  1. Some definitions: Bias: An unfair act or policy stemming from prejudice; a preference or inclination, especially one that inhibits impartial judgment. Animus: A feeling of animosity; ill will; intense dislike, hatred. I am sure there are other definitions out there. If the TU has hatred, an intense dislike, or carries out an unfair policy stemming from prejudice with regard to our school or sports program, that is quite an accomplishment on our part. Fascinating topic ripe for further debate and study (would make for a great Master's thesis or possibly a dissertation in one of the social science or communications programs IMHO).
  2. There are a lot of things that go unreported. And most of their readers don't care about the C.C. (unlike us of course). Evidence of bias? Not so sure. I just think that most of the TU readers, like the TU, do not share our raving passion for our school. Again, not bias or animus. Or maybe it is ... .
  3. Why shouldn't the TU mention that BU wasn't eligible for the C.C.? They usually compete for, or win, the Cup. Forgive the OT: For years I have read about TU bias on this forum. I read all the TU articles on local college sports, go to most of our major sports's home (and several road) games, and frequent this blog daily. I see very little objective evidence of bias. I do not claim that there is no bias. I just do not see any objective evidence of it. And if there is indeed bias, how do we measure it? What variables do we use, and how do we quantify and measure those variables? Just because the TU doesn't share the passion we have for UA doesn't mean they are biased or have an animus towards UA. I do note, however, that it seems like Siena's recruiting news gets more press so far this summer than our off-season recruiting news (I.e., here is one variable we could use). Am I missing something that everyone else sees that I have not seen/read?
  4. I think UB's ball court looks awesome! I've always wanted a NYS logo on our court. Well done UB (my other alma mater)!
  5. Never will happen. Why would UMASS, Buffalo, UConn and Army ever want any part of that. Never in a million years. If they were losing money at the FBS level or if the FBS becomes only the BCS conferences as we have read about on the blogs. For this to happen the FCS schools would have to up their commitment to football, and UCONN/UMASS/Army would realize and accept they are not Big Ten or ACC schools and can't make the jump to BCS FBS.
  6. Dream FBS (or future FCS Tier 1) America East Football Conference: North Division: Maine UNH UAlbany UMASS Buffalo Army South Division: Stony Brook Rhode Island UCONN Delaware *need two more state schools or suitable programs from the A-10, former Big East, or CAA. CCSU and Towson State if we had to. Thoughts?
  7. Agreed. And in basketball focus on building a program of consistency like UVM has for the past decade. Then we will be ready for a league like the MAC in all sports or, who knows, a yet-to-be-formed league that suits us even better.
  8. I would prefer not to be in a conference replete with private schools located south of the Mason-Dixon line.
  9. Is there ever a scenario where we don't have to pay an exit fee or buyout? Are we forever locked into a conference unless we pay our way out?
  10. I feel the same way. And about several of the schools in the CAA. Question: Did we receive a formal invitation to join the the CAA, or is this just blog talk?
  11. How about this idea: UA, UVM, SBU, UNH, and Maine join the CAA to form part of a CAA 16-team super conference's North Division. Would this idea ever float?
  12. Why have only 25 members voted in this thread's poll? This is an important thread and topic. :-)
  13. Totally agree. I only want the move if it is a fiscal jump up as well.
  14. If it is true, are we happy about this move? I am not so sure I am yet.
  15. According to Facilities Management the new track will be available for recreational use when teams aren't using it. That's great news for the runners among us!!
  16. Will the public be allowed to run on the new track? If not, I will miss doing speed workouts there.
  17. As space as this? I like the color strips that go down the sideline. Reminds me of the Rose Bowl. Also like the red numbers on their field. I would like purple numbers on our field (I think).
  18. Finances are hurting at many law schools because of the sharp decline in college graduates taking the LSAT exam and, in turn, not enrolling in law school. Economics at a law school are, to a substantial degree, a function of class size (i.e., tuition dollars), and when class size goes down, so does revenue. Unfortunately, the market is saturated with lawyers, and there are simply too many lawyers in too many cities, and Albany is no exception. The supply of attorneys must go down because the jobs simply aren't there. I am 110% in support of a merger (if only in name if nothing else) with UAlbany and Albany Law, but the law school model is broken and is in need of major repair nationwide. The New York Times has run several articles about this topic, and they are a worthy read. (I will try to post the links to these articles later).
  19. I think so. For a few dollars more than upper deck but lacking/refusing to pay +1000; I am shooting for lower level immediately to the right or left of the "1000$ seats." I've been told you can see more from the upper deck...this is the type of deliberation I have to go through having NEVER been to a pro or significantly college football game. I guess live and learn! I took into account the increased distance from the field if one is seated in the upper deck (and perhaps the greater chance of feeling bursts of wind on those cold days). I've wrestled with the lower-upper-deck decision myself, and I opted for the lower deck. Having watched a football game at UMASS when we played them, I went in the second half from the upper seats down closer to the field and liked the closer vantage point a lot better. So my experience at that game helped me with my decision.
