Like the new logo, but the "E" is really screwed up and annoying. Like the modification to the E posted above, which looks fantastic.

CAA!

I am surprised too. Buffalo doesn't need to rally around SUNY or New York IMHO. It is a great university and was a fine college pre-SUNY days as well. Although I cheer the most for UA, I have a degree from both UA and Buffalo, and I still think Buffalo sets the bar in the SUNY system academically and in athletics. Until we have AAU membership and are in a FBS conference, anyone will have a hard time convincing me otherwise. Edit: Why don't we play Buffalo in any sports? I wish we would. -

Nanocollege to split from UAlbany ?
UA_MA_2000 replied to purplenorange's topic in General Danes Stuff
If the split is already going to happen then we have no leverage to seek favorable terms or any terms at all for that matter. The worst is yet to come. -

This joint statement reveals no benefit to UAlbany. Just rhetoric. -

Thank you to Clack and others for staying on top of this and keeping us informed. Today's events upset me, and I smell a lot of bull-Siena in the humid air. I'm glad there was outspoken dissent from some of the trustees today. -
Maximizing Damien - Logo Change

I like the current logo with the "UAlbany" through the letter A. For my part, I like the "U" in UAlbany, because it indicates that we are a public school and not another private New England school. I see no harm in having multiple logos. Heck, RPI had two different mascots recently (Engineers in hockey; Red Hawks in other sports). -
Maximizing Damien - Logo Change

The state of New York is unique. I would like to have a logo (or secondary logo) that incorporates the state somehow. -
10-6 is my guess too. We lose 2 games to UVM, 2 games to Stony Brook, 1 game to Hartford, and we lose 1 more game to a team on the road that we should have beaten. 9-7 would not be a shock either with a young back court. 12-4 would shock me and would require SB or UVM to fall victim to key injuries. I could see 11-5 if we steal one from UVM or SB. Coaches will probably vote us 4th in the preseason poll, but we might pass Hartford and get 3rd.

Weird, when I went to the roster page, the 2012-2013 roster was still up. Anyone else able to view the 2014-24 roster?

Firebirds games were great! Good point about stadium capacity. I guess we will find out about the level of fan support and interest this fall. I hope we sell out one or two games (home opener and homecoming). I was at the Arena Bowl that we hosted and won (beat Orlando I think?). One of the best and most electric sporting events that I've been to.

I agree. My concern is how effectively we can make this "the team" of the Capital District and actually draw 15k-25k fans per game. We need fans of Siena, RPI, Skidmore, St. Rose, etc. to feel welcome and take interest in our football program. UA fans alone will not fill a 27k stadium (at least not now). And ponder this: how many events with a set start time, and which events, draw 15k or more people in this area? Are any of these events sports-related? Travers, 4th of July Fireworks, certain concerts at SPAC (DMB), and what else? Not many events, and the only sports-related event to draw (and exceed) the attendance we want is the Travers. Not trying to be a downer; just noting the challenge we face in drawing people to our games and urging that we market our product to all colleges in this area (I.e., perhaps let all students---even Siena for example---in for free).

In addition to other requirements, such as average attendance, doesn't FBS require a minimum capacity of 35,000 seats? I am probably wrong, but that number seems to stick out for me. Maybe that is what Buffalo upgraded to; I'll have to double check. Whatever the FBS number is I think it is critical that we upgrade past that number so that requirement is met should the FBS opportunity ever arise (you never know). This stadium, in some form or another, will be with us for decades to come.

Are any of them 3-star recruits ? I think this will be a strong year for the America East. I think the coaches will put us at 4th preseason behind Vermont, SB, and Hartford. On the other hand, we have a strong top 4 or so, but I'm not sure about the bottom half. Maine lost a lot. I put us at 10-6 this year. Maybe 11-5 if the new guys gel.

Founder of Chobani took classes at Albany
UA_MA_2000 replied to slickwilly's topic in General Danes Stuff
I've seen lots of Chobani at the Alumni 5k races on homecoming weekend. Took home a couple cases of Chobani (cases were being given out because there was so much of it) two years ago.
