UAlbany Men Ranked 25th College Insider Top 25 Poll
Dane Pound replied to MRSGDG's topic in Winter Sports-Danes Hoops, Track
I'm glad you mentioned the women's team. They're the team we never get to see. On a month and half road trip with no home games in December. Last home game was Nov. 28th and the next one will be Jan 12th. -
SEFCU Arena reviewed by stadiumjourney.com

Hard to argue with a lot of that review. They were more excited about the neighborhood than I'd expect but pretty fair. -
I liked the stats, the shooting and the quote: “I get all the credit for making the three's, but these guys make great plays and get me open shots,” said Iati of his teammates. Pretty much sums up the way this team has been playing through the first 11 games and why they're so easy to like. One of the most unselfish teams we've had since...I don't know when.

@ South Carolina State (11/20)
Dane Pound replied to MRSGDG's topic in Winter Sports-Danes Hoops, Track
I've been a little surprised by how Guerrier has played so far this year. He's had a couple of big games but has looked a little out of sorts the past couple of games. I thought he was pretty solid last year and my expectations were pretty high for this year. Admittedly Hooley is playing so well it's hard to argue. Still, it's hard to argue with 9-2 and a six game winning streak. Didn't realize this was our best start in D1 history until I read that tonight. People are missing out by not getting out to these games and hopefully they get the message. This is good basketball. Turn off the TV, drive to the Sefcu and yell at the officials with the rest of us! -
Last Year for BracketBusters
Dane Pound replied to sarge965's topic in Winter Sports-Danes Hoops, Track
Seemed like things were coming to an end with Bracketbusters the last couple of years. It wasn't bad to us and brought us maybe our best non-conference home opponent that year we played VCU. Hopefully it was one more treat for us this year. -
I think it's actually that he's played so well through these 10 games that I sometimes forget he's a freshman. Everyone once in a while he'll do something late in a game to remind me he's a freshman but I'm not complaining at all. Really like the way he's playing.

Nice story on Mike Black in the Troy Record and it's his birthday. Didn't realize how high on the career lists he was already. http://www.troyrecord.com/articles/2012/12/09/sports/doc50c3fe1cbfd5c563028236.txt?viewmode=fullstory

This team isn't flashy but they are fun to watch. Iati gave us a show today, made it worth the drive out. He pulled up on a fast break to knock down a three that was just nuts. I think that was Colgate's first home loss this year. It's seemed like in all our wins this year at least one of the "Ley brothers" (Hooley or Rowley) gives us a lift off the bench. It was Hooley today with 11 points, 3 rebounds and 3 assists. He has 24 assists to only 9 turnovers on the year. A pretty good ratio for a guy who is still a freshman.

Wasn't sure it was working for everyone. Glad to hear it is! -
Both Colgate and Albany will gave guards who wear #0 and both guys are from York, PA. Austin Tillotson for Colgate and of course Jacob Iati for Albany are from York. They played against each other in high school and Tillotson gave this awesome quote in a bio: That's right, Kyrie Irving, #1 draft pick - pretty good. Jacob Iati - really good. I'd get that framed if I were him. Looking forward to watching this game tomorrow.

Were what we had for the entire season in Iati, Mike Black and Blake Metcalf's first season at Albany in 2009 (7-24.) They've got 7 wins now in early December.

St. Francis (NY) - Wednesday 7pm
Dane Pound replied to Phoenix's topic in Winter Sports-Danes Hoops, Track
Are the stats right? Did we really shoot 64% from three? Yowsa. I thought Mockford went off tonight 6-12 but Iati and Black were a combined 8-13 from three. I'll take this win considering we weren't exactly razor sharp tonight, especially when dealing with the press. Good to see DJ Evans coming on a little bit with his best game so far. He packed a lot into just 10 minutes of playing time 8 points, a rebound and 2 assists. That stuff after the buzzer was nonsense. Luckily JI wasn't hurt and cooler heads prevailed. -

I was thinking the same thing about our usual post-Siena game hangover. We did do a nice job not having a letdown after the Washington win. -

Excellent, that's always a fun trip. -
I can't find many stats but Levan Shengelia had 18 points in a win over the #17 ranked Juco team in the country. I'll try and overlook the fact that he fouled out and took a three pointer - which he hit. Also, Dallas Ennema has 29 points in his first game of the season.

It's a problem some long-time members have been having. There's something I need to update, I just haven't figured it out yet. -
...Then Tom Wilkin lost my respect

If you read past the headline - which admittedly is tough - I like the fact that Coach Brown took the opportunity to point out how well our athletic program has done as a whole. -
TU Article on SEFCU Attendance
Dane Pound replied to GreatDanes06's topic in Winter Sports-Danes Hoops, Track
This is the key and it's why I'm not worried. Our attendance and our teams are a lot better than they were 10 years ago. In 10 more years both things will be better still and I'm going to enjoy watching both of them grow. That's the fun part about watching an athletic program being built from scratch. You look at where we were, look at where we are and look at where we can go. As Patch pointed out. I'm enjoying this.
