  1. I watched both games on lax sports network. They are offering a 14 day or month free trial. I am not sure which, as I got emails about both offers; but even without the free bee, they only charge $7.99 per month and you can cancel anytime. No worse than most single game prices. I think they may have our 10/15 scrimmage against hopkins but not sure. Anyhow, a couple of comments in support of fan2018. Reh looked particularly good both passing and shooting. Connor looked to be showing off. Perhaps his Tewaarton snub from last year has him feeling he needs to more demonstative; or perhaps he his just that good! Nanticoke played for the Iroquois team against Israel and against us. Only suited for UA in the first half of our game against Israel. He looked OK, only. Interesting to note, Marr an assistant with the Iroquois National team, coached for them and let Gleason & Thomson run UA. Also, Lyle & Miles did not arrive until almost half time of our game and were pretty much non-factors as UA O pretty much had the ball all day. Irelan (who definitely looked bigger & stronger than last year) and Jones (as 2018 noted) both were awesome {+90% overall my guess.} I thought Sierkieski looked very good in goal. He faced more and tougher shots than did Calarusso. Sierkierski made all the routine stops and a few spectacular ones. He ultimately may be the better goalie, but I am sure the senior will be #1 again. The D really wasn't tested much (scores of 11-4 & 18-7); but looked good when they had the opportunity. The announcers (cuse people I assume) did not think much of our improved D last year or were just unaware? Patterson did get the start when Nanticoke was playing for the opposition; and I assume as 2018 said, will be the fourth attack. But as was said in previous post there are a lot of options for #4 & midfield. 2018 mentions some above and I'd like to add Diamond Davis who has been mentioned for his passing prowess; but showed a deft shot yesterday [twice scoring goals between the goalie & the post with only a pinch of space--I think this is what is called into the 5 hole.] The announcers (cuse biased) had us pegged as a top 5 perhaps, and a chance for our "1st final four" if we get any defense. But our biggest issue maybe finding enough playing time for everyone?
  2. The only game I've seen this year is the nova game. Due to other commitments, I missed the home opener & have not been able to watch much if any of the streamed games. So perhaps I am not the best person to comment, but so far I have NOT seen this O improvement some have mentioned. Even in the nova game, the O was not overly impressive in my opinion. But, I think a very telling stat is that we scored zero points against a team that had been giving up +30 points per game. Likewise, we only allowed two chip shot field goals to a team that had been scoring @ a +35 clip. Same old story: Awesome D--NO O [my 2¢.] "FREE" Testeverde
  3. 10/6 Hill Academy scrimmage canceled. Instead, part of this Sunday(10/1) 3 scrimmages in Syracuse. Two @ dome, one @ ? See http://www.ualbanysports.com for details.
  4. Even if they loose ½ their team to scandal, their bench can probably handle us. This is not a knock on UA; only a comment that the "rich get richer" & "crime pays" in the ncaa. Do not mean to be so pessimistic , just think the ncaa needs a big shake-up. Not to get political but "clean the swamp."
  5. I watched the video on espn3 replay. #58 of nova on our first offensive play definitely grabbed the back of Harris' helmet and gave it a yank and shove. It looked worse live; but that combined with the foot twisting (not sure if it was the same #58); but i do not blame Harris at all for retaliating.
  6. Great Win. But in many respects it was a very bizarre game. We had 4 or 5 pass interference calls on us and from my view live, maybe one was legit {I was hoping espn3 watchers would have more to say on these, but perhaps your view not so good.} I think we had two PIs on nova's tying drive. But the most grievous one was a nova receiver on a post pattern ran through two UA defenders, both of whom could have made the int., yet we got called for the PI. Speaking of post patterns, Brunson just missed Diggs on a deep post and I kept wondering why we never went back to that play to try again? I also thought it bizarre that after Starks made it 6-3 with about 2.5 to go, we "took the points off the board" {usually a no no} and accepted the penalty. It proved to work [sort of], when we got the TD. Personally (and obviously I ain't the coach), I would have taken the points, used the penalty on the kick off to pin nova deep and let the D do it's thing. With our offensive problems inside the 10, we could have easily came away with nothing there (Starks had already missed a chip shot goal earlier & was very lucky to get the point after on the td.) If we had taken the 3 in the bag and pinned nova deep the D would not have played as loose with only a 3 lead, unlike how we did up by 7? Anyhow, my opinion only & food for thought. But what I really stewed all game about, was on Harris's first catch a nova player grabbed Harris' helmet from behind and yanked it forward. Even if it was accidental,{& it certainly looked intentional} is under 'new concussion rules' grounds for ejection. No call was made; but on Harris' next catch something else happened, I did not see what, and Harris got called for a personal foul. Anyone else see the helmet grab earlier??
