1. http://www.allcoachnetwork.com/members.html Also nice to see that both Albany college basketball coaches have links on the coaches network. That of coarse would be D1 UA Will Brown and D2 St. Rose Brian Beaury
2. As far as I know, we are still scheduled to play them this season in December. The dicussions (on the board) were whether we should move the game to be part of their failed tournament or not take part in the the failed tournament and leave the game as a stand alone game.
3. Patch, you are right about the Siena faithful spinning it. But it certainly is fun from the outside to watch them fail again. My feelings are from an Albany standpoint we should only play them the one game a year and keep our distance from Siena the rest of the time. It can't help you to associate with them.
4. And I guess I was unsophisticated because I thought we should look at all schedule options including guarentee games and make Siena first prove this was a worthwhile event. In the end Siena true colors show and they couldn't even "prove" to 2 schools that it was a worthwhile event to participate in.
5. I would guess the Siena fans were are too busy following their other sports teams. Nah, that can't be it. Besides I have been to 13 baseball games outside of the state of NY in the last 11 days and I got the news last week thanks to this board.
6. The baseball team is the number 4 seed and will play Vermont at 7 PM on thursday.
7. Good post. It is quite obvious that they are threaten by us and are afraid that we will leave them in the dust in their "one" sport. Let's face it the rest of their athletic program is a joke. If UA was as poor as their posters claim, they wouldn't even want us in their challenge. However since that clearly is not the case, they are whining the loss of UA from their challenge as UA could give the event credibility that is clearly lacking at this time. In my opinion, given Siena's track record any proposal from Siena should be looked at skeptically. As I stated before, there is no reason to jump into this challenge until it is proven that is not a joke. I would expect with the rule changes there are going to be more not less choices for real tournaments in the upcoming seasons.
8. Sorry, can't make this trip, but hope to make Utah, UConn, most of the AE.
9. According to the radio here in texas, we lost 2-0
10. I find it ammusing that the tournament in Orlando is to have a champion unlike the propose tournament hosted in the Knick!
11. Shocker of all shockers....when you wait until May to start scheduling a tournament, quality teams are already scheduled...the tournament in theory could be a decent idea, but I say wait until next year and do this thing right. Don't put together a half-assed tournament with half-decent teams!!!! 14589 The tournament in theory could be a decent idea, but it would help if someone competent was running it instead of Siena or the MAAC!
12. I think that if you were to check the Siena board you would find that there is far less disparaging comments about Albany over there than there is about Siena on this board. A prime example exists in this thread and in the MAAC tourney thread, such as "loundonville community College" or "Sienna" or sarcastically referring to the "gala event". Personally it's hard to take posters seriously when that happens. Enjoy your offseason, and see you at the "Challenge". 14537 Gorvy, you are entitled to your opinion. However, FYI, Penn State 2006 Baseball yearbook reports a 1-0 all-time series record vs Sienna on page 90. I take Penn State a lot more seriously than Siena. When I went to a Siena baseball game earlier this season they didn't even have rosters available for the fans.
13. Siena Glen. Give me a break with 2. Do you not think call people fools and unsophisticated because they have a different opinion than you isn't name calling.
14. Well at least he understands something. He doesn't seem to understand why some fans want no part of Siena's/Maac little tournament. "But you get 4 games without leaving Albany" . He can't understand that some Sophisticated fans ask what kind of games is his little tourney going to get. He can't understand that there are a lot of possible better games than what this little tournament could provide. 14494 Honestly, I don't think we should be knocking this tournament just yet. I'm more then willing to give it a chance, who knows maybe it will be a great event. 14495 Hey, you are entitled to your opinion. I am coming from the other side of the argument when I take the position that we don't need to rush into this event. Show us some proof first that it is a quality event.

16. Another Good point State fan. Will we have to pay twice as much as our regular seats in Albany for a worse seat in the Knick for a team no better than teams we see now at the raac?
17. The Bracket Buster is also dependent on an outside organization for team selection. 14464 While the bracketbuster is also dependent on outside organizations to match you up, we got a quality opponent and a TV game. Neither of which is likely in this Siena tourney. ESPN has certainly made it worthwhile to participate in bracketbuster. I don't see Siena making this worthwhile to participate.
18. That is the problem with this tournament. There are limited specifics except for that we would play 3 games in the Knick. And sure you get 2 extra games. But what good are they if they are against a sub 200 RPI team in an empty building. I have posted a few times previously about playing in arena that size in front of a 4,000 crowd and what makes Siena think this games are going to draw any better than that even for their game if it is against a weak opponent. There is no atromospere at all with a crowd of 4,000 in that building. As an Albany fan I rather defer to Coach Brown , Dr McElroy and the rest of UA to schedule our games than the Loudonville Community college. UA has done a good job having put us in the vastly more regonized Coaches vs. Cancer tournament last year vs. Florida in addition to the trip to California last year, Notre Dame, Pittsburg and UConn to just name a few. I don't know what the other options are but personally I rather Albany built their program with real home games against the best teams possible and with nationally recognized tournaments and teams when possible.
19. Patch I don’t think there is any question, Siena fans would not support the opposite bracket in droves. You’d get some die-hards there, but not that many. I would guess if Alb choose not to play in the tournament, A combination of Vermont and Marist ( both teams fans base travel well)in the opposite bracket would bring in close to as many fans as Ualb would. Although obviously from a tournament POV having Albany in the tournament is much more desirable 14425 My understanding is that the NCAA only allows 1 team per conference in a tournament like this. If that is correct, Marist can't help you with the dismal attendance if Albany doesn't play. Yes, Vermont travels well. But, they certainly travel better for NCAA tournament games and conference tournament games as compared to a potentially weak meaningless tournament. Remember, as proposed now there is not even going to be a tournament winner
20. I have heard coutside are sold out. Chairbacks are not completely sold out, but they are sellling well.
21. the two deserve each other. 14344 Just think about what kind of a sports section the TU could have if they spent $350,000 a year covering sports instead of paying $350,000 a year to put their name on an arena whose primary tenants are a minor league hockey team and a minor league indoor football team.
22. Not only was the deal not a good one for UA, it was not a good one for the fans. Tickets were $34.50 for the Syracuse game at the Knick. I went because I go to all the home games, but it really wasn't worth that kind of money. I am sure that was part of what kept the attendence to 8 or 9 thousand.
23. I think the Albany-Siena game should be a stand alone game and not be part of this tournament. What is the point of the tournament anyway. They are talking about having no tournament winner and none of the teams they are talking about in the paper are big names or even top notch mid majors with the exception of a possible CAA team. It is not like that caliber teams draws well now. Look at how many empty seats you have in the Knick/Pepsi/TBA Arena now when you a MAAC game there without Siena. Are they going to play all 8 teams there on a Saturday. Only a die hard would go to 4 games in a day. Or doubleheaders back to back days. The non Siena day would be lucky to draw 2000 with the caliber of team they are talking about. Let the Albany-Siena game draw 8,000-10,000 on its own, the Siena piece of the tourney draw 4,000 - 5,000, the non Siena piece draw 2,000 and keep our schedule as is or get an extra couple of games with a couple of teams at that level with out getting Siena involved if the following quote in the TU is accurate. According to the TU article, "Schools that play in exempt tournaments can play 27 regular-season games, not including the tournament.Schools not in multi-team tournaments now can play up to 29 regular-season games " Sounds like the 4 game tournament will now be adding ONLY 1 game to a season schedue. 4 games counting as 1 + 26 other regular season games for a total of 30 vs 29.
