Pep Band Cheers
danefan replied to B9j2j6s's topic in Fall Sports-Football, Soccer, Volleyball, Cross-Country, Field Hockey
yes you guys definitly need to get on the same page as the PA guy with the CD player. Its freakin college football already!! Let the band play...screw Avril Lavigne and Jennifer Lopez. Oh and I like the music you guys play when the other team gets a penalty. Just rob some other schools of their band music. Make it sound like a college football game!!!!!!!!!! -
There is a cap by the NEC. Correct me if I'm wrong but I think its 30. Right now only 8 have been given out, but split amongst 20 players. What is stopping us from being full scholly is our league contract and the want to not rush into anything. I think by 2009 we will be full scholly, maybe even earlier if the America East football conference comes to fruition as we have been hearing.

UA beats Delaware
danefan replied to UAFAN's topic in Fall Sports-Football, Soccer, Volleyball, Cross-Country, Field Hockey
I don't think you could actually sell out with the hill seating and all. Anything over 7,000 is huge. Sacred Heart homecoming game in 2001 was about 6,000+ and the biggest crowd I've seen in recent years. -

Hate to dwell on the past....but anyone see the Fordham game? Columbia ruined Fordham 37-7. Damn fireworks night! -
UA beats Delaware
danefan replied to UAFAN's topic in Fall Sports-Football, Soccer, Volleyball, Cross-Country, Field Hockey
Too tough to compare. Its almost like UA being a 14 seed in the tournament and beating a 3 seed. Not a 16 beating a 1, but in my mind a 13 or 14 beating a 3 or 4. Delaware was ranked 11th Nationally in the IAA before this, but that was basically based on last year because they had only played a crappy team the first week. These wins vs. Lehigh and Delware will look better or worse when the season plays on depending on how the other teams do. -
Not sure if this has been talked about on here yet, and I'm sure the guys who go to AGS have seen it, but............................. Central Conn. went to Georgia Southern (#16) and beat them 17-13!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Biggest win for NEC ever!!!!!!!!! UA better get its head out of its a$$ or else we are gonna get whooped up in conference play.

tailgating
danefan replied to statefan's topic in Fall Sports-Football, Soccer, Volleyball, Cross-Country, Field Hockey
well some of the recent football alumni (myself included) usually tailgate in the RACC parking lot (south west corner). This saturday may not be ideal though because the parking lot will undoubtedly be packed because of the soccer game. No set plans yet, but last year we got to the first game at noon, which ended up too long of a time with beer and hot sun mixed. I think we are looking at about 2 or 3ish on Saturday. -
No one can say the school has made a committment to athletics. $$$ wise at least. http://www.albany.edu/sports/dashboard.pdf Almost tripled the budget in 6 years. And what a clear correlation to on-field sucess.

I take that back. It may need to start at 1:00 to get a spot. There is a soccer game at 2:00. -

Sports Network has us at #2. http://www.sportsnetwork.com/default.asp?c...N-MID-MAJOR.htm I hope we have at least 6,000 at the game this weekend. Tailgating in the parking lot at 3pm!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! -
I've come to the conclusion that the TU is worthless for sports coverage. No reason to worry about it anymore. Maybe we should focus our attention on the Gazzette. This may be an opportunity for the Gazzette to take some subscribers away from the TU. Plus the beat writers at the Gazzette were always more knowledgeable then Singleas when I played anyway.

Albany (NY)
danefan replied to KingDane's topic in Fall Sports-Football, Soccer, Volleyball, Cross-Country, Field Hockey
Its like that because of Albany State in Georgia. The same as Miami (OH) vs. Miami (FL). -
Only saw the first half of the game..did Kurt see any action? The Packs couldn't really do any worse than they did in the first half, so I figured he'd see some time. 15813[/snapback] I watched until the lightning delay. Not sure if they came back or not after that, but I didn't see him in there before that. The delay came with 9:00 minutes left in the 4th quarter. Oh man...either the Bengals are really really good...or the more likely scenario...the Packers are really really really bad.

Looks like Singleas is reading this board now..... http://www.timesunion.com/AspStories/story...sdate=8/28/2006 Anyone have any other story ideas for him??? I propose basic coverage of our football team that I think has a pretty big game coming up in the near future. Oh yeah, thats right we play this weekend. I almost forgot.

"UALBANY FOOTBALL PREPARES FOR SEASON OPENER WITH FINAL SCRIMMAGE Albany, N.Y. – The University at Albany football team conducted its final intrasquad scrimmage of the preseason on Thursday, Aug. 24 on the Western Avenue practice fields. Head coach Bob Ford is preparing a squad that was picked with Central Connecticut State as the favorites to win this year's Northeast Conference championship. "We learned today that we still have a ways to go on offense," offered Ford, who ran a brisk two-hour afternoon workout. "I was very impressed with our defense, especially when you consider we rested four starters. We were able to look at several combinations on the offensive line and our tailbacks ran the ball well. I am still looking for consistent production from our wide receivers." Highlights from the scrimmage include quarterback Daniel Bocanegra's 30-yard touchdown pass to flanker Mike Wall and reserve cornerback C.J. Ross' 52-yard fumble return for another score. Placekicker Jason Fralicker booted a 43-yard goal on the opening offensive series.(emphasis added) The Great Danes, who have 17 starters returning from a team that won five of its last six games one year ago, begin their season against Patriot League member Lehigh in Bethlehem, Pa. on Saturday, Sept. 2." We haven't had a kicker that could hit a 40+ yarder in some time. I like it!

New Stadium
danefan replied to Clickclack's topic in Fall Sports-Football, Soccer, Volleyball, Cross-Country, Field Hockey
I think there will be some naming opportunities, but with the public funding making up a large portion of the money I have to imagine there will be some restrictions thereon. Dane96 will be able to tell us wthether or not this is true. How about GE stadium?????????? Maybe one of the largest company's in the world can give back to a community that it has benefited greatly from. What's a few million bucks to GE...a rounding error.