  7. THIS IS A TOTALLY OFF THE WALL AND ABSURD POST. PLEASE IGNORE OR TOTALLY SKIP IF YOU DESIRE. I MUST HAVE TOO MUCH TIME ON MY HANDS. Anyhow, considering we our out of compliant on "OPPORTUNITIES." We could solve our problem by posting signs on campus, advertising for 97 women in excellent/good academic standing to walk-on and join a varsity women's team of their choice. They would not even have to practice or work a sweat if they so desired. They would only need to attend a requisite # of practices (# sport specific ncaa sanctioned.) They could use the time for studies and tutors would be provided (a small additional expense for graduate assistants would not significantly affect the athletic budget much.) A uniform and laundering service would be provided (another small expense) and they would need to attend the minimum # of homes games required to maintain ncaa participation standards. Since, walk-ons are not required to attend road games, they would be provided the opportunity to travel @ their own expense {car pooling recommended & a list of sleaze (I mean inexpensive) motels would be provided.} And if you think such an ad would generate too much of a response [and I doubt this], or the additional expenses too detrimental, simply post the signs in such remote locations that almost no one see's them. Remember we are only creating an "opportunity." Dictionary definition: " a set of circumstances that makes it possible to do something."
  8. I kind of like the idea of having crew and I think Kikuria's modest start-up budget figures could probably work. But what I do not understand, is even if we did offer the max 20 scholarships (which I agree we would probably not) wouldn't we still need 77 walk-ons to meet our IX requirements. How many typically are needed to make a women's crew team? Also, we must have been out of IX compliance long before tennis was cut. If we are 97 "opportunities " short, even with walk-ons tennis would not put a dent in that amount. Before we got talking about crew, someone mentioned swimming/diving as an option. But I recall (could be wrong), when we gave up swimming as a DIII sport, one of the reasons was our pool was not even ncaa DIII compliant. In fact it would have to be totally replaced; could not even be modified??? Anyone know if this is true and cost estimates to replace??
  9. Slightly OT; but a fabulous read about crewing is : "the Boys in the Boat" by Daniel James Brown. In our case it would have to be "Women" in the boat. It is about the University of Washington's quest for a national championship and a 1936 Olympic gold metal against Hitler's "elite." I also think they have made a movie of the book, but I do not know a release date. There is a PBS special and if you watch or read the book, it would dispel the myth about crew not being a spectator sport. 10,000+ crowding the banks of the Hudson in Poughkeepsie for example.
  10. My opinion (not fact); but I believe Bensen et all knew exactly what they were doing and the ramifications when they canceled tennis. These people are NOT idiots. What they actually did is bought themselves almost two years of evaluation and now three years to rectify. As I said in my long rant earlier, ALL mid majors have these issues and it is a constant juggling match for compliance. I (my opinion) do not look @ this event as a black eye; only another part of the battle to control costs and keep mid major athletics relevant.
  11. The problem with Title IX, is it was never really meant to apply to athletics. It was designed as an academic equality guarantee. Somehow lawyers, the aclu or some other freedom group got it extended to athletics on the "questionable grounds" that college athletics is an integral part of a college education. The problem is the same groups, when it fits their need will claim athletics is NOT an integral part of college experience [especially when it adds to the cost of college {fees etc.}] This leads to the second and probably real problem with Title IX, it does not reflect the issue of revenue and which sports generate revenue and how much of such revenue should/could be used to support the non-revenue generating sports {i.e. most college sports.} So in MY OPINION, the real culprit here is the ncaa who gladly pockets huge sums of money from men's football & basketball while insisting that is NOT what college sports is all about. Now the power conferences if you will, avoid the issue because they make more than enough money to support any number of non revenue generating sports be it men's or women. They do not want to rock the boat or crack the golden egg. The problem of course than rest with the mid majors, DII & DIII schools to figure out a way to spread what little revenue they may be able to generate from sports, to run more sports than they would actually want to have. It is the same issue as unfunded government mandates (which in NY we have many). So before everyone starts throwing darts @ me for being chauvinistic and anti womens' equality; let me reiterate that Title IX is really an issue about money and if college sports really are a necessary part of the college experience or not. Since, I feel college sports are most definitely integral to the college experience; of course equal opportunities for all woman and men should be made available. But some adjustments per cost vs revenue's would also be justified.
  12. Both Burgmasters' and both Eccles' boys have great outside shots. You are right, the position is wide open. I know it is too early to get to excited, but this team could be record setting offensively.
