1. The Tu can not afford to pay reporter to cover sports as they are saving their money to bid to name the local arena that is home to a minor league hockey team and a minor legue arena football team
2. Albany bounced back Staurday with a 5-1 victory to move back into a tie for first place
3. 14118 Tony, I fully understand what you are saying. I don't agree with it. 1) Yes I know you have the ARC. My point is real colleges can build a new on campus arena when the out grow their old one. 2) "Siena will never be the visitors at the Pepsi" Other people have already pointed out that that is incorrect. 3) You are comparing a 30 year established program to one in its 7th year that went to the NCAA for the first time. Yet you think Siena is going to get the attendence bump next year. Obvoisly you are not that bright. Siena will get some increase because they had a better year than the prevoius year, but not like if they actually went to the NCAA. But if Albany gets even a little bump to 3,000 Siena will be lucky to double Albany attendence even with our fans counted in your attendance. Sorry if you are too slow to understand the point. It is when is the last time you filled your arena. Answer against Syracuse who brought more fans to the game than Siena. Therefore your school has more incentive to treat visiting teams better. You treat a visiting team right, you get many more fans. If you get a team like Syracuse or Albany you sell a lot more tickets than you normally would. Which part of that don't YOU understand. Now I never was talking about changing the current contract. I just was talking about in the future we OUGHT to get a better contract. A Home game in The RAAC Or a Bowl like neutral game in the To be renamed arena. Your school wants to drop Albany beacuse you don't want to be embarrassed like 2 years ago, that is fine with me. I'll take an extra home game or a trip to UCLA, Notre Dame among others over a trip to the Knick any day and you can enjoy spreading out among an extra 3,000 or 4,000 empty seats. 4) Siena beat Albany in OT so it is not like they dominated. We will see what happens this year, but I expect a competitive game that could go either way. Obviously early season games are tough on everyone getting players used to new roles, teammates etc. Our team did not handle the beginning of the schedule well last season. It was their first time in the history of the program out of the underdog role and I never take away form you the fact that you won THAT game. It is how that translates to other years that I disagree with you. Albany started handling the favorite role quite well later in the season. With 7 of the top 10 players back plus the new recruits I like our chances.
4. Same old garbage from Tony. 1) The to be renamed arena is NOT Siena's home court. It is rented from the county of Albany since Siena is TOO LAME to actually have a home court like most colleges and universities. Siena's rights end at whatever the county agrees to. Again is it any surprise that no major corporation wants to pay money to name an arena that either Siena or the River Rats are the primary tenant. 2) The Giants have been visitors at a stadium named after them. Surely Siena/Albany could be a neutral court game like a bowl game in a few years when Albany's support passes Siena's. That may not take all that long. 3) You got one thing right. Obviously the key to the success of the tournament is to have some top teams since Siena rarely come close to filling the building on their own. 4)In spite of the fact that Tony knows nothing about Albany's returning players and in coming class he makes predictions about results. Hope you are not betting the rent money on Siena.
5. Well there is another difference between the Giants/Jets vs Siena/Albany. It is that only 3 out of the 4 teams could sell out the home building for the mentioned rivalry game. In other words the Giants already sell out all tickets to the game to their ticket holders. So do the jets. So could Albany at their home as evidenced by the sellout of 2 big games last season. Only Siena needs help to fill their seats and since they need so much help filling the seats, I think it is fair to split the arena down the middle like you do for a bowl game. I am assuming even Siena fans who don't have a football team do know what a bowl game is. As far as a building not being big enough for a rivalry game. That is a fact of life in many big rivalries. For example neither Duke or Carolina's arenas are big enough for their rivalry game.
6. I don't think anyone is suggesting we move our home games to the Knick/to be renamed arena. I think the discussion is who should be the home team in the Albany-Loundonville game at the building rented from Albany county taxpayers. I certainly would not want to play our home games there at this time. Anyone who has been to both Albany and Siena games knows that 4,000 in the raac is a hell of a lot better than 4,000 in the Knick.
