Spisto going back to Delhi?
alumni '92' replied to Dane Pound's topic in Winter Sports-Danes Hoops, Track
congratulations to Coach Spisto ... class act ... i want to again thank him publicly for his significant efforts in bringing the UA team to our school to meet with the 5th-8th grade classes ... a great event that created lasting, positive memories for our kids ... we'll keep an eye on delhi in the seasons ahead, i'm confident that they are back in good hands ... good luck Mike -
Tonights lacrosse game
alumni '92' replied to Dane Pound's topic in Spring Sports-Baseball, Lacrosse, Softball, Track + Golf
how about those danes! ... conference semis ... 9-8 OT victory on the road vs. umbc ... fun game to listen to on the web link ... payback vs. bing on saturday -
i know that any proposal for AE tournament games hosted by UA in troy would not be perfect, but "much too far away" is a bit of an overstatement (8-10 miles) ... all you need are a few buses and good marketing ... it would have been nice to have seen that facility built on the UA campus, but without "Mr. Brunswick" there would be no such park in the capital district (not to mention a host of other state funded projects in the region) ... approximately 3k fans per night strates that there are many in the area who care about baseball and know where to find troy during the summer months ... go danes

Today's Gazette
alumni '92' replied to UAalum72's topic in Spring Sports-Baseball, Lacrosse, Softball, Track + Golf
unfortunately, the tu blows siena ... call them and they'll tell you, "that is what the market demands" ... i've asked if they applied their hard news coverage to this same philosophy, no response ... during basketball season they have a link/forum for siena basketball, no mention of other programs ... hopefully, with a significant increase in the number of wins for UA in 04-05, the perceived "market demands" will change -
considering the fact that games between the men will almost certainly always be played at the pepsi, the UA athletic dept. should demand that the next meeting between the women be played at the RACC ... if there is not going to be a double header, 5K in attendance would be far more exciting on the UA campus than at the pepsi ... unfortunate that we even have to discuss this as a topic ... head to head meetings and a rotation of venues (at least for the women) should be a given

as always, nice work DP ... thanks

UA hosting a night game(s) at Joseph L. Bruno Stadium would be great news ... first rate facility ... increased community visibilty for the team ... establishing a lasting relationship with rensselaer county/hvcc for more evening/weekend games in the seasons ahead would be great for the program ... it is unfortunate that the field is not closer to the campus to allow for an even more significant connection

$iena game not a double-header?
alumni '92' replied to Dane Pound's topic in Winter Sports-Danes Hoops, Track
the word is that only the men will play on tuesday nov. 23 ... it would be sporting of siena to have agreed to a deal for a game between the women at the RACC ... no luck ... apparently their team lost significant talent this past season ... as stated often on this board, they can't afford to lose one to UA ... disappointing -
courtesy of the stony brook upset of umbc on saturday, the danes can clinch the regular season AE title outright with a win next saturday night (5/1) over bing ... AE Lax Playoff Picture i believe that the link posts an inaccurate time for the game, it should be 7pm ... not a bad year for the team (repeating, etc.), if i recall correctly, there was some talk in this group and on the AE board last year that umbc would come into the America East and clean house ... considering that the AE schedule has the semifinals set for wednesday 5/5, it will (assuming a dane victory) be interesting to see if the UA athletic dept. could/would hold the game under the lights in the hope of bringing out a crowd ... congratulations and good luck to the team next weekend

Brown To Pitt??? Maybe???
alumni '92' replied to professor's topic in Winter Sports-Danes Hoops, Track
hasn't brown already been offered the top assistant position at Pitt once? ... didn't that occur several years ago prior to his arrival at albany? ... hopefully the light at the end of the tunnel that is now becoming a little brighter will keep him and his staff in albany for many seasons to come ... those high winning percenatges on his resume form previous programs may soon include similar numbers from his days in albany -
i know so little about lacrosse, but am i reading it correctly that binghamton, who beat umbc, dropped a game vs. siena (their first win of the season) on tuesday? ... UA fans should hope that they don't drop another to vermont and spoil Dane chances of a regular season title and homefield for the conference tournament ... sports are fun

2005 America East men's tournament
alumni '92' replied to statefan's topic in Winter Sports-Danes Hoops, Track
well, it may not be Albany, but i'm glad to see the event moved out of the dump that is Walter Brown Arena at BU ... shorter drive for dane fans, new facility, no real need for overnight accommodations ... good call ... we'll hope for a few evenings of UA basketball in binghamton come march 2005 -
anyone in the know have credible info on the rehab of the 02-03 AE ROY?
