  1. Why does UMBC get the #6 seed over #7 UNH? The two teams split their games this year, and each team is 5-11. What serves as the tie-breaker? Just curious.
  2. I am in total agreement. And all it takes is for us to upset SB at SEFCU, and Vermont hosts the AE Championship game (assuming they advance that far). I would never accuse UVM of trying to lose, of course, but losing today to Hartford, coupled with us losing at SB, is great for UVM.
  3. UVM didn't help letting Hartford go bananas from 3...That's alright...maybe third time is the charm, we are getting closer. Good point---tough for any team to beat a rival 3 times in one season. And by playing SB, we won't have to deal with a packed section of UVM fans at SEFCU. This could work to our advantage. And I'm up for another bus trip to Vermont in mid-March.
  4. Before today, only one team all year scored more than 70 points at Stony Brook. That team was Canisius, which lost 82-75 (Maine scored 69 points at Stony Brook in a 79-69 loss). No other team came close to scoring that many points at Stony Brook. Five times SB kept their opponent at home under 50 points (and once under 40, when UMBC scored only 39 points). Perhaps we played and shot that well today. I would like to think so. Or perhaps we didn't get Stony Brook's best defensive effort. Or perhaps a combination of both. If we play SB again in the Tournament, we had better keep them well under 60 points if we want to win. My $.02.
  5. # 1 Stony Brook # 8 Binghamton #4 UAlbany #5 Maine #3 Hartford #6 UMBC (?) #2 Vermont #7 UNH (?)
  6. Hartford beats Vermont 61-58 at the buzzer (Sikma hits a three pointer).
  7. I have a hard time believing that we saw Stony Brook's or Vermont's best efforts today. Doesn't mean we haven't played well... Agreed.
  8. I have a hard time believing that we saw Stony Brook's or Vermont's best efforts today.
  9. Two straight spin moves by Brenton. The second one was called for a travel, but I noted in the other SB thread that we have to stop that spin move of Brenton.
  10. Hartford up 46-37 on UVM in the second half; and we're beating SB in the second half. Guess no one wants to play us in the second round on our home court.
  11. Cairns Taipans 78 Perth Wildcats 72 Good game from Cairns's Cam Gliddon.
  12. Looks like Stony Brook woke up. We knew they would.
  13. Out-of-Town Scoreboard Watch: #8 Binghamton 25 #7/6 UMBC 26 (HALF) #5 Maine 74 #6/7 UNH 79 (Final) Hartford 31 #2 Vermont 32 (HALF) Miami Heat 73 NY Knicks 77 (Start 4th) UNH finishes 5-11. If UMBC wins over Binghamton, they also finish 5-11. UMBC and UNH split the regular-season series 1-1. Not sure how the tie break will work. If we get the #3 seed, we will play the winner of the UMBC-UNH tiebreak scenario.
  14. Notwithstanding all of the foregoing, we will have to play better than we did last night against UNH in order to prevail in the AE Tournament. UNH plays tough and gave us the type of game that I expected from them. Nonetheless, I think that we need our offense to score at least 60 points per game in the Tournament because I am not confident in our perimeter defense. We simply give up too many open shots from the perimeter. We have for years. I was pleased with Gary Johnson's play last night. I think he had a couple blocks and steals. I am so glad that he is getting minutes in the regular season. We will need his (and others like DJ) athleticism, defense, and hustle in the Tournament.
  15. 20-win season. Anyone watch the game and able to provide insight on the win?
  16. What radio station is the game on? Wasn't the game moved to another station for today's game? Edit: 810AM
  17. OT (sort of), but an Interesting article about Stony Brook's eighth-year coach and the rise of SB's basketball program: http://articles.courant.com/2012-11-24/sports/hc-uconn-men-1125-20121124_1_steve-pikiell-stony-brook-kevin-ollie
  18. Maine is actually in fifth place for Tournament seeding purposes (due to the post-season exclusion of Boston University), and I agree with you about the impact of playing Maine. I would like to avoid Maine in the first round if at all possible. Not to add insult to injury in this thread, but wasn't Maine's best guard a DNP (injury) when Maine played us in Albany this season?
  19. Right on pace for a 4/5 game against Maine and probably another first round loss....YEY! *pumpsfists* As long as we beat UNH and Hartford drops one of their last 2 games, we have the tiebreaker for the #3 seed with a 9-7 record. If we make it to the second round of the Tournament and upset UVM, that's all we can ask of this roster. That would give us 22 wins and constitute one of our better seasons at the Division I level.
  20. I think I just heard on the broadcast that BU had 17 assists and only 4 turnovers. My goodness.
  21. I agree. Along with Papale they are winning with two freshman. Id.
  22. Watson is sick. When they don't score it is not because of our defense; it's because they miss open looks or make an unforced error.
  23. ... that makes four. At least Black was able to save that pass and get it to Johnson.
