1. My feelings on the subject are: It is amusing to read their board. Their concern with us is always greater when they lose than when they win. Since they actually won last night, I figure they will talk less about our team for a few days. I found it amusing how much talk there was about our crowd of 4500 last weekend. I noticed their announced crowd last night was about 4600. Since I wasn't there I don't know if there really were 4600 people there last night or if it was only announced so it was bigger than our crowd. In any event, the atmosphere of a crowd of 4500 in a building with a capacity of 4500 is always better than a similar size crowd in a building with a capacity of 13,000 or 14,000. For that reason I hope most of our games are played on campus. I even would rather occassionly play the Siena game on campus then move more games to the Knick. I thought all of the campus (Stony Brook, Binghamton, Marist ,Hartford, Notre Dame, UCLA, San Diego St, Syracuse just to name a few) I visited had added something to the game that a county owned arena does not have. Lastly, I disagree with B9j2j6s statemnt that most of Siena fans are good fans. I would say some of them are but not most. This is the same fan base that could not leave the building fast enough when down by 6 to UAB in the NIT game 3 or 4 yrs ago instead of waiting an extra 30 seconds to give the team a deserved cheer for a well played NIT run. The fan conduct was not an issolated instance.
2. I certainly hope Will Brown is brought back and we continue to improve as we have the last few years. If for some reason he is not brought back Deane is among the last people I would like see coaching UAlbany
3. Some one should check Smoky Bones. I think they have ESPNU. I am not sure about Guiness. But they have Sam Adams and some other decent beers. I'll may watch the game there or at home now that it is on Friday and I can't go.
4. We are technically up by 2 in the standings. However it is 3 in the win column and 1 in the loss column since Bingo has played 2 less games. They play today vs Maine and have a league game the weekend we are at bracketbuster.
5. The VCU womens game actually is actually scheduled for Friday night 2/17 but stranger things have happened than ESPN telling a school to move a womens game. That being said, I had also heard the game is likely to be Saturday.
6. My understanding is the date and time get announced on Tuesday. I am hoping for a saturday game so I don't have to take any time off work. Once the time is announced I will be making plans for our game. Will make a weekend of it and will catch at least 1 other game in the Richmond area
7. If I read the bracket buster correctly, there were 100 teams eligible from 18 conferences. The 26 TV teams are from 12 conferences. Therefore 6 conferences have no teams in the TV game which means no Siena fan can correctly say UA made the game because they needed a TV game from each conference. Bucknell (patroit) at Northern Iowa (missouri valley) George Mason (caa) at Wichita State (missouri valley) Missouri St(missouri valley) at at Wisconsin-Milwaukee (horizon) Louisiana Tech (western athletic) at Southern Illinois (missouri valley) Buffalo (mac) at Iona (maac) Fresno St(wac) at at Creighton (missouri valley) Akron (mac) at Nevada (western athletic) Butler (horizon) at Kent State (mac) Marist (maac) at Old Dominion (caa) Northwestern St(southland) at at Utah State (western athletic) Samford (ohio valley) at Ohio (mac) Albany (ae) at Virginia Commonwealth (caa) Northern Arizona (big sky) at Western Kentucky (sun belt) VCU is 14-5 overall and 8-3 in the CAA.
8. The official time and distance from UA to VCU is 7 hours 35 minutes and 493 miles accourding to AAA.com. It is 150 miles from UMBC. It took me a little more tham 5 hours to get to UMBC the last time I went there. Also it has taken me as long as 3 hours to go 60 miles around DC. Last time I drove south I hit it at the wrong time and did not move more than 30 miles on hour for almost 3 hours for no reason other than volume. Here is hoping we get a Saturday game as opposed to a Friday night. If the game is Saturday I am there!!!
9. Because I was doing it in jest, though SienaT had to get all high and mighty. Because it is my right to do so and it gave me some enjoyment. 11465 I agree , It is fun to push Siena T buttons and for him to get all high and mighty. And I love how 1 OT game on December 3rd determines who is better for the whole season. It is as if Siena fans can't comprehend that some teams improve as the season goes along (UA with Lillis healthy and the recent contributions from Siggers) while others do not due to injures or other factors.(Manhattan)
10. Patchy why so bitter? I never said Albany wasn't building a program? I have the utmost respect for the Albany program and wish it nothing but the best, and I have never thought otherwise. In fact in searching for Siena's bracket buster opponent I came across the link that said Albany would have a TV game. All I did was come to this board and post the link. This is mid major basketball, some of you Albany whacks need to take a chill pill, All I’ve been is attacked by those of you too weak minded to put together a logical post. I'll be at my seat at the Pepsi tonight watching Siena take on yet another top 100 league foe... enjoy your bracket buster game!!! 11453 As the NCAA would say RPI is just one tool they use in the selection process. I don't think Manhattan is still in the top 100 without their best player. At the end of the year we will see if the NIT thinks Manhattan is in the top 100. Also at this point ESPN thinks Albany is worthy of a TV game while Manhattan is not. Perhaps they too take more than just the RPI into account.
