  1. An article in this morning's Times-Union provides more information and actual scoring for yesterday's scrimmage. As reported by others, Jason Siggers appears to have made major contributions in scoring yesterday. Even Zoellner seems to have scored a fair number of points in the shortened play. The results from the scrimmage make me feel even more positive about the upcoming season. I can't wait for the season to begin! Here's the link to the article: http://www.timesunion.com/AspStories/story...date=10/16/2005
  2. Great win today against a ranked opponent. Better yet, that it is a league victory. UAlbany's season seems a little inconsistent so far. Hopefully, this major win will get the team on track.
  3. When the story that UAlbany received an invitation initialy hit the wires, I was really excited. I still am proud. But then I read that 100 teams were invited and that one of the teams was our colleague just up the road with one of last year's worst records, those factors took off a lot of the luster.
  4. Announcement from the UAlbany website: "UALBANY MEN'S BASKETBALL WILL PARTICIPATE IN ESPN BRACKET BUSTER SATURDAY Albany, N.Y. -- The University at Albany men's basketball team has been invited to participate in the ESPN Bracket Buster Saturday series on Feb. 18, 2006. The Great Danes are among 100 teams representing 18 conferences in the event. UAlbany is joined by defending America East Conference champion Vermont in the field. "UAlbany's participation in ESPN's Bracket Buster is an example of how much the basketball program has grown over the last four years," said UAlbany coach Will Brown, whose team finished 13-15 last year, an eight-win improvement from the previous season. "We continue to gain national respect with this announcement. It's a tremendous honor for a young program." 5. Patch, Thanks for the ongoing, in-depth research you have been doing on Yokum. It looks like he will be a great catch for the Danes. It is also significant that Brown is not looking for just anyone to fill a spot on the roster now. We can now afford to be a little choosy on whom we want to fill minor and major roles. It is also important to note that others in the know in the Northeast view Albany with a little more respect. This team and program are both headed solidly in the right direction.
  6. The women picked up a nice victory today against Ohio University. They won 3-2 and picked up the last three goals for the win.
  7. Winning is everything. For the students, as well as a fan. If the men's basketball team can find a way to win this season, the doors will stand open to a lot of people. Specifically, if this team shows the way to close in on a 20-win season, you will find many people in the Capital District willing to choose attendance at our games, rather than down at the Pepsi. The admission tickets will be cheaper, the parking easier (even over at Dutch), and the improved atmosphere within a closed arena will make the atmosphere electric, and everybody will want to show up. Nobody will pay attention to any ads or marketing we do until the team starts to win, and a good showing early in the season OOC schedule will pave the way. This team will be good, and I predict many will join the bandwagon this year. For those of us who supported this team early in its struggles, this season will make us proud that we were among the first supporters.
  8. Anyone think the new university president have a hand in scheduling Utah Valley State? Interesting march to upgrade the UVSC athletic program. Thanks for providing the link.
  9. I just want to mention a somewhat humorous reaction that I had on Tuesday when I checked out the Times-Union sports section online before I looked here at this site. The first headline I read was "Brown to get buyout deal." My immediate reaction was, "Oh, no, UAlbany's firing Will!" My imagination was really running wild after all the speculation here and elsewhere. http://www.timesunion.com/AspStories/story...sdate=7/19/2005 The story, as I read deeper into the article, referred, of course, to the release of Larry Brown from the Detroit Pistons. I am very relieved that my vivid imagination did not reflect reality and that Will will be here for at least two more seasons. I wish him all the very best, especially this year when he will be expected to make major progress in the W column.
  10. Nothing much new, but an official notice of what is going on with the fields. http://www.albany.edu/sports/ Now things should move much more quickly.
  11. Reeder, Thanks for bringing up the stats from last year. It's interesting to see how highly even Northeastern was ranked, in such a supposedly low-ranking conference.
  12. Interesting prognosis. It seems like the reviewers did their homework quite well. Wow, to be ranked in the top half of Division I after only a few seasons. Not a bad accomplishment. I hope that all the ingredients who built this program to this point get their just reward.
  13. Dane Pound, Not to be a pain in the butt or something, but what about E J Gallup in the first modern game in the Siena series? He scored 36 points in that game. Perhaps he wasn't the best defender the team has ever known, but most coaches would have enjoyed his output.
  14. This article was posted on the Great Danes athletic website this afternoon. http://www.albany.edu/sports/stories.htm#ryanpro Congratulations, Shawn! Another great feat for the Dane athletic program.
  15. Those three players are going to be very much missed in the future. Hopefully, Coach Patterson can find student/athletes who have great potential to fill their shoes. It should be quite a challenge.
  16. The initial reaction to the hiring of Filien from VT is quite positive. A nice get for us. Let's hope it translates to a few more W's in the record this year. One poster said Filien's major coaching responsibility was with VT's tall players. Perhaps this development will enhance Zoellner's contributions in 05-06.
  17. From the Great Dane Athletic webpage, comes today's announcement. http://www.albany.edu/sports/stories.htm#mbbassistants I wonder how effective Filian from Vermont will be. I expect VT will be a main contender again for the league championship. Hopefully, both appointees will integrate well with our current staff and offer new perspectives. This year should be very important in the development of UAlbany's men's team.
  18. As announced by the athletic department this afternoon, Kevin Rae has the opportunity to extend his season. Congratulations to Kevin, and more good publicity for UAlbany. http://www.albany.edu/sports/stories.htm#raestar
  19. Dane Pound, Thanks for the latest lacrosse news, and thanks for doing the research. As usual, this website is providing positive, concrete evidence for the improvement and advancement of UAlbany athletics. As the university's athletic year ends, please accept my thanks for your continued devotion to the athletic program.
  20. UAlbany up by 2 (4-2) in top of 7th with bases loaded and only one out!
  21. Thanks for the final score. How did you find out that info? My gametracker quit at the beginning of the 4th. Once again, thanks.
  22. По-английски или по-русски, пожалуйста.
  23. Yes, we put up with so much abuse from them (and others) about how inferior our program was for all those years. While we were struggling to build up our D I program, we here on this Board were supportive all along of the team, the coach, the players, the school, and each other. In contrast, there's a feeding frenzy over there. Many of their posters chew each other up unmercifully. I think their new mascot should be the piranha. I also think a small part of the English language should change. We can now acclaim those who "have the patience of a Great Dane."
  24. Thanks, guys! I needed a good laugh, and you supplied the material. That gift keeps givin'.
