Is this the same guy? Why do they say he is class of 2008 here? Chauncey Gilliam, Columbia, Md.: Gilliam, another class of 2008 member, wowed onlookers throughout the camp with his highlight reel dunks and sheer athleticism. At roughly 6-foot-2, 175 pounds, he can play either guard slot, although he has a scorer's mentality. Gilliam's perimeter shot still needs some work, but if he becomes more consistent in that aspect of his game, he could be a high-major recruit. Maybe he is doing a similar thing to Ambrose. Attending Albany this year with financial aid and then next year receiving one of the available basketball scholarships. Since he is eligible academically to play this year (unlike Ambrose as a partial qualifier) he can play for the team. Not sure if that is exactly what is taking place, but it's probably something like that.

The incoming recruit rankings excluded transfers and JC players so that is why you don't see Ross and Knight on there.

Nice! I have to admit I was getting nervous that somehow we were going to be left off the list. Hopefully, the team can live up to these expectations and get back to the NCAA tourney.

I’m so high on this guy, I’m just hoping he stays low and no one better comes knocking on his door. As of right now he has only made a verbal so he can change his mind at any point. Hopefully he will stay committed to us, ultimately I think it will come down to how well we do this season. If we can get another NCAA berth he will be excited to come here and be a part of something great. Otherwise our league doesn’t have that much to offer especially the down year we had last year. Another factor where I think Albany has already helped themselves is bringing in other talented players. I think bringing in guys like Ambrose and James can only help influence Little that this is an up and coming program. Plus don't forget this quote from Coach Will Brown on his website: "We already have a commitment from a wing player from Chicago. We will have two more scholarships available and would like to bring in a pure point guard and a perimeter player that can really score the ball!" I think we can assume the wing player from Chicago is Little. The way I read it Brown seems pretty confident he will live up to his verbal commitment. The pure PG sounds like James and the perimeter player that can score sounds like Ambrose.

For some reason Scout and Rivals don't have any info on Howard Little so I thought I would look at the guys ranked right before and after him to get an idea of what caliber of player he is. I took a look at the 2 guys ranked right ahead of him and the 2 guys right after him. Here is how Scout and Rivals had them rated: #37) Jeff Robinson - 4 stars on Scout, 3 stars on Rivals - Committed to Memphis #38) James Anderson - 4 stars on Scout, 4 stars on Rivals - Offers from Arkansas, Oklahoma State, Baylor, Oklahoma and Kansas #39) Howard Little - no info on either Scout or Rivals - Verbal to Albany #40) Lance Storrs - 3 stars on Scout, 3 stars on Rivals - Committed to Georgia Tech #41) Jordan Crawford - 3 stars on Scout, not listed on Rivals - Offer from Xavier I know the ratings don't really mean that much, but it seems like he is in some pretty good company.

I ran across this article while surfing the web. It speaks very highly of Lee McElroy and what he has done for Albany athletics. But McElroy said the way UAlbany lost to Connecticut--ahead by 12 points in the second half before falling 72-59--has made all the difference. "I've never seen a situation where you lose a game and it has such a positive impact on the institution and our program," he said. Lose that game by 40 points, as 16th-seeded teams like UAlbany frequently do to top seeds in the NCAA tournament, and UAlbany's appearance "wouldn't have had any significance," McElroy said. "No one would have cared. We would have been back to square one." As it is, the program continues to "sizzle" because of the NCAA tournament experience, McElroy said. Gov. I take Tony's prognostications about UAlbany with a grain of salt, and my diet restrictions don't allow for extra sodium. I just remember how he predicted that VCU would "wipe the floor" with UAlbany and that we would be destroyed by UConn. According to scout he played Safety and WR in football (6-1, 190 lbs) http://scout.scout.com/a.z?s=73&p=8&c=1&nid=2393375 I can't really see him turning down a scholarship to play football at Iowa in order to play hoops at Albany. Unless he doesn't want to play football anymore.

I already said that I thought Iona was a better team this year. I just think that if they played Albany it would have been a competitive game. Probably decided by 6-8 points in Iona's favor. I think of a spanking as a 15-20 point loss which I don't think would have been the case. Maybe if Burtt and Soliver were both on fire, which again is unlikely due to their streakiness. Also, how about the fact that Siena beat Iona in their 2nd matchup last year. That must mean that Siena would have spanked Albany last year too. Oh wait, Siena played Albany and only won in OT. Hmmmm.....

I live in Weschester. I went to Ione Prep. I watched Iona pretty much every time I had the chance. I have family that went there and root for Iona against anyone, except Albany. They were a better team this year (Burtt and Soliver are gone, what about next year?), but once you post that they would spank Albany you lose all credibility. Are you really a college basketball fan? Anyway, I think what it really comes down to is that you are pissed off that Albany is going to be on your level (MAAC) sooner rather than later. What does Iona, Siena, Manhattan really have to offer that Albany can't? Albany is an up and coming team and you are pissed about it. Siena had some strong teams in the past and will continue to be a competitive team every year. Do you really think that Albany will never get to that level or beyond in the near future?

I wouldn't mind bringing this guy in. Seems like he would continue to improve the teams overall talent and athletic ability. Scout had him rated as a 3 star recruit coming out of high school.