11. I'll be there also. Not sure of my location, but probably in 101 also. 101 is right behind the UA bench. It is also on the side that has more leg room. For some reason Binghamton built 2 extra rows on one side of the arena which really squeezed the seats. The side with no leg room of coarse was the side they put us in last year for the tourny. Have already ordered tixs this year for the bench side.
12. That has been the recent history. In the old days some teams used to go to the MAAC. Some of those fans of a team that joined the MAAC are still bitter. http://www.americaeast.com/local/history.htm
13. Us finishing in 1st with Binghamton dropping to 3rd would also mean not facing them in Binghamton
14. Amen! 11201 Hey, of coarse the projected brackets don't mean anything. You have to play the games. However part of what is making this season fun is this is the first time we are in contention for the league NCAA berth. It is also is a lot more fun to look at projected brackets when it shows who UA "may" play and where UA would play should UA be the one to win the AE than it was to look at the projected brackets when we had no chance of being in the tournament.
15. Yes, I understand that they are missing Reed and perhaps I overreacted to the Maine fan calling the team we just beat for the FIRST time the most overrated team in the league. However, Maine is not just losing. They lost their last 2 games by 20 or so points.
16. Amazingly, they still don't know if he will be out for the Vermont game on Sunday??? I take it that your players have recovered from the Bofia beat down? Nice win over the Terriers in Beantown, easily the most overrated team in America East. 11140 Really, the preseason coachs poll had BU in second in the AE and Maine in 3rd. Maine even got a first place vote, so clearly though the games of January 12th, Maine is the most overrtaed team in the league.
17. I am going to the Binghamton game baring a snow storm. Won't be going to the Maine game, but peobably will be going to the Hartford game
18. JHU is inside the beltway in north B-more, UMBC on the southwest - about 10 miles. Like going from UAlbany to RPI. 10742 Yes according to AAA website it is 13 miles from Johns Hopkins to UMBC. Also Camden Yards and thus the inner harbor are approximately 6-8 miles from each school. I have never been to Johns Hopkins although I saw them play at Towson last year. UMBC was easy to get to . Sounds like a good trip. I may end up seeing you down there. BTW, the only thing I don't like about the schedule as stated previously is that we are opening the new lacrosse filed while many of us will be in Binghamton. It doesn't even matter if our game is at night in Binghamton. I go for the whole tournament.
19. . After reading and hearing all the nonsense in the media this past offseason, I think Siena fans have a right to relish in this victory. Most of us are not intentionally rubbing it in the face of UAlabny fans, but rather the media who basically had wriiten us off this season. I think the mere fact that we are so excited about this victory is a testament to the progress that the Danes have made. Three years ago I EXPECTED the Saints to win and win big. Yesterday I was very nervous even with the Saints large lead early in the second half. All in all, it was a great day of basketabll for the Capital Region. BTW, Siena has accomplished much more than what you have wriiten above as I am sure you are aware of. 10696 Hey, I have no problem with complaints about the media. I have a problem with the arrogance on the Siena board and some of the fans in general. I have complaints about the media too. The amount of coverage given to such a poor Siena team last year would just be one of them. As far as predictions by the media and coaches, there is way too much stock put on them. As far as Siena being expected to do poorly, it wasn't just the media. All 10 MAAC coaches picked Siena last. Aren't these the people who supposedly know the MAAC the best. Obviously this was based on last years 6-24 and minimal additions. So shoot the messenger, the media was wrong so far. BTW, I caught some of the UCLA- UAlbany game on the rerun on FSW2(I was at the game so I only saw a little of the broadcast) and must say there is a world of difference between those announcers and any of them in our area. As a matter of fact I sent an email to Doug Sherman telling him to watch the tape of that game in order to get a better idea on how to do a game.
20. For all you on the above post who root for Siena when they are not playing us, I suggest you take a look at the arrogance on the Siena board. I never seen a lack of knowledge and class in a larger proportion from any other teams fan base. Nor have I seen a fan base more arrogant than Siena fans in any sport and that includes Yankee fans whose team's actually accomplish things more than 1 second round appearance in 30years. Again, I will never root for that team and it has been because of their fans. Sure they have some good fans but sadly those fans are out numbered by the ignorant jerks.
21. You absolutely do NOT have to root for Siena Ever. Given the lack of class by a large part of the Siena fan base in the last 5 -to 10 years I see no reason to ever root for them.
22. UAlbany At UCLA is listed on DirecTV for Tuesday at 10:30 PM Eastern on Channel 653. Whether these idiots show the game or black it out like the Florida game is not known to me. When the Florida game was not shown the lady I talked to at DirecTV while nice did not give me accurate or relevant information as to why the game was not on. For the record the ULCA game is also in the listings to rebrocast on the same channel 653 on Wednesday at 2:30 AM and 5:00 PM.
23. The game is listed on Direct TV on channel 634. I don't know if it would be blacked out in Albany or if you need ESPN game plan to get it or what . If anyone knows let me know. Many sports bar in the area have Direct TV and not time warner.
