  1. I kind of saw this coming. What concerned me, and correct me if I'm wrong, is that undergraduate students at UAlbany have been unable to take classes in the CNSE unless they are formally admitted to that College (not even a, e.g., Nanotech 101). Seems divisive and exclusionary to me.
  2. Call the ticket office and ask. I think they will actually have a UA table set up in the UVM lobby where they have the will call tickets purchased through UA. That is the way Will call was at TUC for Siena and I've seen that a number of other time. I would still call and check at the number already posted. Thank you (also a thank you to Phoenix, MsGDG, and Bob87 for your posts) for the information and words of wisdom. An email was sent out this week, and the procedure for picking up our tickets at will call in Vermont seems to be pro forma, and everything should work out just fine. I imagine that we'll get our tickets to the women's game at that time too. Saturday is going to be a long (but hopefully great) day of college basketball. Imagine rushing two different basketball courts on the same day (but in two different states)?
  3. For those of us not taking the Alumni Association bus (but who registered and purchased tickets through the A.A.), any word on when we may pick up tickets? standard procedure would be to have an Albany will call area at UVM arena's saturday morning , but I have not heard officially. Yeah I'd call the Alumni Association because they'd know for sure. Last thing you want is to be stuck in the lobby at UVM w/ no ticket from my confimation email Thank you for registering for this event! We recommend that you print this page for your records. Bus departs from the Alumni House at 6:30 am. You will receive your game tickets at that time. If you purchased game tickets only, we will email you on instructions of when and where to pick up your tickets. I wouldn't worry abiout it unless I didn't get that in a couple of more days Thank you!!! Just getting anxious for the game. new tweet ualbanyalumni Alumni Association trip for AE game bit.ly/Y7gJBf tix distribted at bus departure. Tix only p/u @ualbany will call table at UVM. I am not comfortable with this procedure. UVM doesn't have to honor a "confirmation number" that we received when purchasing tickets through the A.A. So if there is any kind of mix-up on UVM's end, ticket-only purchasers are stuck in the UVM lobby at will-call. If this is the procedure to be employed, I can only hope that the tickets at UVM's will call will be matched up with our names.

  6. Already around 70 people registered, from the list of people who made themselves visible on the registration. I'm registered and ready to go! Already nervous about the game. I remember what it was like in 2007. It's going to be a madhouse ... .
  7. I was on the fence. Frustrated. Listen to Brown's post game press conference from tonight about the countdown to the tourney they had. What frustrated you---what was said in the post-game press conference? Just curious!
  8. What an emotionally draining weekend (in a good way of course)! I am 100% in support of the students rushing the court: First win over SUNY Long Island in a couple years; 3 straight Tournament losses to them; beating the #1 seed; pulling off an upset in a conference semifinal game (versus a regular-season game); and winning the game in the final seconds.
  9. UMBC up on UVM 50-42 with 15:27 to play.
  10. Video of Maine's second-to-last possession and post-game interview with Rowley: http://therecordsports.blogspot.com/2013/03/videos-ualbany-tops-maine-50-49.html?m=1
  11. If UMBC wins, and we beat SUNY Long Island, we would host the Championship game, so I will cheer for UMBC at 5:00 tomorrow. It's a longshot at best but still possible.
  12. Do the women play at 1pm tomorrow or 11am? I saw 1pm and am hoping that is the correct time of the game with daylight savings and all.
  13. I refreshed my browser and got an article about our win and tomorrow's game. It's in the College Sports Blog page.
  14. I thought there was a possession or two on defense late in the game when our crowd was as loud as I can remember. Playoff intensity tonight. Let's do it again tomorrow. I agree with Click's comments too. Maine's backcourt---especially Edwards---is tremendous, but Coach made all the moves that he could to give us a chance tonight. Interesting how he went with Black, Iati, and DJ at the same time at points in the second half. Maine played with heart tonight and deserves respect. I watched Maine during the season when they didn't play up to their ability and that is why they were 6-10. Maine should have had a better record this year; they are talented. Edwards is awesome.
  15. This game was still disgusting. Rowley came up huge towards the end, but cracked under the big free throws at the end. But he was so clutch on the 4 free throws before that. Without those 4, we might not have been in a position to win it.
  16. UMBC upsets Hartford this afternoon. The curse of the #3 vs. #6 matchup continues.
  17. ... or misplaced Siena fans! Thanks for the picture of the projection screen. I am looking forward to seeing the screen(s) tomorrow afternoon. I hope the food menu is improved like it was the last time the Tournament was here.
  18. Id. (Footnote: I believe that we are still awaiting the U.S. Supreme Court's opinion in Fisher v. University of Texas, No. 11-345 (argued Oct. 12, 2012), which involves a challenge to UT-Austin's affirmative action admissions policy. Petitioner Fisher is challenging the University's admissions policy and asking the Supreme Court to declare the admissions policy of the University inconsistent with---or, in the alternative, overrule in full or part---Grutter v. Bollinger, 539 U.S. 306 (2003), which is the 2003 landmark case in which the Supreme Court held that colleges may not use a racial quota but instead may employ a "holistic review" of an application and therefore consider race (i.e., as one of numerous factors) in the admissions process.) Here's a New York Times article on the case if anyone is interested in learning more about it: http://www.nytimes.c...wanted=all&_r=0
  19. I concur: http://blog.timesunion.com/collegesports/johnson-will-get-the-start-for-danes-against-maine/15624/
  20. I've always liked University of New York (or University of New York at Albany). We don't say University of Ann Arbor/Madison, etc. The exception that comes to mind would be University of California in the Pac 10, which usually goes by the name Berkeley in all non-sports discussions. If we want to be considered a flagship state university, we should adopt the naming scheme that every other state uses. Moreover, isn't "State University of New York" redundant? Are we that concerned about being mistaken for a private University of New York (NYU perhaps)?
  21. This is a bummer. Had we known sooner, perhaps we could have launched a little campaign to buy them out for the students. How many members are on this BPF forum? If we got 200 people to donate $25 (5 tickets), we could buy out all 1,000 tickets. I would certainly donate $25 or $50 for this purpose.
  22. I certainly would not ascribe to the view that UVM or SB were "laying back on purpose." Indeed, I think SB and UVM went out and played hard yesterday. Moreover, I wasn't able to watch the game (radio only), so my opinions can only be based on a limited perspective, and I should probably defer to the views of those who watched the game. I do think, however, that there is a measurable difference between playing a hard regular-season game and playing a hard, for example, AE Tournament game or in a game where it means something. Yesterday's games had zero relevance to Stony Brook and Vermont's seeding for the Tournament. Accordingly, I am of the tentative view that there might be a difference in applied intensity and effort between (1) playing Albany or Hartford in the last regular-season game with nothing on the line and (2) and playing a game where there is everything on the line such as the America East Tournament. My casual observations are based on the number of points that Stony Brook gave up all year at home. I also look to the difficulty that our starting backcourt has had against AE perimeter defense as of late. And now, all of a sudden, we score 70 points at Stony Brook and our starting backcourt has a great game and scores around 34 points. And didn't we out-rebound them (or come close to it) as well? I want to believe that we played really well yesterday and that we have a great shot at upsetting SB next weekend. So, come next weekend, I will once again be drinking the purple kool-aid. At least for one more weekend this season.
