  1. One of the lowest percentages on the team, is it not? I'll check...hold... I think only Paige's percentage is lower.
  2. One of the lowest percentages on the team, is it not?
  3. Hartford was up on UNH 18-12 at the half. Midway through the second half, Hartford up on UNH 30-24.
  4. I generally don't favor using a zone defense against a team that can shoot well from deep, but perhaps a 3-2 zone might be something to try in the second half. We have to focus on their guards. Make the red team's big men beat us.
  5. Yikes, they just said they are no taller than 6'7". We have to keep pounding it in to Puk. Down 9 points, now down 2 at the half, 32-30. Impressive.
  6. ... and 6-12 from three-point land. *sigh*
  7. Coach might have to leave DJ in; red team's guards are eating us up. I don't understand how the red team has so many wide-open looks for taking three pointers. Are they that much more athletic than us? Two straight charging fouls on Black. Both Black and DJ have 2 fouls.
  8. Metcalf, 2-minute penalty for a cross-check on Morris. All 12 points for the red team from 3s. (Update: BU scores their first two-point basket in the first half at the 10:46 mark.) Red team is (again) double teaming our guards off the high ball screens just as effectively as they did against us in the first game. Maine up 17-14 on UVM so far. Go figure.
  9. The red team is double-teaming our guards off the high ball screens so far. Red team getting clean looks from the three-point line (all nine points from 3 three pointers). Our bigs, however, are playing great interior defense so far. DJ Evans in for Iati for defensive reasons (J. Papale with two three pointers for the red team). 9-9 tie score, first media timeout.
  10. I agree with our color man on Fox 980 that this will be a great defensive test for Gary Johnson. We need a several lock-down defenders on the perimeter come Tournament time.
  11. Stony Brook just beat UMBC 83-39. UMBC was actually leading 23-22 in the first half. So that means SB went on a 61-16 run.
  12. At the beginning of the post-game interview with Syracuse Onondaga County College's Coach, did he refer to us as "Albany State?"
  13. I. Time Warner Sports (Albany): Time Warner Sports (Albany) appears to have the replay scheduled for Monday, February 18: College Lacrosse – “Albany (N.Y.) at Syracuse” Tomorrow 2/18, 7:00pm – 9:00pm (120 minutes) http://tvlistings.timewarnercable.com/tvListings/ II. Central New York Time Warner Sports: It looks like the game will be replayed on Central New York Time Warner Sports at 7:00PM on Tuesday: http://www.twcs.tv/p...sp?id=2013-2-17
  14. Setting aside our rivalry with them, I think this would be a great move for them and good for the Capital District. If larger crowds happen downtown, the local economy benefits too (hotels, restaurants, etc.). I reserve the right to change my mind after hearing others' views on here.
  15. I believe our magic number for the #3 seed is now 2 games. Even if we finish 1-2 (likely), Hartford would have to finish 3-0 to reach 10-6 and be a game ahead of us. So, 1 UAlbany win coupled with 1 Hartford loss locks up the #3 seed. As the #3 seed, if we beat UVM in the Conference Tournament on our home court before a packed SEFCU Arena, and Hartford or Maine beats Stony Brook---we host the Conference Title game folks.
  16. Puk set the tone on defense from the start. His play tonight was stellar. Puk probably doesn't get the recognition he deserves out there. Quick on his feet too. DJ Evans was great at the point. I like the idea of DJ and Black out there at the same time. Gary Johnson had a good night too: 5 rebounds in the limited time he had. He is a real "X" factor out there. Did anyone else notice how small our lineup was at times? 3-4 guards on the court at times including one point in the game where DJ, Iati, and Black were all out there at once. I like how Coach played the matchups tonight against a guard-heavy Hartford team. Hartford went with some sort of half-court trapping zone on one possession in the first half resulting in Black throwing the ball out of bounds towards the pep band. Strange that Hartford didn't go back to that defense. Was it a 3-2 zone or a 2-1-2 half-court zone? We shot amazing in this game, and Hartford shot atypically bad. A great win, but if we see Hartford again we should expect a battle.
  17. I agree with the article. I think the game has changed. Although I played basketball in the Suburban Council, in college, and then locally in some leagues a couple years ago, I quit playing the sport competitively because of the overly aggressive play (and because I prefer distance running). For example, defense was once played by moving your feet and staying with your (wo)man. Now defenders are lazy and use hand and body checking. It's lazy (but perhaps now necessary) defense IMHO. Basketball was once a "non-contact" sport and it no longer is.
  18. Would we essentially be two games behind #2 Vermont because UVM swept us this year? Still pretty amazing. Stony Brook deserves and will get the #1 seed. We must not be on their side of the bracket! How fun would a second-round AE Tournament game between #3 UAlbany and #2 Vermont be?! SEFCU would be packed with both schools' fans. I am sure the conference would love to see that matchup since UVM and UA will be supplying most of the fans Tournament weekend. Also if Hartford is the #4 seed, we already know Hartford can beat Stony Brook... .
  19. ... And the AE gains a New England public school in the Boston market. I wonder whether CCSU was considered. I know very little about UMASS-Lowell. I am curious to read everyone's views on why (or why not) this is a good move for the AE.
  20. 66-64 final score, I believe. And UNH beat UMBC in overtime! Both results help our efforts to play a #3 vs. #6 game vs. UMBC in the AE Tournament. Now we have to hold serve Saturday night. HUGE game this Saturday!
  21. So what you are saying is...exciting times ahead?? I am excited for Saturday's men's basketball game against Hartford.
  22. With BU's exit, this conference is headed south. I agree we need to get stronger. Disagree wholeheartedly. Live next to BU...they are a non-factor in this city, in the media, and elsewhere. They are a hockey school that happens to be ok in other sports. BU made a lateral move. I agree with D96's disagreement (but I also agree with the sentiment that we need to make the America East Conference stronger). Beyond Commonwealth Avenue, BU doesn't get much coverage. From my own experience, I have often tried without success to find coverage of BU basketball in the Boston Globe. BU basketball doesn't even play that often (or at all?) in Agganis Arena, which is a shame. I enjoyed watching basketball there at the America East Tournament a few years ago. As far as the America East Conference goes, I have always wanted it to develop into the hub of Northeastern/New England public schools. Drop Hartford, pick up Rhode Island or some other defection (CCSU?), and slowly---but surely---build our program to the point that it is ready for a conference upgrade 10-20 years from now.
  23. At Vermont too! Stony Brook also held serve against Binghamton and won in straight sets.
