Well, we didn't figure out a way to stop UML but at least we outscored them. Some solid minutes from Costa Anderson except for the last minute or two which were awful. A little smarter and more patient than we were a month ago against. them.

Story from the Record about Skyler Nash - http://www.troyrecord.com/sports/20170129/ncaa-basketball-siena-ualbany-target-beat-cancer-to-continue-career Siena has recently offered Nash. I'm guessing the next step for Patsos is to start dressing like CB Also, we also visited Arizona guard Colten Kresl.

Story about the crazy number JGIII is putting up with two years still left in high school - http://www.timesunion.com/tuplus-sports/article/Glens-Falls-Joe-Girard-III-climbs-Section-II-10891590.php Sounds like he's on a visit to Penn State this weekend. I'm sure it's a nice campus but hopefully he remembers we beat them this year.

Back on track. Thought we might letdown after the Vermont game but a workman like win. CB mentioned the job Campbell did on Ross who went 4-19 tonight. Stire 15 rebounds. I liked the lineup they went with in the second half with Nichols, Cremo, Dallas, Campbell and the Viking in the middle.
-
Attia going out helped open things up in the paint.
-
Campbell starting to realize he can shoot over just about anyone in the lane.

Someone else mentioned Dallas and the ankle injury earlier. He's been banged up to one degree or another all year between that and back problems. I think Cremo sprained his ankle a game or two ago so might be right. I was puzzled by Grayson's minutes in the second half. I actually though Costa Anderson gave us some good minutes in the first half and took some of the pressure off Nichols. Not sure he played again in the second half. Vermont had nearly a week to prepare for us and it showed. They weren't going to let Nichols and Cremo beat them and with Campbell in foul trouble there wasn't much other help. TBH did a nice job on both ends of the floor last night. He really makes them go. I didn't see the end of game stuff but credit to Charles for bringing Nichols back into the huddle. The first introduction to Nichols of the Vermont-Albany game and as usual, it was a rough one.

Wish I could make this trip. Hopefully there is no hangover from the Vermont game and the post-game issues. Still plenty of season left and the two teams ahead of us in the standings (UNH and UMBC) play on Saturday.

Big Purple Growl 2/4 vs Stony Brook
Dane Pound replied to UA'08's topic in Winter Sports-Danes Hoops, Track
That should be vs. Stony Brook, yes? -
Other than generate ratings, I don't really understand.

I've thought that also. If this group can continue to gel this year. The staff was pretty high on Cochran and Lands before their injuries. If they both redshirt this year and join the guys who are already proven it will be a really nice group. I have no information on Andrews. I do remember Ede Eghareva wasn't going to play much during his senor year. He redshirted to preserve the year of eligibility and then transferred to North Carolina A+T without having to sit out a year. Just throwing it out there because it could be a similar situation. I'd like a chance to root for this kid. Cancer diagnosis before his senor year is probably why he's in prep school this year. After Mike Black and David Nichols, another Chicago guard sounds good to me.

That's one of the scary things about them. They just keep bringing guys in and they're all good. I think when we've played well we've been at their level. The difference is, they've been really consistent in every game and we haven't (yet) which isn't unexpected considering our youth. Earlier in the year I would have been afraid Nichols might have turn this into a mano-a-mano battle with TBH. I think he's gotten much better at picking his spots to attack as the season has gone on.

vs. Maine (Sunday 2pm) -- Coaches Cure CF Game
Dane Pound replied to MRSGDG's topic in Winter Sports-Danes Hoops, Track
The thing I've liked over the past three games is Anderson and Charles are coming off the bench and know exactly what they need to do. I forgot to mention Nick Fruscio's three before. That moment was one of the things I love about college basketball. -

First three game winning streak of the season. Take it. Nichols is on another planet right now. Positive signs from both Campbell and Costa Anderson. Both are looking a little more assertive, like they have the coaches trust now. Anderson - 5 points, 3 assists, 2 rebounds, 2 steals in 11 minutes is nice production from the back-up PG spot. I've hoped for a third scorer behind Cremo and Nichols, we're getting a third and fourth scorer right now in Campbell and Travis Charles. Hopefully we got that 10 minute, turnover-filled, non-scoring lapse out of our system today. We can get a way with that against Maine but not against Vermont. -
vs. Binghamton (Thursday 19th)

A couple of things from last night that I didn't have a chance to post before. -Before the game stated, CB called the team over to the bench and talked to them. After that, they all went over to shake hands with some people in the front row. I'm not sure what that was about but I was contrasting it to the "phantom handshakes" at the TUC the night before. -Congrats to CB on win 250. -If Grayson is pissed that he isn't starting he didn't show it on the bench. Maybe the most energetic guy over there. -Can't wait until Campbell goes from trying to fit in to looking to make plays. A couple of times Nichols broke the press and Campbell caught the ball when no one in front of him. He elected to hold it and run the offense instead. -Moving Cremo to guard from SF means he usually has a smaller guy on him now. That makes the 4,759 post moves he has all the more effective. -I've only seen three people who can slow down David Nichols this year. They are: Will Brown, the officials and David Nichols. I had to wonder why Bing kept trying to trap him. He was putting on a show. -Roles seem to be a little more defined now. Hopefully Dallas can come back next week. -Not to look too far into the future but without Dallas playing last night, we won by 19 points and only 2 points and 1 rebound from our senor. -

2017 Schedule
Dane Pound replied to sarge965's topic in Fall Sports-Football, Soccer, Volleyball, Cross-Country, Field Hockey
The Stony Brook game has been the last regular season game since we joined the CAA. I guess no longer. -
If that's optimism that we'll win the next two then I admire it. We've been an adventure sometimes and haven't won three in a row this year. I hope to see Monday's defensive effort become the norm.
-
I didn't realize it yesterday but it was a season high for minutes for Costa Anderson (outside Oneonta) and a season low for minutes for Grayson.
-
Glad to get that first conference win in the books. Five of the next six games are at home. Hopefully we can get something rolling.
-
Through two games maybe. Just a note for those who are already on ESPN3. Maybe crack open another one and watch the Bishop Montgomery (CA) vs. Montverde (FL) (Boys HS Basketball). Cam Healy (signed for 2017) plays for Montverde.
-
Does anyone know what's wrong with ESPN? They're saying we're up 28 points on UMBC. Something must be screwy.
-
Yes! We seem to go into "scramble mode" pretty quickly and end up chasing the ball a lot. I suspect one of the reasons we play that three quarter court press is to slow the other team down so we have less of the shot clock to defend in the half court. I'm hoping this is something that can be taught over time - to work as a unit and rotate to help. It'll be interesting to see if there is a lineup change at some point. I don't know if Campbell played more because Dallas is hurting or because he's playing better but he had one of his strongest outings as a Dane. We lose a little outside shooting but gain rebounding and he is tough to stop when he gets into the lane.
