie Massamino and Bob Hill who was horrible at Fordham just to name a few. They can hire who they want, we'll still have the best coach in the area.
  17. I didn't see what happened either. My concern all season has been that Levi has built a reputation with the officials and gets a T quicker than most players. I've seen other players argue with officials more than him and get away with it. I also thought the Walker "T" was pretty quick too. I don't like the timeout thing from the bench. I actually thought on that play that the ball wasn't in Bing's control when he called the TO. Not that it changed the course of the game.
  18. UAlbany AD fires top men's assistant-TU
  19. I'd like to see Brown get an extention sometime soon also. I do think coaches sometimes use the recruiting angle a bit too much to secure a long term contract but I don't blame them. I'd do the same thing to try and secure my future. I will say this about the contract extention or lack thereof. Probably every party who has ever negototated a contract with someone else has tried to manipulate the media coverage their way. Especially when it comes to labor negotations which is more or less what this is. It happens all the time and I wouldn't read too much into. I do suspect there is more to the Driscoll thing. I don't know if it will come out or not. I'm sorry it had to happen right after one of the best D1 seasons and I'm sorry for Gallagher Driscoll who seemed like a good guy. Hopefully he lands on his feet in a situation that's right for him.
  20. Here's a recap of the J.J. Jumper-Stony Brook mascot incident including photo documentation. This could be a case for Dane96. Did you specialize is mascot law? Free Wolfie
  21. Blurb on Gudmendsen from New Orleans Pro Football site. ALBANY (NY) senior offensive lineman GEIR GUDMUNDSEN has received interest from Buffalo and Cincinnati, as he continues to train with former NFL lineman Billy Ard for his Pro Day
  22. Good point Dane96. It's also one UA employees should keep in mind when they are tempted to come here and gripe about the people they work with. This is not the place for it.
  23. Just got back from Bing. We stayed today and watched the UVM-Bing game but were too beat to watch Maine-Northeastern. We had a bunch of drunken idiots in our hotel going through the halls, shouting and slamming doors from about midnight to 5 AM. Vermont was actually at our hotel so I thought they might lose today if they were as tired as we were. 5) Lilis. I couldn't agree more AO. Seemed like he refused to take a couple of wide open 3s yesterday. I'd love to see him shoot those since we know he can make them. That dunk over Billings was awesome. 7) Zoellner. He'd played hard in the Vermont game a couple weeks ago and I thought he'd bring that same kind of effort yesterday. He really struggled and never caught the ball is postion to do anything with it. Really looked like he worked hard for position a few times early in the game and then didn't get the ball delivered to him and got frustrated. 6) I don't know if he needs more weight or not but he was great. The Bing fans around me (yes I was right among them) were pretty happy when he fouled out as he lit them up. In the story in today's TU they mention that Albany will bring in 3 front court players next year. We know Connelly, Covington and ?. I would have guessed a small forward type but maybe they are bringing in another big guy? I'm sure there will be a ton of discussion about next year's lineup but after watching Brent Wilson develop toward the end of the season it's going to be hard to keep him out of the starting lineup.