7. Hey, who's spinning anything, I'm referring to UAlum and now Patch who said that they just want to build leverage to "walk away". And I see no one bothered to respond to my question: If you had the arena as your home base would you give it up to be the away team in a game? I think not, just admit it. You are getting a great deal being able to play in front of that many fans each year, just enjoy it. And don't think that we can't get other programs to come to the Pepsi and draw 10K, because we can and have done so in the past. So, it won't be a big deal to us if it's not worth it to you. A 2 for 1 deal, you can't be serious. You guys have vast resources, why don't you just build your own on campus arena. Playing at the Pepsi isn't all its cracked up to be according to some of our own fans. If you had a bigger gym you could easily draw more than Siena and your program could better position itself for a possible Big East invite once conference re-alignment comes along. Just a suggestion. JG 14066 Must be a lot of programs out there with Seniors from the Albany area that are big draws or do you actually think it was the impressive Siena college that drew Syracuse to the Knick during Forth's senior year. Also, I am sure there is nothing in the Albany-Loundonville deal preventing Loundonville from getting another opponent that could draw 10k for one of their other non conference games. Let me know when you get one of those games. As Albany continues to improve this point will become moot. Our fans already are louder than Loundonville and were close in numbers at last years game. UA crowds have been increasing while Siena's have been decreasing. At some point we could outdraw Siena in their own building like Syracuse did a couple of years ago. Well not quite their own building since Loundonville doesn't have one but it certainly sounds better than saying at some point we could outdraw them in their rental property.
8. If this is true , is it any surprise the county is having problems selling new naming rights to the arena.
9. I have no problem wearing purple t-shirts. It is green I can't stand to wear even on the rare time when I root for a green team such as this past weekend when I rooted for the Michigan St hockey team over UNH.
10. Thanks for the info '92...anyone familiar with the show know what time during those 4 hours he might be most likely to have Coach Brown on? 13632 He has been cancelled until next week.
11. Thanks for the info '92...anyone familiar with the show know what time during those 4 hours he might be most likely to have Coach Brown on? 13632 Have not found the info yet. But I am told guest generally don't go on real early. I'll put the show on when I wake up at 7 tomorrow morning and if they give the time before I head to work at 8 I'll post it.
12. Nope, I am sure I also was part of pissing them off and I'll let someone else correct their errors today. Monday was enough when one of their fans got me going with some ridiculous comparison of how Albany would do against Marist, Manhattan and Iona as opposed to Siena who would win 3 out of 5 vs. those 3 schools except for the FACT they lost 5 out of 6. I pointed out that Albany has beaten Siena more recently than Siena has had a winning record vs Marist, Manhattan and Iona. And of coarse they like to start their crap on taxpayer built arenas. Well enough on them.
13. MTS, which part of Wyland's statement was full of crap? The part in which he said Fran wasn't leaving, the part where he said it was nice for Siena to sign coach Fran or some other part?
14. I listened to Murphy and he was upset no one was talking to him.. He closed the show disappointed saying that tomorrow he hopes to have someone on to discuss the deal but by then the TU would have beat him to it. He was upset and I was loving every second. 13580 I think Murph forgot something at the alumni house....some type of human "bird." 13582 I guess I wasn't the only one at the alumni house before the conference championship game who thought Murphy is an Ass.
15. I don't think many are focusing on Loundonville right now. Even the TU is giving us some coverage (in the amateur way that is the TU) instead of focusing on DAY 11 of Loundonville's off-season
16. Thanks to all posting the articles. The NY papers real put the TU to shame
17. Would Duell transferring to Loundonville be dependent on Fran staying there
18. Anyone have travel plans yet. Or the plans on hold until tickets. I will be heading down sometime Thursday and stay at Holiday Inn midtown regardless of whether I get tickets or not. Hopefully I will. It will be a lot less stressful not having to scalp a ticket for our session. I will try to scalp for the afternoon session or watch on TV.
19. What time is the bookstore open until? Past 5 or do I have to go over at lunch time?
20. Anyone at the breakfast today , please explain better than I could why Murphy's an ass! It was his inappropiate question at breakfast!
21. Someone posted that info yesterday on the TV thread
22. I have also had mine since we went Division 1. Now I am so excited, I will probably add another one next season and I am going to try to make ALL the games next season or at the very least all the conference games. And just in case some of you don't know me, by ALL I mean all home AND away games.
