  1. Great recognition for this bulletin board. I would like to contend for one of those awards. "Mir i voina: Novoe myshlenie : zametki voennogo uchenogo (Chelovechestvo na poroge XVIII veka)"
  2. Dane Pound, Let me add my note of congratulation on obtaining your first 100 members! And thanks for all you do to maintain this site and provide us valuable info. Especially, for me, members who do not live in the Albany area hunger for news about Great Dane sports. Once again, thanks, and best wishes for the holiday.
  3. Wow! Great Dane women win! Fairleigh sienafaninson had a 19-13 lead, and then the Danes take charge to score 21 of the next 23 points to take a 34-21 lead into the locker room. Awesome! I like the coach's praise for the "tenacious defense."
  4. Nope. let me know when you get yours, though. I do not live in the Albany area and will probably receive mine after yours. Thanks.
  5. Patch, I agree with your analysis of the game. Zoellner was intimidated by the refs with the cheap or non-existent fouls very early in the first half. He recovered a little in the second half, but it was not enough. Where were you sitting, by the way?
  6. From the UAlbany website: SCHUMACHER LEADS UALBANY OVER AIR FORCE, 86-65, AT NAU TOURNAMENT Flagstaff, Ariz. – Jen Schumacher scored a career-high 31 points, including a school-record 25 in the first half, to lead UAlbany past Air Force, 86-65, in the consolation round of the Northern Arizona Thanksgiving Tournament on Saturday, Nov. 27. UAlbany (2-1) took the lead from the opening tip and relinquished it only once, less than two minutes into the game. Schumacher netted one of her school-record eight three-point field goals with 12:53 left in the first half to put the Great Danes up by 10 before Air Force cut the lead back to six at the 9:18 mark. The Falcons were still within nine with 3:23 left in the period, before Schumacher and Maree Jones sparked a 14-3 run to end the half. Schumacher, who tied the fifth-best single-game scoring total in school history, came back from the intermission and nailed her eighth trey of the night off an assist from Sherri Mikus. UAlbany never looked back, leading by as many as 26 in the second stanza. "We were able to quickly rebound from a disappointing loss. Getting beat at the buzzer can take a lot out of you," said UAlbany coach Trina Patterson, whose team lost to Northern Arizona, 64-61, in the opening round. "Bouncing back like this showed our character." Schumacher, who went 8-of-10 from behind the 3-point arc as well as going 5-of-5 from the charity stripe, shattered the single-game three-point standard. Jess McGinlay (2003) and Megan Buchanan (2000) shared the previous mark with seven in a game. "Most of the shots, there was nothing between me and the basket," Schumacher said. "My teammates found me when I was wide open. We were really revved up from last night so it was good to show how good we really are." Jones, who was named to the all-tournament team, recorded a career-high 21 points against the Falcons. The senior forward added five rebounds and four assists. Danielle Hucheson recorded 14 points and was one rebound shy of her first double-double of the season with nine. Air Force (1-3) was led by Pamela Findlay with 15 points. Alicia Steele recorded a double-double with 10 points and 10 rebounds for the Falcons.
  7. Yeah, it was probably the same Siena fan I heard screaming for Albany's blood in the last 30 seconds of last year's game.
  8. The Wagner game was very winnable. I was there to witness it. We did not look like the same team which beat Siena in the last five minutes.
  9. I agree with you that the lower total attendance cannot be attributed to the lack of students. Especially in the holiday season, many people do not have the leisure time to attend multiple basketball games in one week. I believe another reason for the lower attendance this year is due to the Siena-Syracuse game. Many people had probably already committed to the higher-profile rivalry than the Albany-Siena game. I do strongly believe, however, that a boost in overall attendance will occur only when the time is convenient for students to attend. The Albany-Siena game should be scheduled preferably on a weekend when no other major commitments (final exams) are scheduled. On another issue, now that UAlbany has reached parity with Siena in men's basketball, we should insist that some games now be considered our home games. We should be entitled to the better seats in the arena for a change. Wish my wife and me luck as we head out in a few minutes to attend the Wagner game. The last time we saw Mike Deane was in the Potsdam game of the early 1970's. He was not too happy at the end of the game when he was forced to sit the bench because of a 5th foul.
  10. Sorry for the mistake. I received the info from CollegeSports.com. Albany will play Air Force which lost to New Mexico State.
  11. According to CBS Sportline, the Great Danes lost a hearbreaker to Northern Arizona 64-61.
  12. Statefan, Thanks for the recaps on the Gazette articles. Thanks even more for your analysis. Glad you got home - eventually - from the game and celebration. Patch, Thanks also for your analysis. It's great to win this game - finally. It's especially gratifying around this holiday.
  13. Far more UAlbany students were in attendance at the Siena game last year than last night.
  14. Thanks for your opinion, Albany Observer. You made many good points. I will disagree only with your suggestion for a date for future games. You are correct with stating that this year's date was inappropriate, but late December would be just as bad. Either the students, for whom this game really should be played, will already be home for holiday break or involved in intensive study. Even at a party school, sometimes you have to do some work (just kidding).
  15. Any stories or quotes from the Schenectady Gazette about last night? I don't have a subscription.
  16. Almost to a man, the Siena fans have been most gracious on the UAlbany victory last night. And, like rdjc stated, we will gladly welcome them at the RACC in the future.
  17. Different from the past 3 years, I have heard no estimates of crowd size for the Siena game. Specifically, I do not know how many tickets have been sold already. Anybody heard numbers at all?
  18. One of the highlights for me from the Sacred Heart game was the free substitution pattern by Coach Brown. I know I had heard several negative comments about his lack of substitutions in past years, especially in 2003-04. It is very gratifying that he has broken out of this habit. As the Times-Union article points out, ten different players were already on the floor for Albany about barely halfway through the first half. It is wonderful to see the confidence Brown has in all his players. Perhaps this game will silence some of the criticism. I am really looking forward to this season.
  19. Another brawl occurred on a more local level that was quite serious. The incident to which I am referring was a men's basketball game between Albany in Siena which I think occurred in 1972. The brawl in one quarter of the old gym was so serious that the game was ended with more than one minute remaining. Albany won the game since it had a 16 point or so lead.
  20. The dialoge on this site is very quiet on the eve of the first real game for our women's and men's hoop squads. I, for one, am looking forward with great anticipation to both seasons.
  21. UAlbany comes in dead last, according to the first release of ratings by Sagarin. We come in as the 317th best team out of 330. Here are the rest of the rankings: 135 Boston University 161 Vermont 212 Main 218 Northeastern 261 Binghamton 268 Hartford 288 Stony Brook 296 UMBC 305 New Hampshire 317 Albany No team on UAlbany's schedule comes in lower ranked. It will be interesting to compare these rankings with the final rankings next spring.
  22. Nice victory against Binghamton today. The other team usually fields a very strong team. It won the conference title last year. Another sign of an improving all-around sports program at UAlbany!
