Kurt Campbell drafted by Green Bay. 7th Round, 31st pick (245 Overall)

Listening to Sirius radio - they were excited that a Great Dane was picked. Mentioned that they have several UA people working there including Doug Mortman (I think he did play by play last year)

That's terrific. I checked about halfway through the 7th round and was starting give up hope.

First ranked team at Albany, first player drafted by the NFL, barring the contract stuff it's been a pretty good spring so far.

Kurt will be interviewed on Big Board Sports at 11:30 tonight (TV-13). Andrew Catalon said Gudmundsen is expected to be offered a free agent contract within a week.

Great day for Ford, the program and the University - not to mention Campbell and Geir.

 

Geir signing tonight was important - generally free agents sign the night of the draft (maybe within 24 hours). Some may sign later in the week but that is rare.

im so excited its not even funny. Im happy for Campbell and Geir, for Bob, for the University for everything...THIS IS WHAT IVE ALWAYS WISHED FOR THIS UNIVERSITY...ITS GREAT.

Interesting - nothing on the NEC site. I think this may be the first NEC player ever drafted.

 

Maybe they don't do updates on the weekends? Maybe it's because Albany is an associate member?

its not the first...guy in 2002 got drafted from NEC

Story in today's TU about both Campbell and Gudmundsen. 1st Dane drafted-TU. The Packers and Bills play a preseason game this year.

I forgot Deveren Johnson - he almost single handedly beat Albany that year. I think he had about 200 yards receiving.

 

I think he became a Cowboys practice player and was busted for drugs at an airport - not sure if he is still around.

This should help our recruiting efforts in a BIG BIG way. 63 full rides a renovated University field and the potential to be drafted will be very appealing to a lot of kids that may be leaning toward other programs.

Someone recently posted that McElroy stated 2007 as the start of scholarship football - forget who made the post. That date makes sense as the NEC agreement expires in 2006.
