  1. UCLA Tuesday Nov 29, don't know time but obviously evening.
  2. I must be really conservative, I thought he was a left wing sycophant!
  3. I'll check on progress this weekend. The area is basically flat already, if it's staying on the same level as it exists. The trees are all down, so it should be quick. I'm sure the rain stopped any work for today.
  4. I believe all players are on campus now. I think Covingto n was the last to arrive.
  5. When are these items going to be o nthe UA website? There's been nothing for Women's hoops since last May.
  6. I drove by on the fourth. Saw the concrete bases for old hoop and tennis posts dug out. I hear there is some excavation activity going on today, but nothing major yet. Most of the excavation can be done pretty quickly. I'm not sure how long the turf installation takes. No one, I've talked to, is aware of any changes in the schedule.
  7. I would say ignorance of the writer.
  8. UAlbany president named to sports task force State University of New York at Albany President Kermit Hall has been named to a task force on the future of college sports in the United States. NCAA President Myles Brand said the input of college presidents and chancellors is "critical" to the task force's work. "College athletics done well is a tremendous asset and service to our student-athletes, university community, alumni and sports in general," Hall said in a statement issued Thursday. UAlbany has been seeking to develop a Division I-A program. It has had its most success so far in lacrosse. It's men's basketball team is also improving. Hall will also serve on one of the four subcommittees on the task force. It will explore presidential leadership of internal and external constituencies. Presidents of Southern Methodist, Kent State, Penn State and other colleges will join Hall on that subcommittee.
  9. Good to know. I'll make some inquiries. Maybe I can find out something. Iwould've thought there would bea lot of activity in order to be ready this fall.
  10. I couldn't agree more. This is very troubling to me. Regardless of the comments by the AD, this is a problem for recruiting and hiring assistants. Of course every other AD in the country could be wrong. At this point, we've done well, but might have done better. Supposedly the extension was getting done right after a recruiting trip around the time the year end banquet was being held. That was weeks ago and still no announcement. And, welcome back Patch, I was getting worried about you.
  11. As we are going to be deep and will be substituting freely, I'm not at all concerned who starts.
  12. Thursday Nov 10th either St. Peters or McNeese State Friday Nov 11th if we win we player the winner of the Florida vs. McNeese State/St Peters If we happen to win both we would play Nov 17th at MSG
  13. I got some clarification: When an institution post its graduation rate for student-athletes it is always for classes that have already graduated because the NCAA uses a six-year term. In the case of what is posted on the University's website, the latest NCAA graduation rates are for the class of student-athletes that enrolled at Albany in 1997-98, which because of our transition years from III to II to Division I, this is the first year that the NCAA tabulated Albany's athletic graduation rate. If you think back to 97-98, those students were recruited as Division Two student-athletes who transitioned to Division One in 1999. Following the NCAA formula, the 55% graduation rate reflects those SCHOLARSHIP athletes who would have stayed through the end of their careers. Obviously, UA's rate is lower then it should be because many of these same athletes ended up transferring because they may not have been able to compete at the D-1 level or left to go to another school because they saw that their playing time may diminish as new recruits came in. It also explains why Binghamton has no graduation rate reported (they were still D-3) in 1997-98. Stony Brook is probably a little slow in reporting their numbers, which is why we don't see their rate listed in the comparison. The APR rate which Albany did very well in, reflects today's student-athletes, so the two numbers on top of each other are really comparing two different sets of UA student-athletes.
  14. The road to Ankara June 15, 2:40 p.m. Learn some Turkish and do it quick, Binghamton fans, because you're about to see some imports. Though it's not official yet, Binghamton's Al Walker is trying to hire former Western Carolina staffer Ali Ton to replace assistant coach Brian Bidlingmyer, who joined Rob Jeter's new staff at Wisconsin-Milwaukee. Ton, a former Davidson guard and the son of a professional coach in Turkey, helped recruit some of that country's best young players to Western Carolina. Binghamton happens to have a sizable Turkish population, which will make that school receptive to the overtures Ton is sure to make. And might already be making. Ton is currently overseas, helping prepare a Turkish national team for the European Championships.
  15. golf league tonight, so I didn't hear the show. Any hot topics or new infoon UA athletics? How are the new fields progressing?
  16. That is interesting, and it doesn't seem to match the academic progress numbers where we are ranked much better. I can't explain why they wouldn't be more congruous.
  17. 96 take it easy. You and GDG are resembling Siena posters. Of course, the more revenue you have the more you can spend on sports, and while the percentage has drastically shrunk, a good portion of UA's budget is provided by the state, which the privates don't get. Our endowment is small and will hopefully will grow, but I think the point was many schools with large endowmnets don't spend them on athletics, while others do. If you go through the list, many are not spending huge sums on athletics. I don't think either GDG or myself is saying they're totally unrelated. You can't spend what you don't have.
  18. Endowments and Athletic Programs aren't synonymous. The ivys have some of the largest endowments, but aren't building powerhouse D1 programs in most sports. Obviously if we had more money we could spend it and the university is aggressively working on fund raising, but this has only been for a short time. I do contribute money every year, but I'm waiting for a contract extension for Brown before I donate again. It won't be enough to build the stadium, regardless. I keep buying those lottery and mega millions tickets though.
  19. I hope the next thing we see is that Brown has signed a contract extension, although I'm sure it will only be 1 year. I was thinking this year that our 100+ improvement in national ranking, improvement in AE standings and the level of recruits Brown brought in so far would warrant something longer. Maybe after we finish paying Beeten off.
