Dion Lewis - "Does UAlbany Football or UAlbany Sports need to constantly remind coaches how to conduct themselves?"

What someone does in their own time, should be their own business as long as that activity does not cross that hidden line.  I am of the opinion Dion has crossed that hidden line for a second time, in particular when he is interacting with student-athletes that are expected to abide by a higher standard.  Dion has placed Guttuso and Benson in a difficult position.

Ex-NFL player Lewis banned

UAlbany assistant coach involved in fight at strip club

Retired NFL running back Dion Lewis, now a University at Albany football assistant coach, was thrown out of Nite Moves Gentlemen’s Club in Lath-am during a June 11 altercation that drew a response from Colonie police.

A member of Nite Moves’ security staff told police Lewis punched him in the side of the head as he tried to remove Lewis from the club, according to an incident report. The staff member declined to pursue charges against Lewis, but asked that Lewis be banned from the club.

“Mr. Lewis was verbally advised that he is no longer welcome at that establishment, so he could face a trespass charge if he returns there,” Colonie Police Lt. Daniel J. Belles said.

The incident, which occurred around 2 a.m., began when staff suspected Lewis was using his phone inside of the bar in violation of club rules, according to the report. Asked to leave, Lewis threw money in the face of the security staff member, who attempted to physically remove Lewis, the report stated. The club’s manager called the police.

Efforts to reach Lewis, a former Albany High and Albany Academy star, through his agent, J.R. Rickert, were unsuccessful.

Nite Moves co-owner Stephen Dick Jr. said he wasn’t at the club that night and wasn’t aware the customer was Lewis, who spent 10 seasons in the NFL, including stops with the Patriots, Titans and Giants. He earned a Super Bowl ring in New England.

“I had only heard a couple of semi-regular customers were there with a group,” Dick wrote in a Facebook message. “They snuck in alcohol. Were told they couldn’t. Did it again. Then one may have been trying to record stage. We do not allow phones in floor for that reason. Floor host approached him and told him he had to go. He gave him a hard time. Customer’s friend may have instigated. Customer threw singles at floor host’s face. He tried to remove him and the 2 wrestled.”

Dick said he couldn’t say for certain about any punches being thrown. He said an employee had a large scratch on his arm.

“The staff said it was very out of character for the customers,” he wrote.

Lewis, 32, retired as an NFL player in August 2021. Four months later, he was arrested and charged with driving while intoxicated in Guilderland. At the time, he had recently been named Albany County’s community health wellness coordinator. He no longer works for the county.

UAlbany hired Lewis in March as an assistant running backs coach. He played at the University of Pittsburgh when current UAlbany head coach Greg Gattuso was an assistant with the Panthers.

Gattuso, who has been on vacation, texted he has "no idea what happened" with Lewis’ incident at Nite Moves. Gattuso said he's looking into it.

The Times Union is reporting that Dion Lewis is no longer associated with the UAlbany Football program.  Our Head Coach declined to answer the reason for his departure.  The on-line article referenced Dion Lewis as a volunteer coach.

I was told that place has delicious food (and I smelled it often driving past as I lived 5 minutes from there). Why would anyone be upset with a place that has delicious food is beyond me. (/s - I'm obviously being facetious)