  13. Inside Lacrosse has UA scrimmage against Hill Academy 7pm October 6 & Alumni game the 7th. I'll be out of town on the 6th, but hopefully be back in time to get a early peak @ the 17-18 team. If not back in time hopefully other's can make the game & provide early review.
  14. 3 in the top 100--2017, not bad considering pretty much entire 2016-17 team returning. Also, I agree 2018 may very well shake out higher when all is said & done.
  15. Lax power forum has UA, Hopkins, Richmond & Army @ Du Burns Field, Canton, Md. Sunday 10/15. Looks like an indoor facility. I wonder why indoors and 4 teams in one day?
  16. I think our D, running game, & improved line play with experience gets us to 8. If QB/QBs ever get half as good as coach seems to think they are; better than 8 possible. After yesterday, my vote remains 8 @ most.
  17. I assume you've already communicated this to the athletic department personnel. Let us know when you get a response. I assume there are levels of membership which will include all parking. This should have been communicated with the parking details previously sent. I do not think there is a "level" of membership that includes all parking. If there is, it is way out my strata. The athletic department said they would "look into" providing parking passes for soccer season ticket holders. As I am not interested in soccer, I did not hang around long enough while a couple of former soccer season ticket holders were explaining the issues which caused them to NOT renew. When lacrosse season tickets go on sale I will personally become more involved. Especially the issue of reserved seating, which to me is far more important than how far I have to walk for parking.
  18. Confirmed by TU this am. Season long medical red shirt a POSSIBILITY. See link provided by UA72 under "preseason practice ."
  19. Not to kick a dead horse; but there was a lot of griping at the meet and greet about parking issues and the use of Casey and Sefcu lot. Some GDAC members were questioning why they had to pay for parking for Soccer and Lacrosse, when it was free for football & basketball. Some even mentioned not buying soccer season tickets, even though they had in the past. Also, issues with "reserved" seating @ Casey for soccer and lacrosse were discussed. The issue: season ticket holders for those sports are given seats in the first row; & told that it does not matter that these are the worst seats in the stadium, because seating is NOT reserved for those sports. Then day of the game they sell seats as if they are reserved. I know this seems like a trivial issue, but I witnessed near fights more than once @ lacrosse especially late in the year when UA made its ncaa run, over fans being in the wrong seats. I am told (i do not attend soccer) this has happened there also. The problem also occurs @ Sefcu to a point. I have two isle gold aisle seats and for "big" games have purchased extra seats in the the section (not "reserved") immediately across from me to be near my extra guests; only to be told that section are unassigned seating, even though the tickets are marked specific. I have witnessed this issued at other arenas also, where they are vague about seating. In the ncaa lacrosse quarter finals @ Delaware last spring there were numerous near brawls over questionable seating rules. Anyhow, the issue is/should be easily resolved by making it KNOWN that all seats are reserved {or not} and if reserved assign season ticket holders accordingly or let them choose their own seats. A little COMMUNICATION is really all that is required.
  20. Hanks issue may be more serious than thought? I am pretty sure I heard coach slip, Hanks might be not back this year at all? He said something to the effect the injury is not just physical, but also mental. Said he hoped Hanks would be back for first or second game, but if not he will be a "future" asset. Made comment about proceeding with "next man up" philosophy. Mighty have just been typical coach speak or may be I heard or just understood him wrong, but I got the impression things with Hanks are worse than UA letting on. Anyone else there yesterday hear/sense what I did??????
  21. When I Clicked Here for more information on "Game of the Week," I reached a CAA ad. When I clicked on the link for CBS digital {http://www.collegesportslive.com/start/?} it seemed to want a $9.95/month subscription fee?????????? The CAA ad said FREE. Will/Can we watch without a log-in account??
  22. WOW. Check out the inside lacrosse rating score for Swingruber (85). Nanticoke only rated (80) in 2017.May have to take the short trip to Ballston Spa in the Spring to check him out.
  23. "inside Lacrosse" online does not seem to have any articles about this committed showcase? Anyone know why? They do report on the un-committed showcase?
  24. Thompson Lacrosse Center has a nice ring ONLY if they're going to donate a big chunk of cash. You really think MLL or NLL pay that much. They do not even pay a living wage. Most/ALL must work other jobs. Even with their endorsements, I assume the Thompsons have needs on the reservations more dear to their hearts. Personally I would be please to see a Lacrosse center or upgrade named after them. Donation or not, they were/are very instrumental in putting UA on the Lacrosse map as well as being outstanding representatives to Native American causes!
