  1. The currently unranked University of Florida beat #19 Wake Forest 77-72 tonight. The margin of points scored was close in each half. How does Florida's victory affect the Danes? It should boost our current RPI, I would think, and give our team some additional confidence going into the regular season.
  2. Thanks, UAalum 72. I doubt I would have found the citing without your help. One question about the ranking: Has the AEast's position at the end of the season sunk so low in this rater's eyes that the league does not deserve one of the 16 regular slots in a single regional? Guess we will have to go out and prove otherwise. That said, I think that BU's performance vs Duke last night indicates very difficult competition to win the league title.
  3. I've gone to the website, and I see no mention of UAlbany at all. Can you please direct me to the place where we are mentioned. Maybe I can't see in this dark, dismal day.
  4. Enjoy this anomaly while you can. UAlbany is ranked 2nd in the nation in RPI, according to Pomeroy. Syracuse is ranked #1 in the nation, followed by your Great Danes. Florida comes in 3rd behind UAlbany, based on a lower strength-of-schedule. Of course, these ratings are completely meaningless, since hardly anybody else has played a game, but it is nice, for once, to see Albany's high status.
  5. Game tied late in the first half, 28-28. Go, Danes!
  6. Dane Pound, Once again, thanks for showing me the opportunity to listen to the Great Danes, when I cannot be there. And, thanks again, for managing this great link for all UAlbany sports. Your efforts are greatly appreciated.
  7. GreatDanes84, Where's the link to their message board? I tried a couple places and came up empty. Thanks for the headsup. It's nice to receive credit from a major program for a mid-major. Let's hope the Danes are as sharp tonight as they were last night. We just can't let anyone score 39 points on us. Go, Danes!
  8. Anyone else having trouble getting the broadcast on Fox radio?
  9. McFan, You may be onto something. In past years, you could order Siena tickets on the same application form for ordering season tickets. I think that option was missing on this year's form. Hopefully, in two years, the Siena game will be considered one of our home games.
  10. I ordered my Siena tickets, just as I did my season tickets, through the UAlbany Athletic Office. My season tickets have already arrived. When I inquired why the Siena tickets did not arrive with the season tickets, I was told that UAlbany had not received its allotment of tickets from Siena yet. My Siena tickets cost $17 apiece. I am not sure whether this information helps you, but I am relating my experience.
  11. If the powers-that-be want to fix it and do it without purchasing a new jersey, they can just add two dots above the "o." The umlaut is the same thing as a vowel (a, o, or u) followed directly by an "e." Yeah, that's still bad.
  12. I too truly doubt there is some "vast Siena media conspiracy," but I do think that newspaper editors listen a little more closely when some subscribers complain about negative publicity. I pointed out Siena's inherent advantages of tradition and good attendance as reasons why it receives greater media attention. On another topic which was discussed somewhat last season, I am hoping that UAlbany will put more pressure on the Siena people when it comes to negotiating a new multi-year contract. We should be in a much greater bargaining position if we win this year's game handily, as most predict will happen. (Yes, I know we have to win the game, and we need to do well next year.) For one, we should be considered the home team in two of the three years of a 3-year contract. Home team status carries certain financial and media advantages. For me, a successful season means that the UAlbany athletic administration will have to negotiate two important contracts in the next 18 months.
  13. Many posters on the Siena board were criticizing the tone of the reporter from the Schenectady Gazette last season when its team was experiencing all the negative developments. It appears that the Gazette changed the reporter after all the complaints. I believe Siena exerts a very large influence on the media coverage it receives in the Capital District area.
  14. The Times-Union's bias towards Siena predates their debut back into D-I. Since they were a nationally-ranked team in the 1950's, the media has never forgotten the former great status. It's almost a nostalgia type phenomenon. The team also has media prominence because of greater attendance at their events than ours. You can almost sense a spiraling type of relationship where the media frenzy sparks the higher attendance, and vice versa. It will be interesting to see how the dynamics change next season, if UAlbany enjoys the success it is expected to enjoy while the other team suffers another down year.
  15. Anyone know whether the Times-Union printed a story on the volleyball game? I receive only the online version, and I saw articles on the two basketball teams, but nothing about last night's competition.
  16. Since I cannot receive Time-Warner, I was glad I still had an option. What an exciting match. Thanks for providing us a chance to be part of a great event. Thanks!
  17. The Danes win a big one tonight in five games against Syracuse. The Danes came from behind in the match 0-2 to take games 3 & 4 from their opponents. The Danes also had to make the challenge at the end of the game when they were behind 12-14. The Danes then scored the next four points to win the match. It sounds like the 500 fans in the audience really appreciated the outcome. Congrats, Danes!
  18. For readers concerned about the lack of coverage of the UAlbany men's basketball team in the Times-Union this week that I mentioned this morning in this thread and which other posters here have also cited, I received the following reply from the Times=Union's sports editor: "Thank you for writing. Our Danes beat writer was on vacation last week, which explains the coverage imbalance. We recognize UAlbany's ascendance." I appreciate the editor's prompt reply to my concern. I guess his reply also causes me to take a second look whenever I jump to conclusions about coverage of our team. I apologize for any unnecessary bad feelings toward the Times-Union that I may have caused when I raised my concerns.
  19. B9j2j6s, If what you are saying about current student sentiment toward the men's basketball team is true, then all of what we long-term alumni have been hoping is going to turn out true. I think it is fantastic that there is a "buzz" around the campus about this year's team. In addition, it is wonderful to hear from you that expectations are high on campus for this team. Such expectations usually translate into high attendance figures. I am sure the team will not disappoint during the course of the season. I hope, too, that some of this enthusiasm will spill over into increased support for the women's team. With the loss of some starters and key players from last year's team, I am confident the team will appreciate the support we can give.
  20. According to a poster on the AE Basketball forum, UAlbany has been selected to win the conference this season. Here are the results, according to the poster: No. Team (1st-Place Votes) Points 1. Albany (5) 61 2. Boston U. (3) 52 3. Maine (1) 46 4. Binghamton 43 5. Hartford 41 6. Vermont 31 7. Stony Brook 21 8. UMBC 15 9. New Hampshire 14 I am sure there will be an official posting of this information soon on UAlbany's athletic site.
  21. Wow! It's great that season ticket prices have increased dramatically. This is occurring despite a major price increase. UAlbany is finally getting some respect in the community.
  22. UAalum72, Quite interesting that you should point out the obvious discrepancy in coverage of the two men's college basketball teams in the area. Just before I read your comment, I emailed my concern to the sports editor of the Times-Union. Here is the text of my email. It should be interesting if I receive any response.
