  1. "...safe and exciting return to competition for our fall sports during the spring.' Does this include football?
  2. I know it's a bit of trivia but I like these coincidental things . . . such as Karl Mofor's brother Mike-Ryan (I think 1 year older) is the workhorse starting RB for the unbeaten Salisbury State (D-3) Sea Gulls who pounded Union College yesterday 62-41 . . . had 144 yards on 20 carries and 3 TDs . . . I'd love to see Karl and Mike-Ryan as kids playing tag in the yard.
  3. Regarding the FB program, I get nervous whenever anyone says we should win again this week . . .too many disappointments along the way. Something will have to give: especially in rushing yardage -- Monmouth kept Lafayette to -12 yards rushing (while gaining 223 themselves), but MU also gave up 256 passing (and got 194 themselves). (Apparently, UA and MU match evenly in home opener attendance, though.) Street & Smith's picked MU to win the Big South.
  4. In my lame defense -- I did make a "D" in the only serious math course I had to take decades ago, and that was pretty much a gift from a sympathetic prof. I'm just happy that they won a league championship (even the MAAC) and are on to the NCAA's.
  5. If I read all the stats correctly, the UAlbany women's golf team won the MAAC championship down in Florida -- 27 strokes ahead of Dayton and Quinnipiac, and 40 strokes ahead of Siena in 4th.
  6. About Alex James . . . just to clarify: can FCS players transfer to other FCS schools without having to sit out a year?
  7. Yes indeed . . . the bosun's whistle is blowing . . . all hands on deck!
  8. I'm proud of the way the new coach and the team have persevered after that 1-9 start. And doing so with 4-5 players short of a full time, is that right? Shows they have brought into the system. Promising years ahead for both women and men.
  9. Meanwhile, BC is 6-0, with a win at Houston, 26-point win over Holy Cross.
  10. Sorry to go off subject but I'm curious about this . . . didn't Trpcic (sp?) transfer to UC-Davis? If so, do D-1 women have to sit out a year? I ask because I looked at the UC-Davis women's team stats, and she doesn't appear anywhere in them.
  11. Now it's -7, with Maine getting the ball again in good field position. Embarrassing.
  12. UA looks like the No. 12 team in CAA. Hard to determine watching on the screen, but it looks like the Danes have almost no fire lit.
  13. Dev Holmes is the CAA football ROW this week . . . it would be nice to get another big game from him (and VT throwing to him) because it seems this is not the URI of past years. This could be a tough game.
  14. How well does Hartford draw usually? I say "usually" because they have special promotion tomorrow afternoon with $1 tickets . . . that's right, $1 a ticket. It happens because Gallagher recently won his 100th game there, so the Ath Dept is selling "100-cent" tickets. When I saw that online at the ticket site, I was so confused that I called the ticket office, had a nice chat with the guy in charge there, and he explained it. Said they are "hoping" for a large crowd.
  15. Slightly off topic but this is from Memphis, so . . .. Ahmad Clark taking a shot from the nosebleed section . . . https://dailygazette.com/article/2017/12/12/ualbany-s-clark-makes-crazy-trick-shot
  16. Aha! My confusion comes from my increasing inability to read calendars . . . I looked at the WBB schedule t hat clearly lists the tournament in mid-December, and somehow I translated that into mid-November (which the Iowa release is about). This is happening with me too frequently but that's another story . . . let's hope the tourney is still on for the WBB (and at the same time, let's hope PR has begun to recover by then) . . .
  17. P.S. I just emailed the same question to John Reilly, who handles media comms for the WBB. Being Sunday, I don't expect a reply today, (His email is jpreilly@albany.edu)
  18. Has anyone heard anything about what the WBB schedule will be since the San Juan Tournament (both women's and men's) has been cancelled due to extensive damage to buildings, loss of power, and, well, everything else we have read about the devastation in PR. We were scheduled to play our own version of a "Directional Illinois Challenge" -- playing first Southern Illinois, then Northern Illinois. That is still on the WBB schedule available at the UA site. A Univ. Iowa WBB press release from Oct. 4 explains that the tournament was moved to Fort Lauderdale for Nov. 22-24, but the release gives just the Iowa games and opponents, and does not list other teams scheduled to be in the tournament (such as UA). I did only a quick search because I have to leave soon, so maybe someone else can find more exact info online, or, eventually, from UA Athletics.
  19. Agree completely. The product is overpriced for this market, even just to sit on the berm. Hello, ESPN 3.
  20. Hooray! (I think . . . this is an improvement, isn't it? Maybe Pete will act like he actually wants to be doing this . .. )
  21. Interesting and encouraging for Joe with some of the SU and other talent there . . . and this name from the past: E. J. Gallup, still putting it up and through a lot . . . he must be somewhere in his mid-to-late 30s? Remember that Siena game when he scored something like 40 (most of the team's points, if I remember correctly -- he shot NONSTOP, it seems) . . . was that near the end for Scott Beteen? Remember those dark, dark days early in the program, and the mess Beteen left, and the fortitude and skill and vision that Will had in order to take over and bring us to where we have been and are?
  22. Enjoyable, informative article. . . a great "get"!! He seems level-headed, with a good sense of humor, and of course loyalty (to family, to UA) goes a long way! Gives us a lot to look forward to with him here in 2018 with Joe and David as well-experienced seniors!
