  1. I don't see this happening, unless we get paired against some team in the MAAC doing really well. You can't bust a bracket if you aren't playing someone who's in a bracket. (This is assuming we do as well as predicted). It's interesting the program and coach seems to get more respect from everywhere else than from the AD.
  2. I heard that season ticket sales were very good. I didn't hear exactly how many, but assuming the students turn out like they did for the Hofstra football game, it could be close to a sell out and that would be outstanding.
  3. Oct 15. BB scrimmage, 4 PM football game, 7 PM volleyball match. I don't know any details as to time or team split. I'm not 100% the scrimmage is happening. I heard it was a good possibility. I hope it is a reality. I'm watching the website for comfirmation.
  4. Our Men's and Women's cross country teams finished ahead of Siena last weekend, so I think that now makes ups 4-0 vs. our "cross town rival".
  5. Drove by today. Looks like one more strip of turf to go on FH field. Roller was rolling on turf that's already down.
  6. I saw the stadium years ago when I played rugby game there and again at oour bb game with the magnificent 7. Lots of parking and seats. Looks pretty nice.
  7. I have heard this also. Why would a coach stock the program for the fututre when it's clear he has to win this coming year.

  10. Dear Friends, Family, and Alumni, I hope this finds you doing well. Our home tournament was this weekend and there was exciting volleyball played. We opened with Penn, who has been the top program in the Ivy League the past half dozen seasons or so. We won the match 3-1 (30-27, 27-30, 30-22, 30-26). I was happy with how steady we played. We felt that our middles could have some success against them, and they certainly did. Sophomore Ashley Crenshaw had a career-high 16 kills (.406 %), and senior Ashlee Reed also had a big match with 13 kills (.407 %). Junior Ashley DeNeal had a great match picking up 31 digs - which is one of the highest totals in a four game match this season. Our second match was against defending MAAC champions, Iona. We won the match 3-0 (30-28, 30-15, 30-20). Junior Shelby Goldman played her finest match of the season so far with 11 kills and hitting .417. As a team we struggled a little coming out of the gate, but started playing at a fairly high level about mid-way through the first game. The third match was against 30th-ranked Ohio, and was for the tournament championship. There were times that we played as good of volleyball as any team that I've had here has played. But Ohio ended up handing us our first lose since November 2003. The 16 match home winning streak was one of the longest in the nation (interestingly, Ohio tops that list). Scores were 30-21, 22-30, 30-17, 30-18. Shelby Goldman again had a great match with 17 kills and hitting .308. We thought we could give them some trouble with our serving and attacking at the corners - which is an area of vulnerability for them. But the Bobcats gave us very little breathing room with only 13 hitting errors to our 27. Ashley DeNeal played brilliantly all weekend and picked up here second consecutive all-tournament selection. She ended up with 8 aces (.73/game) and 71 digs (6.45/game) for the weekend. Junior Blair Buchanan also made the all-tournament team, averaging 12 assists and 3 digs per game and hitting .413 with 21 kills for the weekend. This is what Ashley DeNeal had to say following the tournament: "Shelby pounded balls, Rico (Eileen Rodriguez) came up with some amazing defensive plays, and Ashley Crenshaw continued to improve her net game. The entire team entered the weekend excited for the opportunity to show off to our home crowd, just how hard we have been working. Knocking off Penn and Iona were both great, and the experience of playing with Ohio is definitely going to make us a better team. I am so excited heading into our next tournament at Virginia so that we can continue to put UAlbany Volleyball on the map." Our next outing is this weekend at the University of Virginia, where we play the host team as well as Appalachian State and Liberty. Thank you again for all of the support! GO DANES!!! 11. I believe what I have read is UB wants to pare back other sports to put more resources ino football, not the other way around. They also wanted to also do hockey which is an area where they could be a factor almost immediately.
  12. It's hard for me to judge the place kicking, as the snaps and holds seemed to be a problem. We were much better than last year, so I'm encouraged. Nice night, nice crowd. It's a month before the next home game. I'm hoping to go to UMass next week. On basketball, I've heard there is significantly more response for season tickets tickets. I'm also going to assume much more interest by the students.
  13. I see we won the game tonight, so we're now 2-0 vs. Siena. We had no saves, so they didn't get through our defense. I haven't seen any field hockey in years, but I'll definitely try to catch a game on the new fields.
  14. That's too bad about Clark. Maybe her injuries from last year are more serious than I thought. I'm hoping some of the front court recruits and red shirts are able to step in and contribute right away. Replacing the whole front court seems a bit overwelming. I think the time has come o update the roster on the web site. Maybe we're in denial.
  15. I think it was called the Ratscallion or something like that. Not here anymore. Was in the Campus Center where all the restaurants/fast food places are now. I think it hit the road near when they upped the drinking age to 21. 9418[/snapback] rathskeller SYLLABICATION: raths·kel·ler PRONUNCIATION: rätsklr, rt-, rth- NOUN: A restaurant or tavern, usually below street level, that serves beer. 16. 09/7/05 Dear Friends, Family, and Alumni of UAlbany Volleyball: I hope this finds you all doing well. The volleyball program has had a great start to the season so far. We opened the season at Seton Hall a week and a half ago with a 3-0 win. First matches of the season are usually a little choppy, and this one certainly was. We wanted to get stronger and try and find our rhythm as the match went along - and we did. To hit .333 as a team in our first match, we were very happy about. Ashley Hunter had a big match with 24 kills and hitting .488. Two nights later we had our home opener against Buffalo. It was an exciting atmosphere as we had tremendous fan support! I was very happy to see how we were able to come back from a fairly big deficit in game three after losing the second and then being strong in the fourth. Ashley Hunter again had a big match with 23 kills and hitting .422. This past weekend we traveled down to San Marcos, Texas. We opened with a fairly easy win against Morgan State where freshmen Kamisha Kellam and Mari Serkowski both saw their first collegiate action. The second match was against defending Southland Conference champion Texas State. This was a big match against a team that doesn't lose on their home court often. We showed a lot of poise at the end of each games and were able to make the plays each time to win. Our passing was tremendous all match and allowed us to run our offense efficiently. On Sunday we played #19 ranked Cal. Game 1 was back-and-forth with neither team leading by more than 2 or 3 points. The game was tied at 28-28 before Cal put it away. Game two the Great Danes fell behind 8-0 behind our poor passing and their strong block before we were able to side-out. We then started clawing our way back, tying the match at 19 and then it was a battle the rest of the game. The match was tied at 28, 29, 30, 31, and 32 before Cal won it on a thundering kill. We had a tough time in Game 3 as frustration sat in on lost opportunities. Ashley Crenshaw had a great weekend in her first significant playing time as a Dane. She has filled in nicely with Hillary White rehabbing an injury she received during the Buffalo match. Ashlee Reed went back to her home in Texas and received All-Tournament honors along with libero Ashley DeNeal. Ashley Hunter and Blair Buchanan were honored by the America East conference with Player of the Week and Setter of the Week awards. We have a big weekend coming up this weekend as Penn, Iona, and Ohio all head into town for the UAlbany Volleyball Classic. Penn has won 3 of the past 4 Ivy League Championships, Iona was a NCAA Tournament team last year, and Ohio is ranked 30th in the country. The tournament schedule will be at the bottom of this e-mail. If you are not able to make it this weekend, you can listen to the Penn match on WCDB 90.9 or via the internet Friday night. A link should be listed on our web-site. Also, the Ohio match precedes the home football game on Saturday. I'm also excited to announce that '98 graduate Rafaela Nikas will be inducted into the UAlbany Athletic Hall of Fame on October 7th. Rafaela will be the 4th volleyball player to be inducted after Elizabeth Rosentel-Insley ('83), Heidi Grunwald ('88), and Patty Munhall-Blacklock ('87). Congratulations Rafaela!!! As always, if you'd like to be removed from this e-mail list, or know someone that would be interested in receiving it, please pass along an e-mail. Best wishes and GO DANES!!! 17. Listed 6'6" 180, 2 stars on scouthoops.com from IL. I didn't see anything else, but I didn't google him.
  18. What I hear is that in the near term, while we get through the upgrade, we need to be affiliated with the NEC, as if we weren't, wwe'd have even more games like Montana St., U Mass, etc. I also feel if things come together financially, we'll be leaving the NEC early. Football leagues will be reconstituting in the next few years, which I hope we'll be a part of.
  19. Has anyone sent an e-mail to the athletic dept. asking these questions on how this will affect our football future? I'm not nearly as informed on this topic as most of the posters on this thread, so I'm not sure how to craft one.
  20. Very nice crowd at volleyball match, we we won in 4 games. UB had some good size and were pretty impressive blocking. Our team remained very composed after trailing big in first game and getting beat pretty soundly in the second.
  21. Haven't seen the Siena men's schedule yet, but I'm assuming it's part of a doubleheader.
